Chapter 178 Let's Get Married

Chapter 178 Let's Get Married

Zhou Yanchuan didn't go home that night, but stayed at the hospital to keep watch. As soon as Wen Jiu returned, Li Yue greeted her with concern: "How is his grandmother?"

Wen Jiu's eyes were filled with sadness: "The doctor said he might only have six months left at most."

After he finished speaking, both of them fell silent.

After a long while, Li Yue finally spoke again: "Spend more time with him and Grandma these days."

“Okay,” Wen Jiu said, then looked at her with some concern: “What about you? Are you feeling unwell today?”

"I vomited for a while around noon, but I feel fine now."

Have you eaten?

"I have no appetite."

"So you haven't eaten," Wen Jiu scolded playfully. "How can you not eat? Now is the time when you need to replenish your nutrition."

Li Yue looked at the person who had hurriedly asked the aunt to cook for her after she said she had no appetite, her eyes filled with tenderness.

She took her hand: "I've been thinking about this all day."

Wen Jiu turned to look at her: "What have you figured out?"

“If this child had come a few years later, I might have been able to give birth to him, but at this point in time, it’s impossible for me to have him. Besides, if he were born and asked me who his father is, I wouldn’t even be able to answer.”

Wen Jiu looked at her with a pained expression: "Have you thought it through?"

"Yes, I called my agent this morning. She'll come pick me up in a few days, and then I'll get an abortion."

"I'll go with you."

Li Yue shook her head: "You stay here and keep Zhou Yanchuan and Grandma company."

"What about Jin Yiyan? Are you sure you don't want to tell him?"

Li Yue felt a pang of pain in her heart and shook her head: "I'm not going to say anything more."

Actually, she messaged him today, asking if he liked children, and he answered very decisively, "No."

All afternoon, Li Yue stared blankly at those three words, her heart aching.

*

On the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, Li Yue went to the hospital and had the surgery done at the city hospital in Qingyang.

As Wen Jiu watched the person being wheeled into the operating room, her heart felt as if it were being weighed down by something, making it hard to breathe.

She kept her eyes glued to the "operation in progress" light the whole time, not even noticing when Zhou Yanchuan arrived beside her.

Accompanying her was Li Yue's agent, Su Qi. When the woman saw the young man beside her, her expression clearly changed.

After enduring the surgery for so long, Wen Jiu burst into tears as she watched the person being wheeled out of the hospital.

The girl who was always so bright and cheerful in my memory was now lying in a hospital bed, her face as pale as paper.

Zhou Yanchuan looked at the person who kept crying and reached out to take her hand.

Wen Jiu turned her head and saw it was him; her tears fell even more uncontrollably.

“I’ve found her a nursing home where someone will take care of her,” he said, raising his hand to wipe her tears. “Don’t cry, we’ll go in and see her in a bit.”

Wen Jiu hummed in agreement. "Where's Grandma? Why did you come?"

"Grandma is feeling a bit better than before, and she has a caregiver with her. I came to see you."

She sniffed: "Are you going home today?"

"Return."

That day, Wen Jiu stayed by the bedside until after midnight, watching as the person fell into a deep sleep, before going home with Zhou Yanchuan.

She felt terrible, but she didn't want to tell him.

He has been feeling very unwell these past few days.

Zhou Yanchuan looked at the woman who hadn't uttered a word the whole way, and as she slept, he reached out and pulled her into his arms: "What are you thinking about?"

Wen Jiu turned around and hugged him: "Have you been tired lately?"

"fine."

As Zhou Yanchuan spoke, he looked at the person so close to him, lowered his head, and kissed her.

Small lips, soft and cool.

The eyes that were looking at him in the dim light trembled slightly.

What are you doing?

"Nothing, I just want to kiss you."

Wen Jiu blinked twice more, then couldn't help but hug him tighter, whispering, "Zhou Yanchuan, I feel a little unwell."

He gently stroked her hair: "Why do you feel unwell?"

Why can't Jin Yiyan like her the way Yueyue likes him?

A muffled sound came from his arms. Zhou Yanchuan thought for a moment and said, "Jin Yiyan also likes it, but people are different, and their preferences are different too."

Wen Jiu listened quietly.

He said softly, "For Jin Yiyan, Li Yue may already be the person he likes the most. It's just that there are other things besides love in his heart before that."

"Money and status?" Wen Jiu countered.

"Perhaps."

Because there are things that come before love, love is always the one that gets abandoned in the name of those things.

"And what about you? Do you have something that came before love?"

"Yes, I have."

Wen Jiu's heart tightened: "What?"

He didn't answer immediately, but instead pulled her closer to him before whispering, "You."

Wen Jiu paused, her expression blank, and her eyes welled up with tears.

"And what about the one in front of me?"

What else could be in front of you?

In the darkness, a tear slid down the corner of the girl's eye.

"Zhou Yanchuan."

"Um."

After that, Zhou Yanchuan waited for a while but still didn't hear anything more. He was just about to ask her, "What's wrong?"

Then I heard a voice say, "Let's get married."

He was stunned for once, his ears went silent for a moment, and his mind became sluggish.

After a while, his consciousness gradually returned. His Adam's apple bobbed, and his voice trembled: "What did you just say?"

Wen Jiu looked up at him in the moonlight and repeated, "Let's get married."

The moment the words left her lips, a cool drop of sweat landed on her collarbone.

*

On the tenth day, the ice and snow melted, and Wen Jiu returned to Beicheng from Qingyang.

On my first day at the procuratorate, I was so busy I couldn't keep up.

Lin Fan ran back and forth carrying the documents.

Looking at the mountain of cases in front of her, Wen Jiu took a deep breath and picked one out.

"Sister Jiu Jiu, this is new—"

Lin Fan came over carrying the documents. Halfway through his sentence, he noticed out of the corner of his eye that the woman was flipping through the documents had a ring on her middle finger, not on her pinky.

The ring setting has no intricate patterns, only a ring of small diamonds set on the inner side of the band, like crushed starlight quietly wrapped around the base of the finger. The main stone is a very pale pink, like a peach blossom just blooming in spring.

Wen Jiu noticed the girl's pause and looked up to ask, "What's wrong?"

Lin Fan pointed to the ring: "Sister Jiu Jiu, do you believe in metaphysics now?"

"What?"

"It's said online that wearing a ring on the middle finger brings good fortune."

Wen Jiu was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and said, "No, I got married a couple of days ago."

"ah?!"
