Chapter 66 Grandeur

Chapter 66 Grandeur

She had long since learned to close herself off and no longer easily trust anyone.

For several days in a row, the other person accompanied her to school, stood at the classroom door waiting for her, and carried her favorite glutinous rice balls for breakfast.

When school ended, the Zhou family's driver never abandoned her again.

Instead, he patiently waited until her shift ended before taking her home.

Her heart softened little by little, and she slowly began to feel that perhaps she genuinely wanted to reconcile.

She even started to fantasize that if they could become friends, would campus life be less unbearable?

On one occasion, as an outstanding student representative, she was to speak at a school-wide ceremony, standing on the podium and reading aloud her thoughts and feelings.

Just minutes before she was about to go on stage, a classmate she was on good terms with rushed over to tell her.

Zhou Yunhan fell off her bike outside of school and bled a lot. Someone is waiting for her at the school gate and wants her to go see her quickly.

She didn't care that the ceremony was about to begin, and she didn't even take her script; she ran all the way to the school gate.

The wind tousled her hair, and all she could think about was getting there quickly to see how Zhou Yunhan was doing.

In the dim light, several people sat in a circle, their faces bearing mocking smiles.

Immediately afterwards, her torn backpack was thrown on the ground.

When she finally managed to extricate herself from that chaos, there was still a fine layer of cold sweat on her forehead.

From then on, she began to learn to hide her emotions more deeply.

Song Zhiwei carefully got up from beside him.

With her head down, she rushed into her room, closed the door behind her, and leaned against it to catch her breath.

She lay in bed for a long time until the panic in her chest gradually subsided.

She slowly turned over, lifted the blanket, and sat up, her face still somewhat pale.

Her slightly haggard face was reflected in the mirror, with faint dark circles under her eyes.

She took a deep breath, forced herself to cheer up, got up, opened the wardrobe, and rummaged through the clothes suitable for going out.

When I came out again, the living room was empty.

There was only one half-empty water glass left on the coffee table, with tiny water droplets clinging to its sides.

"They've left?"

She looked at the tightly closed door, quietly breathed a sigh of relief, and her shoulders unconsciously relaxed.

But before he could exhale completely, a sense of indescribable disappointment welled up in his heart.

At 5 p.m. sharp, the setting sun shone into the room through the gaps in the curtains.

She picked up her phone, her fingertips hovered over the screen for a moment, and then sent a message to Sheng Tingzhou.

What do you want to eat tonight? I'll buy some on my way back.

After sending it, I stared at the screen and waited, my heart involuntarily racing a few beats faster.

The other party only replied with three words: "No need."

Song Zhiwei pinched the tip of her nose, her brows furrowing slightly. She felt that the young master's tone was a bit cold and more distant than usual.

But since he said he didn't need it, she felt a little relieved.

Just as he was thinking about whether to ask Jiang Mengxi to go out for a walk to change his mood, his phone suddenly rang.

Song Zhiwei neither refused nor asked why.

She knew that some things didn't need to be asked, and shouldn't be asked.

Half an hour later, a low-key yet luxurious black sedan came to a steady stop downstairs.

Song Zhiwei had already changed her clothes; a simple, off-white dress accentuated her slender figure.

The car door opened from the inside, revealing Zhou Yuze's handsome and gentle profile.

He was wearing a custom-made dark gray suit, and his tie was perfectly tied.

"Come on up."

He spoke softly, his gaze gently falling on her face.

"Um."

She sat down gently, carefully straightened her skirt, and then fastened her seatbelt.

As Zhou Yuce started the car, the engine humming softly, he glanced at her sideways.

"Let me take you to buy a dress first."

Song Zhiwei nodded, gazing at the fleeting street scene outside the window, and softly replied, "Mm."

The car slowly came to a stop in front of a high-end shopping mall.

This shopping mall is located in the most bustling part of the city center.

The glass curtain wall reflects the afterglow of the setting sun, creating an impressive sight.

The two entered a luxury dress shop, where the lighting was soft and the carpet was thick.

A faint aroma of fragrance wafts in the air.

The crystal chandelier refracted a scattering of light.

As soon as the waiter saw Zhou Yuze, he immediately stepped forward with a respectful smile on his face.

"Young Master Zhou, you've arrived."

Zhou Yuze nodded slightly, his expression calm.

"Bring out a few of the new dresses and show them to this young lady."

"OK."

The waiter responded softly, a professional smile on his face, and quickly turned and left.

She walked briskly through the spacious and brightly lit fitting area.

She returned shortly afterward, carrying more than a dozen meticulously ironed dresses.

Each item was carefully wrapped in a transparent dust cover and hung on a mobile display rack, arranged in order.

Song Zhiwei stood in front of the mirror, her gaze slowly sweeping over the gorgeous dresses.

Her expression was calm, but there was a hint of tension that was not easily detected.

A moment later, she reached out and gently moved several dresses around, finally pulling out a black strapless long dress.

She then casually took down the light gray cashmere shawl that was draped to the side.

The fabric was soft and the color was simple, which perfectly balanced the cold and glamorous feel of the black dress. Zhou Yunhan walked closer with her hands on her hips and a look of disdain on her face. She sneered and said, "You really have a thick skin. You've got connections with both sides? You're going on blind dates while you're thinking about climbing the social ladder? I really overestimated you before."

Jiang Yuexin, who was behind her, also tilted her head back, her nostrils practically pointing to the sky, and spoke in a sarcastic tone.

"Yunhan, your younger sister is really taking you less and less seriously these days. Last time at the party, she even mocked me. Outsiders would have thought she was the Zhou family's biological daughter. She really acted like a convincing actress."

Song Zhiwei slowly pulled out a tissue and dried herself one finger at a time.

After she finished wiping, she threw the tissue into the trash can, slowly turned around, and looked at the two of them calmly.

"You need something? If not, I'm leaving."

She didn't want to cause a scene in a place with lots of people and gossip.

After all, the surrounding area was full of guests and company colleagues.

Any casual remark can be embellished and spread, eventually becoming uncontrollable rumors.

If things really come to a head, no one will speak up for her.

Even if she is innocent, everyone will just stand on the sidelines and watch the spectacle.

No one wanted to offend the Zhou family's daughter to stand up for an insignificant girl.

Seeing that she was about to leave, Zhou Yunhan stepped in front of her and blocked her way, saying sarcastically, "What? Did I touch a sore spot? Trying to slip away?"

She crossed her arms, raised her chin slightly, and looked at him with a mocking gaze.

Song Zhiwei moved to the side, creating some distance, her tone indifferent.

"Say whatever you want, I have to go back, please let me through."

Jiang Yuexin immediately came over.

"Trying to seduce Young Master Sheng again, huh? You went to his company on purpose, and you've been hanging around him all day. Are you trying to make people think there's something going on between you two?"

Upon hearing this, Zhou Yunhan's anger flared even more.

"Why don't you look in the mirror? Who do you think you are, to even think about making a move on Young Master Sheng?"

She took a sudden step closer, her tone aggressive, her eyes full of contempt.

When Song Zhiwei was pushed to the limit, she clenched her fists tightly, her nails almost digging into her flesh, and her voice became deep.

"Who I get close to is none of your business. If you're really interested, go for it yourself."
