Chapter 12 A Sincere Thank You

Chapter 12 A Sincere Thank You

Her heart felt as if something heavy was pressing down on it, making it hard to breathe, and even her breathing became labored.

It turns out that even a sunny and respectable person like Zhou Yuze can break a promise for someone else.

The snow continued to fall, with large flakes drifting down from the gray sky.

Her down jacket was still in his car.

She herself was only wearing a thin suit jacket.

Standing on the street in the biting cold wind, he looked particularly frail.

In temperatures below -10 degrees Celsius, the cold wind cut like knives on her face, making her shiver all over.

She stamped her feet, trying to ward off some of the chill.

When I pulled my phone out of my pocket, my fingers were so stiff that I could barely touch the screen.

She opened the ride-hailing app, her fingertips trembling on the screen as she waited for the system to match her with a vehicle.

At that moment, a low-key Rolls-Royce slowly pulled up in front of her, its body as black as ink.

The car window rolled down silently, revealing a face with distinct features.

The man has well-defined features, deep-set eyes and brows, a high nose bridge, and a sharp jawline.

He was wearing a well-tailored black overcoat with the collar slightly open, revealing a dark gray turtleneck sweater underneath.

His gaze fell lightly on her.

"Waiting for someone?"

The man spoke, his voice deep and slightly husky with a magnetic quality.

Surprisingly, it sounded pleasant to the ear.

Song Zhiwei unconsciously took a small step back, leaving a shallow footprint in the snow.

She lowered her eyes, tightened her grip on her phone, and softly replied, "Mm."

"Come on up."

The man spoke calmly, without any emotion.

As soon as he finished speaking, the car door automatically opened, accompanied by a soft "beep".

A warm breeze wafted over, carrying a faint woody scent.

She finally regained some feeling in her frozen hands and feet.

"No need, thank you, Brother Tingzhou. My car will be here soon."

She didn't want to trouble him, and besides, she wasn't familiar with Sheng Tingzhou.

The last time we met was at the company's annual meeting.

She accidentally blocked his way, and he said, "Can't you watch where you're going?"

This left her speechless.

The last time was in the elevator; she pressed the wrong floor button, and he simply pressed cancel, coldly saying, "Troublesome."

Even now, the thought of it still makes her heart clench.

"What? Afraid I'll kidnap you?"

He raised an eyebrow, a slight smile playing on his lips, his tone lazy, as if he were joking.

"No..." Of course she wouldn't tell the truth.

She wasn't afraid of being kidnapped.

Rather, she was afraid that she wouldn't be able to handle his aura, afraid that if she said the wrong thing, he would give her a cold look.

Sheng Tingzhou leaned back in his seat, his long, slender fingers casually resting on the edge of the steering wheel.

With his other hand, he unbuttoned his coat, revealing a sharply tailored suit underneath.

A casual smile played on his lips.

"So what are you afraid of? Are you planning to stand here and freeze into an icicle so I can offer you a toast at your funeral?"

Song Zhiwei: "..."

She bit her lip, speechless for a moment.

A cold wind rushed into her collar, making her shiver.

She looked at the open car door, hesitated for a few seconds, and finally slowly climbed into the car.

She got into the passenger seat, pulled on her seatbelt, and fastened it with a click.

As the car's heater blew in, the snow on my body began to melt quickly.

Water droplets seeped into the lining of the suit fabric, clinging damply to the skin and bringing a chilling sensation.

She couldn't help but shrank her shoulders and instinctively hugged her arms tightly.

Sheng Tingzhou glanced at her, his gaze lingering on her soaked shoulders for a moment, his tone remaining calm.

"Take off your coat."

"ah?"

Song Zhiwei was stunned for a moment and didn't react.

Her eyes widened slightly, and her pupils trembled gently.

He chuckled softly, a slight smile playing on his lips.

"Your clothes are soaked through, but you're still wrapped up tightly and won't let go. Are you trying to get another high fever? Your body's temperature regulation ability is very poor?"

She suddenly realized what was happening, and a faint blush rose to her cheeks.

She lowered her head, her fingers curling slightly, and murmured softly, "No need... really no need."

She was only wearing a simple white shirt underneath.

That was something I prepared specifically for today's interview; it was simple and appropriate, with the collar buttoned up meticulously.

But now, the shirt is already soaked through by the rain.

In this situation, one should take off one's outer garment and put on Sheng Tingzhou's in front of him.

It made her feel so embarrassed that she could hardly speak.

He gave her a cool glance and asked in a half-joking tone, "Are you a blockhead? Can't you say anything other than 'no need'?"

Song Zhiwei was startled, and her lowered eyelashes trembled suddenly.

Her face felt even hotter.

Seeing her like this, Sheng Tingzhou's brows relaxed slightly, and his tone finally softened.

"Take it off, don't force yourself. You can wear this one."

As he spoke, he raised his hand and tossed a neatly folded piece of clothing onto her lap.

Song Zhiwei looked down at the black cashmere coat on her knees. Her fingertips touched the soft fabric, and she was suddenly taken aback, somewhat surprised.

The coat was heavy and of excellent quality; it was clearly very expensive.

She paused for a moment, looked up at him, and then quickly looked away.

This man doesn't seem as difficult to get along with as the rumors suggest.

At least their actions at this moment are not entirely cold-hearted.

She hesitated for a moment, then bit her lip and carefully reached out to unbutton the damp, cold suit jacket.

She took off the cold, clinging suit jacket and quickly draped the overcoat over her shoulders.

The clothes were very large, almost completely enveloping her.

Cashmere is thick and warm; a gentle wrap can dispel the chill.

A faint ebony scent lingered around my nose, clear and calming.

Her heart skipped a beat.

She couldn't help but secretly glance up at the man sitting next to her.

Sheng Tingzhou's profile was sharp and defined, his jawline was as cold and stern as if carved by a knife, and his eyes were half-closed at the moment.

A high, straight nose with deep-set features.

The light coming in from the window was dim, slanting across his body.

The light cast a shadow over half of his body, while the other half was bathed in a faint glow.

He looked mysterious and profound.

She took a deep breath and finally mustered her courage.

"Thank you."

"Just a thank you?"

He suddenly opened his eyes, his gaze sharp, and turned to look at her.

Song Zhiwei was startled by the sudden gaze, her fingers trembled slightly, and she asked hesitantly, "Then... what do you want?"

She was thinking quickly.

Someone of his noble status and illustrious family background must be rich.

What would he want?

Sheng Tingzhou raised an eyebrow slightly, a faint smile curving his lips.

"Treat me to dinner tonight, so I can see if you're truly grateful."

"OK."

She agreed almost without hesitation.

They did help her, and even gave her their coat.

This request is not excessive; in fact, it can be considered quite reasonable.

"You choose the location."

She added, her tone revealing a hint of composure.

She had only recently returned to Yancheng and was completely unfamiliar with the restaurants there.

I don't even know the directions of the shopping districts I frequent, so how could I dare to make any recommendations?

"Um."

The man responded with a low voice.

The car continued forward, its tires making a soft sound as they rolled over the wet road surface.

The street scene outside the window slowly recedes.

Finally, the car came to a smooth stop in front of a Chinese-style restaurant.

Red lanterns hang from the carved eaves, and two stone lions stand solemnly in front of the door.
