Chapter 64 Part-time Job
When the cold weather arrived as scheduled, Wen Jiu went to the milk tea shop that was hiring as soon as she got out of school.
She walked up the steps and pushed open the glass door.
The sales clerk was a woman who looked to be in her late twenties. As soon as she saw her come in, she asked gently, "What would you like to drink?"
Wen Jiu shook her head and said softly, "I wanted to ask if you're hiring here?"
"Huh?" The woman was clearly taken aback for a moment, perhaps because she saw how young she was, and immediately asked, "Little sister, how old are you?"
Wen Jiu knew that many shops didn't accept minors, and the word "18" was on the tip of her tongue, but in the end she still told the truth.
16.
"Too small."
Wen Jiu knew this meant rejection, and her expression didn't change much, only a fleeting look of disappointment in her eyes.
"Thanks."
She thanked him softly and turned to walk towards the door.
An Ruo's gaze fell on the girl's slender back. She pursed her lips and spoke just as the girl was about to open the door, "We have a job where you wear a mascot costume. Would you like to try it?"
Wen Jiu stopped in her tracks.
*
After following the woman into the inner room, Wen Jiu looked at the yellow bear mascot costume on the shelf and asked, "This one?"
“Yes,” An Ruo reached out to take it, but almost lost her balance because of its weight. Luckily, Wen Jiu supported her from below, and she was able to take it down safely.
An Ruo said softly, "You can try it first, because it's a bit heavy, see if you can handle it."
She usually wears this mascot costume for boys, but she felt a little guilty seeing the girl leave.
To be looking for a job at such a young age, something must have happened to you.
I originally wanted her to make drinks at the front desk, but her face was too small, and I was afraid that someone with ulterior motives would report her for using a minor.
I suddenly remembered there was a mascot costume in the storeroom; if I covered my face, there would be far fewer problems.
Wen Jiu lifted the hood with her hand; it was much heavier than she had imagined, but it wasn't impossible to do.
She nodded: "Sure."
"Have you thought it through?" An Ruo asked again.
"Um."
"Okay, then you can come to work tomorrow morning. As for the salary," she originally offered 150 a day, but seeing the girl's obedient appearance, she changed her mind at the last minute, "200 a day, is it okay if you work for two weeks?"
"OK."
*
After leaving the milk tea shop, Wen Jiu felt much more relaxed. 200 a day, 14 days would give her 2800, which would be enough to last her a while longer.
However, as she walked down the steps, she looked down at the text message Zhou Yanchuan had sent half an hour earlier, unsure of how to respond to him.
If he had known, he would have transferred the money directly and stopped her from doing it.
Wen Jiu thought for a moment and then sent a text message to Lin Meng.
"Hey deskmate, can I talk to you about something?"
The girl replied instantly: "Of course, go ahead."
When Lin Meng saw the new message from the girl, all she could see were the three words "Zhou Yanchuan".
Dear Desk Mate: "If Zhou Yanchuan asks you about me, can you just tell him that I went out to play with you?"
She jumped out of bed excitedly and made a phone call immediately.
"Hey deskmate, what's going on?"
Wen Jiu heard the girl's excited voice on the other end of the phone, explained it to her softly, and then asked, "Is it okay?"
"sure."
However, Lin Meng couldn't help but worry: was she short of money for a part-time job at this time?
She thought that if she needed money, she could ask her parents for some.
But at their age, saving face is of paramount importance.
Lin wanted to say something but was afraid of hurting the girl's pride, so in the end she only said, "If you ever run into any problems, you must tell me. I'll definitely help if I can."
Wen Jiu knew the girl's feelings and felt a warmth in her heart: "Okay."
After hanging up the phone, Wen Jiu replied to Zhou Yanchuan's message.
I plan to go out and play with my deskmate.
zyc: "How long?"
Wen Jiu thought for a moment and sent him a week's worth of information.
Anruo told her that it would be a week before and a week after the New Year, and that their holiday started late, with only ten days left until the New Year, so she couldn't go out to play and wouldn't be with him for the New Year.
After Wen Jiu sent the message, there was no immediate reply. After a while, the other side sent an "OK".
She breathed a sigh of relief; she had finally resolved everything.
*
Before dawn the next day, Wen Jiu got out of bed.
After washing up, she quietly went out the door.
When Wen Jiu arrived at the milk tea shop, the owner hadn't come yet. She sat on the bench in front of the shop, took out a small notebook from her pocket, and continued to look at the vocabulary words.
An Ruo parked her car and was stunned when she saw the girl sitting at the door. She looked down at her phone.
6:30
She walked over and asked, "Why are you here so early?"
Wen Jiu was focused on memorizing when a sudden sound startled her, causing her to tremble and drop the vocabulary book she was holding to the ground.
Seeing this, An Ruo immediately bent down to pick it up. When she saw the contents of the book, a look of surprise flashed in her eyes. She handed it over and asked, "Are you still in school?"
"Um."
She initially thought the little girl had dropped out of school.
"So why did you suddenly decide to take on a part-time job?"
Wen Jiu took the money from her and said softly, "Thank you," her eyes clear and honest. "I need money."
An Ruo was taken aback, then laughed.
She likes this girl.
"I saw yesterday that the name you left was Wen Jiu. Can I call you Xiao Jiu from now on?"
"Um."
Looking at the well-behaved girl, An Ruo said, "No need to be so polite, and you don't need to call me 'shop manager.' Just call me Sister Ruo Ruo."
Wen Jiu nodded obediently, "Okay."
"Have you had breakfast?" An Ruo asked as she took out her keys to open the door.
"have eaten."
Wen Jiu saw the door open and followed the person inside. "Sister Ruoruo, when should I wear that dress?"
"Don't rush to put it on. Wait until around 10 o'clock when people start coming in before you put it on," An Ruo said, gesturing for the person to sit down in a chair. "Rest for a while and play on your phone."
Wen Jiu was surprised by the woman's good temper, and the nervousness she felt in the new environment disappeared without her realizing it.
*
Every time An Ruo looked up, the little girl sitting in the corner was reading a book.
I couldn't help but think to myself, "What a sweet little sister."
People came to the store around 7 o'clock.
Hearing the wind chimes on the door ring, Wen Jiu looked up.
