Chapter 19: I really dare not discuss this.
I wasn't happy when I hung up on you.
"Um?"
"But it's better now."
Wen Jiu didn't know if he could understand what she meant.
But what she wanted to say was, "I was unhappy at first, but then you came."
Thinking of all this, she smiled at him with relief.
Zhou Yanchuan's gaze lingered on her face, staring at her beautiful, curved eyes for a moment, lost in thought.
He looked away: "Idiot."
Wen Jiu wasn't angry after being scolded. She asked again, her voice soft: "Did you take your medicine?"
Seeing the person so persistent about this question, Zhou Yanchuan's eyes changed slightly. He didn't speak, and after a moment of silence, he said, "No."
Why not?
"Because real men never take drugs."
"..."
"A real man never gets sick."
A very small sound.
Zhou Yanchuan looked at the person who started to refute him and knew that he was really not sad anymore. He smiled and said, "You're scolding me."
Wen Jiu pursed her lips and handed over the medicine.
Zhou Yanchuan glanced down at it and teased, "You're willing to give it to me now?"
She didn't answer his question, but simply said, "Don't forget to eat when you get back."
He raised the corners of his lips slightly, not caring that she changed the subject: "Mm."
*
When Wen Jiu returned to the dormitory, everyone else had already come back.
Seeing her enter, Lin Meng asked curiously, "Why were you out for so long?"
"I sat in the chair for a while."
"I see."
Wen Jiu nodded and went to the sink to wash up.
After she finished tidying up and lay down on the bed, she suddenly remembered that her painkillers were still in the bag.
*
Zhou Yanchuan looked at the person who had sent him a message saying "Zhou Yanchuan" and then disappeared again, and tapped the screen a few times.
"Do you believe I'll hit you?"
As Wen Jiu held her phone, looking at the words in the chat box and considering how to say them, a video notification popped up.
My heartbeat, which had been calm, suddenly became very fast.
Wen Jiu's first reaction was to hang up, but then she remembered that she had already hung up once, and her raised fingertips paused.
I hurriedly went to look for my headphones.
The moment I put the phone on and it connected, a voice rang in my ear, "Are you trying to infiltrate?"
"..."
Curtains are not allowed in the dormitories here, and besides, she was already in bed.
In a panic, she covered herself and Zhou Yanchuan, who was on her phone, with the blanket.
Wen Jiu blushed slightly: "No."
A laugh came through the earpiece: "Why are you texting?"
"fine."
"Do you think I'm stupid?"
"Um."
"..."
As soon as Wen Jiu finished speaking, the person on the screen who was washing their face suddenly stopped and looked up.
The corridor was dimly lit, but his eyes were dark and dazzling.
A mischievous glint in his eyes.
Say it again.
Wen Jiu's ears were burning, and just as she was about to speak, a puzzled male voice suddenly came from the other end of the phone.
"Brother, who are you talking to on the phone in the middle of the night?"
A head peeked out from behind Zhou Yanchuan.
Wen Jiu was stunned for a moment, and before she could react, Zhou Yanchuan picked "her" up from the sink platform.
The screen went black.
All I could hear was his voice.
Mind your own business.
"Mind your own business," a suggestive male voice said, deliberately drawing out the last syllable, "which girl have you hooked up with this time?"
As soon as these words were spoken, the phone suddenly became chaotic, with all sorts of voices ringing out at once.
"What sister?"
Where is it?
"We've been talking on the phone for quite a while now, and it's still a video call."
"Oh~"
Several people cheered together.
Wen Jiu suddenly felt uneasy, and just as she was wondering whether to hang up, Zhou Yanchuan's voice interrupted.
"Watch your mouth."
"Isn't this clean enough?" someone joked.
Surrounded by people, Zhou Yanchuan looked lazy, but his tone was unusually serious. He gave a faint "hmm," then seemed to remember something and chuckled.
A voice with a light, mocking laugh rang in Wen Jiu's ears, "You'll scare me to death in a minute."
