Chapter 63 The Way of Hospitality
Mo Huaizhi's eyes widened instantly, and his mouth opened so wide it could fit an egg.
He first looked at Song Zhiwei, then turned back to look at Sheng Tingzhou, who was still standing in the entrance hall with a calm expression. He raised his finger and pointed at Sheng Tingzhou with a pained expression.
"That's outrageous! That's absolutely outrageous!"
His voice rose, and he became agitated.
"You're usually such a cold and aloof person, how come you're doing this? Secretly being with Zhiwei behind all of our backs?"
"No wonder Yu Ce called me yesterday saying he was going to beat you up. I want to punch you right now! Don't you have any brotherhood? Don't you have any moral bottom line?"
Sheng Tingzhou remained expressionless, offering neither explanation nor rebuttal, merely glancing at him indifferently.
Then he turned around, walked back to the dining table, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
He casually picked up his chopsticks, as if he hadn't taken his words to heart at all.
Mo Huaizhi, however, had no intention of giving up and continued to stand there and chatter on.
"Look at you, how could you even think about making a move on Zhiwei? We've watched her grow up together. When she was little, she used to run around behind us with pigtails, calling us 'brother.' And now, you're using your power and influence to lure her into living with you? You made your move as soon as she got back to the country? That's just too despicable!"
He became more and more excited as he spoke, and even started to make connections.
"If the Zhou family finds out about this, won't Aunt Zhou come knocking on our door with a stick? Their precious daughter studied abroad for years, and then you tricked her into living with you? Who can stand that?"
Song Zhiwei blushed deeply, and even the tips of her ears turned pink.
She quickly put down her phone and explained in a low voice.
“Brother Huaizhi, you’ve misunderstood…it’s not what you think.”
Mo Huaizhi immediately pointed his index finger at her, his expression extremely serious.
“Zhiwei, I know you’re young and naive, so I don’t blame you. You’ve been deceived and used. It’s all Tingzhou’s doing, he’s utterly despicable! I should have been wary of him. He seems cold on the surface, but he does all sorts of things behind people’s backs!”
Song Zhiwei: "..."
She pursed her lips and took a deep breath.
“You’ve got it wrong. Mr. Sheng and I are not like that at all. This is the house I live in, this apartment I rent, and I have the contract. Mr. Sheng’s family lives next door. We’re just neighbors and bump into each other occasionally. There’s nothing between us, let alone cohabitation.”
She didn't want to be the subject of gossip or bear unwarranted stigma.
People outside might be afraid to offend Sheng Tingzhou because they fear his status.
But what will they say about her behind her back?
They still called her shameless and scheming.
Once these rumors spread...
It wasn't just her reputation that was destroyed, but also her life and dignity.
Therefore, she had to make things clear and not let the misunderstanding continue.
Even if you're facing someone you know.
"Um?"
Mo Huaizhi then realized that he had knocked on the door on the right.
He looked down at the shoes beside his feet, then looked up at the closed door in front of him, and was suddenly startled.
This is not the room where Song Zhiwei lives.
"Even if you don't live together, you two now..."
He was interrupted by Song Zhiwei before he could finish speaking.
"My relationship with President Sheng is purely professional."
Song Zhiwei stood in the entryway, her hands clasped together in front of her.
“He helped me once before, so I just treated him to a meal, it’s that simple.”
Mo Huaizhi squinted, looking at the two of them with a mixture of belief and doubt, his gaze darting back and forth several times.
Finally, he asked hesitantly, "Really?"
Song Zhiwei looked directly at him, her eyes clear and earnest.
"real."
Looking at the familiar face before him, he recalled the quiet and gentle Song Zhiwei from his childhood.
Thinking of all this, his heart softened, and after hesitating for a long time, he finally nodded.
"Oh, I see."
He walked to the dining table and plopped down on it.
The chair legs scraped against the floor, making a screeching sound, but he paid no attention, his eyes fixed on the four dishes on the table.
"Wow, it smells delicious! I'm hungry too. Can I have a bite?"
Sheng Tingzhou glanced at him indifferently.
"If you're really hungry, I suggest you make do in the restroom; there's no room for you here."
After he finished speaking, he looked away and continued to slowly wipe the corner of his mouth.
Mo Huaizhi: "..."
He opened his mouth, but for a moment he couldn't find the words to refute it.
Song Zhiwei didn't mind, and turned around to get another pair of bowls and chopsticks, gently placing them in front of Mo Huaizhi.
"Brother Huai, come and eat with us, don't be shy."
Mo Huaizhi immediately beamed with joy, fine lines appearing at the corners of his eyes, deeply moved.
"Zhiwei is still the most considerate. It was right of her to spoil you when you were little!"
As he spoke, he quickly grabbed his chopsticks and unceremoniously stuffed a large piece of pork rib into his mouth.
He and Zhou Yuze were close friends. After learning that Zhou had a new niece, he would always go to the supermarket every time he received his allowance, buy a bunch of snacks, and wait to deliver them to her.
At that time, Song Zhiwei was only in the third grade of elementary school, and she was thin and small.
Upon seeing him, she timidly called out, "Brother Huaizhi."
But her eyes would light up every time she saw the candy and cookies he brought.
Song Zhiwei smiled and casually picked up a piece of food with her chopsticks.
The tender chicken, coated in sauce, is perfectly seasoned and incredibly fragrant.
It was made by Sheng Tingzhou, and it tasted surprisingly good.
She glanced at him, only to find that he had his eyes downcast and his expression indifferent.
The three of them ate and chatted, creating a lively atmosphere.
Mo Huaizhi recounted amusing anecdotes from his university days, gesturing exaggeratedly, which made Song Zhiwei chuckle frequently.
Although Sheng Tingzhou was not talkative, his occasional sarcastic remarks were always incredibly accurate.
Laughter and the clinking of bowls and chopsticks could be heard from time to time at the dining table.
After finishing his meal, Sheng Tingzhou put down his chopsticks.
The silver cutlery tapped gently on the porcelain plate, producing a crisp sound.
He looked at Mo Huaizhi with a blank expression.
"You're eating and drinking for free, so you're responsible for cleaning up the dishes and bowls."
"Huh? Me?"
Mo Huaizhi pointed to the tip of his nose, his face filled with disbelief.
"Are you kidding me! I'm a guest, okay? Besides, I'm not some country bumpkin. Who makes a guest wash dishes?"
He had never even held a bowl before, let alone washed pots and pans.
He has a nanny at home and roommates taking turns to do things in the dormitory. When will it be his turn to do things himself?
Now, have him stand in front of the sink and scrub the oil stains.
Sheng Tingzhou leaned back in his chair and said lazily, a faint smile playing on his lips.
"Yes, your sister's things are precious. If you break one, you'll have to pay a million. Be careful when you're working."
Mo Huaizhi's mouth was agape, wide enough to fit an egg, staring at him with wide eyes, his breath almost stopped.
"Dude, are you serious?"
Song Zhiwei pursed her lips, and her lips moved slightly.
Before she could even utter a word, Sheng Tingzhou seemed to have anticipated her thoughts.
Song Zhiwei's heart tightened, and she immediately understood his silent rejection.
She pursed her lips again, lowered her head and looked down, and finally said nothing more, standing quietly in place.
Looking at the scene before him, Mo Huaizhi couldn't help but sigh.
He muttered under his breath as he slowly rolled up his shirt sleeves.
