Chapter 28 School Opening
The rain continued all night.
Wen Jiu also had a dream all night.
In my dream, a little girl was standing in the alley in front of her house, and a woman had her back to her.
The two were very close, but no matter how much the little girl called out to the woman, she wouldn't turn around.
As darkness fell, the woman's silhouette grew increasingly blurred, as if she were melting into the darkness.
The little girl ran forward anxiously, but her legs felt like lead, and she watched helplessly as the figure disappeared.
When Wen Jiu woke up from her dream, the whole room was shrouded in a daze.
She stared at the ceiling, unable to tell whether it was day or night. It was quiet outside, without a sound.
She remained curled up in the blankets, her chest aching in waves.
Why would a mother abandon her own child?
After lying in bed for an unknown amount of time, in a daze, Wen Jiu heard the alarm clock ring.
She reached out and pressed the button, and after a while, she sat up in bed.
After changing my clothes and going out, I found the living room surprisingly quiet.
Wen Chengyu would usually lie sprawled on the sofa waiting for her to come out of the room.
It wasn't that I cared about her eating breakfast; I just wanted to corner her and demand money.
Before her grandmother passed away, she gave him a bank card, and somehow he found out about it. So whenever he ran out of money, he would go home.
He'll leave and continue to live a life of debauchery and wasting his days.
Wen Jiu was surprised that he wasn't there, but she didn't think much of it. She just grabbed an umbrella and quickened her pace to leave.
She left her house and hadn't gone far when she saw the person standing under the streetlight.
The boy stood sideways, his slender fingers gripping the black umbrella handle, looking down at his phone.
She was momentarily dazed.
What would her life be like if she hadn't met Zhou Yanchuan?
"Didn't you sleep well last night?" As Wen Jiu approached, she noticed that he had very obvious dark circles under his eyes and his overall demeanor was listless.
He reached out and took her schoolbag, his voice a little hoarse: "Chen Yu called in the middle of the night."
"Has something happened?"
He said he was nervous about going to school today.
Wen Jiu was taken aback; she really hadn't expected this.
Zhou Yanchuan also cursed, "Idiot."

"Where's your school uniform, classmate?"
Just as Chen Yu was about to enter the school gate, he was stopped by a student wearing a red armband standing at the entrance.
He said calmly, "I'm a transfer student."
"So, where's your school uniform?"
Chen Yu looked at the person who repeated himself like a robot after he finished speaking, and several big question marks appeared above his head.
"Are you not understanding or what?" he emphasized, enunciating each word clearly. "I—turn, student,"
On the first day of a transfer student's arrival, where can they find a school uniform?
The boy seemed unfazed, gesturing towards the wall beside him: "Besides you, I've already met ten transfer students this morning."
"..."
Seeing that he couldn't explain it clearly, Chen Yu looked up and saw Zhou Yanchuan passing by. He waved and called out.
"Ogawa."
He couldn't hide his excitement, but to his surprise, Zhou Yanchuan didn't even look at him and walked straight past him with his umbrella.
"?"
Chen Yu was eventually taken back by Wen Jiu.
As he was thinking about how to question Zhou Yanchuan when he got back to class, he saw the girl walking towards the school gate.
"Class monitor."
He waved and shouted.
Wen Jiu saw this and walked over.
As if someone had suddenly come to her aid, Chen Yu stood beside her and said, "Class monitor, you asked him if I was a transfer student. I told him I just transferred here and didn't have a school uniform yet, but he didn't believe me."
Wen Jiu recognized the boy on duty; they had met before during a meeting of the class committees.
After listening to what Chen Yu said, she explained, "He transferred here during military training and probably hasn't had time to register at the school yet."
The boys also had a deep impression of Wen Jiu, whose grades were frighteningly stable, consistently ranking in the top three since the start of the semester.
Hearing her say that, I naturally believed her: "She really did transfer here."
Chen Yu: "Nonsense."
The boy apologized to him and stepped aside to let him pass.
“You’re still the most reliable class monitor,” Chen Yu said, walking beside the girl. “I called out to Zhou Yanchuan just now, but he completely ignored me.”
Wen Jiu smiled, then, remembering something, asked, "Have you gotten your meal card and all that sorted out?"
"not yet."
"Then you can bring your ID card when you come tomorrow."
"Okay," Chen Yu replied, looking around. "Class monitor, where's the school cafeteria?"
Wen Jiu pointed to the road on their right: "Go straight down this road, and turn right at the end."
"How was the food?"
The atmosphere fell silent for a few seconds.
Chen Yu made a gesture of understanding.
*
As soon as Chen Yu arrived at the classroom, he went straight to Zhou Yanchuan's seat.
Wen Jiu glanced at it with a smile, then walked back to her seat.
Lin Meng was chatting with someone in the back row when she saw her coming and immediately called out, "Classmate."
Several girls sat together, chatting about the variety show they watched last night.
The boys all gathered in the back row, and as they chatted, they started playing around.
"Has anyone skipped breakfast?" Ning Yixue asked as soon as she sat down.
Several people turned to look at her.
“I’ve told my dad so many times that I can’t eat two, but he just won’t listen. So, there’s one left.” She held up the rice ball in her hand. “So I thought if any of you haven’t eaten yet, you can use this to tide you over.”
After listening, the girls all shook their heads.
"I've already eaten."
Ning Yixue clicked her tongue. "Then what should we do? Wouldn't it be a waste to just throw it away?"
"Why don't you ask the boys in our class?" a girl suggested.
Ning Yixue waved her hand dismissively: "Except for Zhou Yanchuan, I don't even feed the dogs to other men."
The group laughed at her words.
As they were talking, no one noticed a figure approaching through the doorway.
The person stood quietly for a long time.
Until someone turned around and noticed.
"Holy crap, Lao Guan's here!"
Someone in the classroom shouted something, and a group of people initially turned to look in disbelief, then silently turned back after seeing what was happening, and then pulled a book out of their desk drawer and opened it.
"Accurate, precise, accurate"
Guan Zhi looked at the suddenly quiet classroom, stepped in, and his gaze fell on the boy closest to him.
After looking at it for a few seconds, he asked, "What are you memorizing from this summer homework?"
"Pfft," a soft chuckle came from the seats.
Old Guan glanced around, and his laughter vanished instantly.
He slowly walked up to the podium, speaking in a deliberate and measured manner: "It seems you had a good time during military training and are familiar with everything."
Even if a group of people don't know the teacher's personality, they can tell from their years of experience as students that these words are not a compliment.
So they all lowered their heads even further.
The person on the stage said, "Don't look down, keep talking. I think you were having a good time just now."