It felt like feathers brushed against my ear, and it was very itchy.
It was as if a pot had exploded over there.
Someone imitated in an affected tone: "You'll scare me to death in a minute!"
"You're disgusting."
Wen Jiu's face felt hot, and she lowered her raised hand.
After about two minutes, the screen brightness returned to normal.
Zhou Yanchuan's face came into view.
He smiled casually: "Still submerged?"
The sound in the headphones suddenly came closer.
Wen Jiu was stunned for a moment.
He then asked, "Isn't it hot?"
"hot."
"It's not getting hot?"
People outside the blankets were chatting or washing up; it seemed no one was paying attention to her.
Wen Jiu thought for a moment and then lifted the blanket slightly.
Suddenly, a warm light shone from the dark screen, like the moon rising in the night fog.
The girl's face suddenly appeared in the frame.
Zhou Yanchuan's nonchalant expression froze.
Soft strands of hair fell beside her flushed cheeks, with a few small clumps clinging to her neck. Her long eyelashes were still damp, her eyes were moist, and the tip of her nose retained a faint pink tinge from the rising steam.
He didn't realize it, and unconsciously pursed his lips.
Wen Jiu didn't notice his reaction, but after seeing the medicine on the table, she asked softly, "Did you take your medicine?"
"not yet."
Wen Jiu frowned. "What time is it?"
"Eat later."
"You just said you'd eat when we got back."
When did I say that?
Wen Jiu's eyes widened.
Zhou Yanchuan stared at the person who seemed to be startled by him, and silently curled the corners of his lips.
He reached for the bottled water next to him, unscrewed the cap, and casually rummaged through the bag to find a strip of cough medicine.
With a thud in his Adam's apple, the pill was swallowed down with the cool mineral water.
He held the empty medicine blister pack between his fingers, then looked up at the person on the screen: "Are you relieved?"
Suddenly, a sound came through the headphones.
Wen Jiu came to her senses.
She looked up in a flustered manner, and happened to meet Zhou Yanchuan's gaze.
It felt like I'd been burned; my heart was pounding uncontrollably.
Fortunately, the light was dim on her side, so he didn't notice her evasive gaze or her swallowing motion.
Wen Jiu held the hot phone for a while before remembering to reply to him.
"Um."
Zhou Yanchuan was wearing headphones, so the others in the dormitory couldn't hear what was being said on the other end of the phone.
But just listening to him speak makes you want to record it on your phone.
Could this person, who acts like he's teasing a child, really be Zhou Yanchuan?
Who's on the other end of the phone?
Chen Yu was so curious that he couldn't help but mouth something to Su Shun beside him.
Su Shun shrugged.
He was pushed away before he even saw it.
As soon as Zhou Yanchuan hung up the phone, several people rushed over, winking and asking, "Who was that?"
"What."
"It was over the phone."
"My sister."
"How could that be?" came the immediate rebuttal.
"Why not?"
"You were being incredibly reckless just now, okay?"
Zhou Yanchuan laughed and kicked Chen Yu.
Chen Yu, rubbing his backside, leaned closer again: "Seriously, did you talk about it?"
"You're talking to your sister?"
"..."
Chen Yu: "If this is your sister, I'll eat shit!"
Zhou Yanchuan raised an eyebrow and gestured with his chin toward the bathroom door: "Go ahead."
"..."
"Really your sister?" Chen Yu persisted. "No other meaning?"
Zhou Yanchuan paused for a moment as he touched the mineral water bottle: "How could I dare?"
"Is there anything you wouldn't dare to do?" the group asked in unison.
The image of the girl from just now flashed through Zhou Yanchuan's mind. He didn't speak, remained silent for a few seconds, and then stood up from his chair.
It sounded like an answer to several people, but also like talking to oneself.
"I really wouldn't dare."
"Hold."
They couldn't stand him like that; he was driving them crazy with frustration.
Who is it?
