Chapter 3 Us That Year
"Let us embark together on a passionate and ardent love, like a wildfire spreading in spring."
——Wen Jiu/Zhou Yanchuan
*
September, Qingyang.
The sweltering heat of summer has not yet dissipated, and the air is still filled with waves of heat.
A group of people crowded into the corridor as if they weren't bothered by the heat.
"Look!"
"What?"
"Zhou Yanchuan."
"So handsome!"
Several first-year high school girls were peering longingly out the window at the boy in the back corner of the classroom.
"It wasn't for nothing that I put in so much effort to get into the top high school."
"He's so handsome."
"He's different from the average handsome guy."
Upon hearing this, a high school freshman boy who was passing by peeked into the classroom.
Upon closer inspection, a look of confusion appeared on his face: "How can you tell he's handsome? And unlike other handsome guys?"
He couldn't help but blurt out, "Isn't he sleeping?"
The girl closest to him turned her head and said without hesitation, "What do you know? Handsome guys are handsome even when they're sleeping."
"..."
Wen Jiu lowered her head to write her problem, while the sounds of discussion came from all directions.
The person mentioned most often was the one in the back row.
"I really didn't expect to be in the same class as Zhou Yanchuan. When I saw his name on the class assignment list, I was completely stunned."
"Me too, I thought I was seeing things."
"I never thought I'd ever be in the same class as him in this lifetime."
...
The girls in the class were excited but discussing it quietly, occasionally glancing back at each other.
Wen Jiu, who was writing with her head down, seemed a little too quiet.
A girl noticed her and, remembering something, asked, "Wen Jiu, weren't you in Class 9 before?"
Suddenly called, Wen Jiu stopped writing, paused for two seconds, and nodded: "Mm."
"Then you're in the same class as Zhou Yanchuan?" Lin Meng, standing to the side, became visibly excited and leaned closer to her. "So? Have you had any contact with him before?"
“We haven’t had much contact,” Wen Jiu lowered her eyes and continued writing her questions, adding at the end, “We’re not familiar with each other.”
"I see," Lin Meng said, her tone filled with regret. She wanted to ask more, but seeing the girl doing her homework, she didn't say anything more.
This was the first time she had ever met someone who was so quiet.
Moreover, despite having a very well-behaved appearance, she seems unapproachable.
She shook her head and ran off to continue chatting with her other classmates.
After Lin Meng left, Wen Jiu put down her pen.
She looked down at the half-empty exam paper and sighed softly.
*
"Brother, you're awake?" Su Shun went over to the boy who had been lying on the table and raised his head.
Zhou Yanchuan didn't reply, but lazily yawned and squinted at the figure in the middle.
In the midst of chatting or joking around, she was writing something with her head down. The sunlight cast a thin layer of light around her, making her already fair skin even more radiant.
I cut my hair at home before school started, and my waist-length hair was cut into shoulder-length hair.
It was quiet and peaceful, and there was no one around.
His gaze was calm, and he only casually looked away when someone next to him asked, "What are you looking at?"
Su Shun followed his gaze and was about to ask if he knew the slender figure when he saw her.
But then he thought about it again, and realized that he had noticed the girl when he first entered the classroom.
There was no other reason; she was simply good-looking.
Shoulder-length short hair, a small face, a delicate nose and mouth, and a pair of clean and bright eyes, like two black gems.
Even in a noisy environment, she exudes a tranquil and gentle aura.
Such a well-behaved girl, Su Shun assumed that she wouldn't have any contact with someone like Zhou Yanchuan.
After all, it's impossible to imagine these two people together.
Even so, Su Shun still cheekily leaned close to his ear and asked, "Interested?"
Zhou Yanchuan lifted his eyelids to look at him, the corners of his lips slightly upturned, "Mm."
"Huh?" Su Shun's eyes widened suddenly, thinking she had misheard, her voice trembling slightly, "Really?"
"Fake."
"..."
It was like being doused with a bucket of water; the person who was excited just a second ago immediately wilted.
"I knew it, you definitely wouldn't like this type."
Seeing the man's confident expression, Zhou Yanchuan chuckled: "Which one should I like?"
"Like Qiao Qingxue, a mature and goddess-like woman."
“A mature and elegant goddess,” he repeated softly.
I suddenly remembered a little figure from my childhood standing in front of the TV, pointing at a sexy woman on screen, his eyes shining, saying, "I want to grow up to look like that."
Zhou Yanchuan curved his lips slightly but didn't say anything more.

In the evening, Wen Jiu came out of the classroom with a water cup and bumped into two older girls.
When their eyes met, they politely called out to her, "Classmate."
Seeing her stop, the girl on her left asked, "Is Zhou Yanchuan from your class here?"
Wen Jiu's eyes widened slightly, surprised that they would ask about this name.
She remembered that when she came out, the seat in the back row was empty.
So he shook his head.
"He's not here," the girl said, her disappointment barely concealed.
The person next to her comforted her, "Why don't we wait a little while? They should be back soon."
"That's all we can do," the girl sighed. "It's so hard to see him."
Wen Jiu lowered his eyes; this was already the umpteenth person to come looking for him today.
She quietly left the two of them, holding her water glass.
The water room was at the end of the corridor. As I passed the corner of the stairs, I heard a commotion.
Wen Jiu subconsciously looked up.
Several boys in school uniforms came into view.
They are all very tall, with an average height of over 180 cm.
They were relaxed and chatting and laughing.
Her gaze didn't linger; just as it was about to sweep across the crowd, a lazy voice rang out from within: "Not tonight."
"Why?" someone immediately asked.
Wen Jiu was the one who saw the person walking behind at this time.
Despite the dim light in the hallway, his facial features were still clearly defined.
The night wind tousled his hair, giving him an air of nonchalance.
Yet her clean and unrestrained temperament makes it easy for people to look away.
Hearing the questions raised by his friends, he smiled calmly and said, "I'm giving it away."
"Give it away?"
Who is it?
A series of questions followed.
One person joked, "No wonder he's the most handsome guy in our school; he got a date on the very first day of school."
Zhou Yanchuan laughed and kicked the man: "Don't talk nonsense, she's my sister."
"Brother, you have a sister?" Su Shun asked in surprise.
"Um."
Seeing the person who casually agreed, Wen Jiu tightened her grip on the cup.
A fleeting hint of bitterness crossed his eyes.
"Hey, Chen Yuan, that's not the kind of place you said would look good..."
The boy was speaking when someone nearby quickly covered his mouth.
"Keep your voice down, don't let her hear you."
"What is that?" The commotion caused a group of boys at the stairwell to look up and shout.
Caught off guard by so many pairs of eyes, Wen Jiu stood there stunned.
Zhou Yanchuan raised his eyebrows slightly when he saw the person standing in the corridor.
Just then, a voice rang in my ears: "Chen Yuan complimented the girl's looks and asked for her contact information."
"Oh~"
Upon hearing this, the group immediately started making a fuss.
The boy named Chen Yuan blushed and hurriedly stopped him.
"Stop talking."
He covered the man's mouth, and the other one started yelling.
The situation briefly spiraled out of control.
Before Wen Jiu could look away, she met a pair of dark, deep eyes in the center of the crowd.
Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and her heartbeat quickened a few beats.
Seeing the person hastily avert their gaze and try their best to distance themselves, Zhou Yanchuan's lips twitched almost imperceptibly.
"Alright," he said calmly.
The group of people who were noisy just a second ago immediately became obedient and quiet.
Chen Yuan gave him a grateful look.
He remained expressionless, casually asking, "Do you think it looks good?"
