Chapter 33 Grievance

Chapter 33 Grievance

Zhou Yanchuan noticed the sadness in the girl's eyes, but said nothing. He simply picked up his phone and sent a text message.

"I'll have Uncle Chen take you. Tell him what you want to eat on the way."

Qiao Qingxue's emotions were already at a breaking point, and she completely lost control because of those words.

"Can we not break up?" She looked up at the person under the lamp, her usual arrogance gone. "I don't blame you for what happened today."

This time, her reply was a crisp and indifferent three words.

"sorry."

After Qiao Qingxue left, Zhou Yanchuan went up the steps. Before he could open the door, it was suddenly pulled open from the inside, and a gentle female voice rang out.

"Yan Chuan is here."

Zhou Yanchuan frowned subconsciously.

"Why aren't you coming in?" the woman said, then called into the room, "Husband, Yanchuan is here."

She hurried down the steps, appearing warm and considerate.

"Come on, come into the room quickly."

When a hand reached towards his arm, Zhou Yanchuan instinctively waved it away.

Then, an "Ouch!" rang in my ears.

The woman staggered and fell onto the lawn.

Zhou Huaiqian rushed over upon hearing the commotion, and his brows immediately furrowed when he saw Qiao Wan sitting on the ground.

Before he could even step down the stairs, the woman on the ground had already sat up, her voice filled with panic as she explained, "Yan Chuan didn't mean to, I just lost my balance and tripped."

As soon as she finished speaking, Zhou Yanchuan couldn't help but sneer.

Of course it wasn't intentional; I didn't even touch her.

Zhou Huaiqian, who was about to bend down to help the person, stopped and immediately scolded, "What do you mean? Your Aunt Qiao is speaking up for you, and this is your attitude?"

“Then I’ll change my attitude,” he said slowly.

Before anyone could react, Zhou Yanchuan hooked the soccer ball in the corner with one foot, slammed it down on the woman on the ground.

Qiao Wan was so frightened that she covered her head and backed away. She was no longer weak, and her legs no longer hurt. She was so disheveled and flustered that she had no image to speak of.

Zhou Huaiqian was so angry that the veins on his forehead throbbed. He rushed forward and slapped him across the face: "How could I have given birth to such a bastard like you?"

The moment the slap landed on his face with a gust of wind, Zhou Yanchuan felt a "buzz" in his ears, followed by a burning pain.

The air in the courtyard suddenly seemed to freeze.

Hearing the commotion outside, everyone inside came out. But they never expected to witness such a scene.

"Why did you hit him?" Qiu Yilian saw her grandson being hit and, ignoring the help of the servants beside her, hurriedly ran down the steps.

Seeing how the old woman was protecting the child, Zhou Huaiqian said, "Mom, you don't know what he did."

"What did he do? What could he have done? He finally came back, and you still hit him!" The old man retorted with a series of questions, leaving Zhou Huaiqian speechless.

"Does it hurt?" Qiu Yilian raised her hand to touch the swollen corner of her mouth.

Zhou Yanchuan's fierce aura subsided somewhat after the old man appeared: "It's nothing."

"Why aren't you going in now that you're here?" Zhou Qiyong, who had been silent at the door, suddenly spoke up.

Zhou Yanchuan looked at him, and when he saw the little boy standing next to him, his pupils seemed to be pierced by something sharp. He then spoke in a casual tone: "I suddenly remembered that I have something else to do."

"What's the matter? You're all back, let's eat first," the person beside him said, taking his arm and leading him into the house.

Zhou Yanchuan smiled and declined, "No, I'll come see you later."

Before Qiu Yilian could say anything more, Zhou Huaiqian, who was standing to the side, suddenly spoke up, his tone filled with barely suppressed anger: "Let him go. It's best if he goes. If he has the guts, he should never come back."

The man's gritted teeth reached Zhou Yanchuan's ears, and he paused in his turn before walking out of the house without looking back.

Watching that figure walk alone into the night, Qiu Yilian felt a pang of heartache: "What are you doing? This is his home! He finally came back, and you've driven him away again."

*

As Zhou Yanchuan emerged from the old house, he looked around at the empty surroundings. The image of the small figure cowering behind the old man flashed through his mind. He looked down and laughed self-deprecatingly.

He used to like standing behind his grandfather.

As they approached the alley leading to the door, Wen Jiu turned to the person beside her and said, "My house is just ahead. You can drop me off here."

Su Shun glanced ahead and saw how dark the alley was, so he immediately refused: "It's not like I'll make a difference. I'll take you to your doorstep so that I can explain to Brother Chuan when he asks."

He said this and entered the alley, and Wen Jiu had no choice but to follow.

He had only taken a couple of steps when he suddenly stopped.

Wen Jiu also stopped, and she was about to ask, "What's wrong?"

Then he heard the person in front of him shout, "Brother, what are you doing here?"

Wen Jiu was stunned and subconsciously looked up.

Under the dim yellow light, Zhou Yanchuan stood there, head down, clothes loose and baggy, his shadow stretched long by the streetlight.

I don't know what I'm thinking, but I always feel a sense of loneliness and dejection emanating from my whole body.

She gripped the straps of her backpack tightly.

Where are they?

It was Zhou Yanchuan's voice.

Su Shun was stunned for a moment, and when he realized that he was asking about Wen Jiu, he immediately stepped aside.

His gaze darted back and forth between the two of them, and for some reason, he felt that the atmosphere was strange.

Just then, a voice suddenly rang out from the alley: "You can leave now."

"Huh?" Su Shun was taken aback, and when he realized that the person was talking about him, he quickly said, "Okay."

He turned to leave, but didn't forget to say goodbye to the girl beside him: "Goodbye, class monitor."

"goodbye."

As the white hem of her dress disappeared around the corner, the alley fell completely silent.

Wen Jiu clenched her fists, looking at the person watching her from not far away. She could clearly sense that he was in a very low mood and his condition was very wrong.

Words of concern almost slipped out, and the scene I witnessed at the stairwell at noon today came to mind.

My throat suddenly tightened, and the words that were about to come out of my mouth were suddenly choked up.

Wen Jiu stood there for several seconds before taking a step forward.

As she approached Zhou Yanchuan, she hesitated for a moment before continuing forward.

He didn't call out to her or stop her; he just watched her walk away and then followed her.

Two shadows converged underground.

When she got home, Wen Jiu took out her key from her pocket to open the door.

With a "click," she pressed the doorknob, and the door was opened a crack. However, Wen Jiu looked at the shadow cast on the wall and hesitated to open the door completely.

An unknown amount of time passed.

"I'm going home."

A soft sound rang out in the hallway.

Zhou Yanchuan responded casually, "Mm."

Wen Jiu lowered her eyelashes, tightened her grip on the doorknob slightly, and pressed it down two seconds later.

The door was pulled open completely, allowing the light from the corridor to stream into the room, only to be shut out again.
