Chapter 37 Death of Society

Chapter 37 Death of Society

I never expected him to make such a request.

"What, you don't want to?"

The man slightly raised his chin, his eyes flashing with a hint of scrutiny and amusement.

"no."

She quickly shook her head.

This request isn't actually difficult; she usually cooks for herself on weekends anyway.

Adding one more person to the meal is just a matter of adding one more bowl of rice and washing one more pair of chopsticks.

It's really not a big deal.

Seeing that she agreed, Sheng Tingzhou's lips curled up slightly.

He withdrew his gaze, took a half-step back, and created some distance between himself and the enemy.

"The doctor just examined you and said there's nothing seriously wrong with you, but you just need to rest for a few days. I'll grant you two days off."

"Thank you, Mr. Sheng."

Song Zhiwei immediately switched to work mode.

He straightened his back, placed his hands on his knees, and his tone became serious.

"I will have someone handle Chen Qimin's matter."

His voice turned cold as he said this.

Song Zhiwei thought it was just a common refund dispute, at most a customer complaint.

It shouldn't escalate to other levels.

Without much thought, she nodded slightly to indicate that she understood.

Once she felt her strength returning, she slowly sat up, supporting herself on the edge of the sofa.

I'm getting ready to go home.

But just as she was about to take a step, Sheng Tingzhou reached out and stopped her.

Where to?

"I'm going home."

She explained in a low voice.

We can't just stay here all day and then stay overnight.

Sheng Tingzhou's tone was resolute, leaving no room for negotiation.

"No. You have to stay here tonight, so I can call the doctor immediately if anything unexpected happens."

"But didn't the doctor say everything was fine?"

Song Zhiwei looked at him, puzzled.

Sheng Tingzhou sneered, a mocking smile curving his lips.

"You're not made of iron. You were freezing like that in minus ten degrees Celsius, soaked to the bone, and your face turned blue. Who can guarantee you won't get a fever in the middle of the night?"

Song Zhiwei opened her mouth, wanting to argue a few more words.

Before he could finish speaking, Sheng Tingzhou casually added a sentence.

"If you feel it's inconvenient for you to stay here, I'll call him right now and ask him to come and take care of you."

"Don't!"

She quickly raised her hand and waved it forcefully.

She didn't want to bother Zhou Yuze anymore.

The man who would brave the torrential rain to rush in and find her without hesitation, carrying her on his back to the hospital, is no longer there.

Time, like a cold river, silently carried them to different banks.

Sheng Tingzhou chuckled.

His voice was low and carried a hint of nonchalance.

"Okay, then you sleep on the bed, and I'll sleep on the sofa."

"If you feel unwell tonight, remember to call me."

Song Zhiwei was taken aback.

I wanted to say something, but then I stopped myself.

She remained silent for a few seconds, but ultimately did not refuse.

Sheng Tingzhou pinched the corner of the blanket and slowly pulled it back for her.

"Go to sleep."

She slowly lay down and closed her eyes.

Exhaustion surged through my limbs and bones like a tide.

Just then, the phone on the bedside table suddenly vibrated.

The ringing was particularly jarring in the quiet room.

A hand reached out faster than her and accurately picked up the phone.

The moment the screen lit up, the cold white light shone on her face.

She still managed to make out those two words:

Sheng Tingzhou held his phone, leaned against the bed, and lazily looked at her.

His eyes held a hint of inquiry.

Should I answer?

Song Zhiwei lowered her head, her eyes gradually dimming.

The bell was still ringing.

One sound after another, persistently echoing in the room.

She pursed her lips and finally spoke softly.

"Take it."

Sheng Tingzhou didn't say much, but swiped his finger to answer the call.

He then turned on speakerphone and held the phone to her mouth.

Zhou Yuze's gentle voice came quickly from the other end of the phone.

"Zhiwei? Why are you calling so late? Is something wrong?"

Song Zhiwei's nose suddenly stung, and her vision blurred for a moment.

She tugged at the corners of her mouth and smiled.

"It's okay, I dialed the wrong number."

"Are you really alright?"

Zhou Yuze's voice clearly betrayed a hint of doubt.

"Your voice doesn't sound right."

"It's fine."

She tried to make her tone sound more relaxed.

"It's too late, I have to go to work tomorrow, I'll hang up now."

As soon as she finished speaking, she reached out and firmly pressed the hang-up button.

Sheng Tingzhou watched her movements and a slight smile appeared on his lips.

"I thought you were going to whine to him and cry a little."

Song Zhiwei wrinkled her nose, her eyes showing a hint of disdain, yet also a touch of stubbornness.

"I'm not a three-year-old child."

"So you're an eighteen-year-old adult?"

He raised an eyebrow, his tone teasing.

Song Zhiwei turned her head away from him and pulled the blanket up.

Silently recite in your mind:

I can't be bothered with you.

My head is still a little numb.

After being chilled for too long, my temples started to throb and twitch intermittently.

My eyelids were so heavy I could barely lift them, as if they had been sewn shut.

Sheng Tingzhou placed his phone on the bedside table.

I moved very gently, afraid of waking her.

He leaned down and carefully tugged at the corner of the blanket with his fingertips, making sure her shoulders were covered more tightly.

He then tucked in the corners of the blanket to make sure there was no draft.

After doing all this, he straightened up, turned around, and walked back to the living room.

I lay down on the sofa.

The sofa wasn't wide, and his tall frame could only barely curl up.

But after closing his eyes for a short while, he opened them again and looked in the direction of the bedroom.

She sighed softly.

...

The next day, Song Zhiwei opened her eyes, her vision still a little blurry.

She blinked, adjusting to the light in the room.

My gaze swept across the area, and I suddenly froze.

Sheng Tingzhou was still inside.

She sat up instinctively and reached under her pillow to retrieve her phone.

The screen lit up, and the time showed it was almost eleven o'clock.

She frowned slightly and asked in the direction of the living room with a hint of hesitation.

"You didn't go to the company today?"

Sheng Tingzhou was sitting on the sofa with a laptop on his lap.

Hearing her voice, he didn't even look up, only glancing at her with his eyes turned to the side.

A slight smile played on his lips.

"I was planning to leave this morning, but someone kept calling my name and begging me not to go, saying things like 'I'm so cold and scared,' and they were holding my wrist so tightly that I couldn't pull them away."

Song Zhiwei felt a chill run through her body, and her ears instantly turned bright red.

His entire face looked like it was being roasted over a fire, burning hot.

She stared at him blankly, her lips slightly parted.

It seemed like he wanted to explain, but couldn't find the words.

"I...I really said that?"

Sheng Tingzhou raised an eyebrow, slowly took out his phone from his pocket, and waved it at her.

There was a hint of mischief in his eyes.

"Would you like me to play the recording for you? I guarantee it's exactly the same, not a single word is missing."

Song Zhiwei immediately waved her hands frantically, her voice becoming anxious.

"No, no, no! It's not necessary, really not necessary!"

Her mind was in turmoil.

God knows what other ridiculous things I said last night.

What if there's something even more outrageous...

She didn't want to send herself to a social death scene so early in the morning.

Seeing her flustered state, Sheng Tingzhou finally couldn't help but laugh out loud.

He put away his phone, got up, walked over, and reached out to ruffle her hair.

Song Zhiwei froze, her heart skipping a beat.

"No fever, so you should be fine."

He withdrew his hand, his tone calm.
