Chapter 61 Grand and Impressive
The moment she sent it, she didn't even dare to look up immediately.
It was only at that moment that she suddenly realized that by promising to provide three meals a day, she had essentially locked herself out of her weekends.
There was silence on the other end for a while, and the message box kept showing "The other party is typing," but there was still no follow-up.
Finally, my phone vibrated, and I only replied with a simple message: "Okay, I understand."
She locked her phone and let out a soft breath.
She looked up at Sheng Tingzhou and said, "I've already declined. You can go change your clothes now."
The gloomy look on Sheng Tingzhou's face finally dissipated a bit.
He slowly got up, dragging his slippers, and lazily walked towards the door.
Song Zhiwei watched his retreating figure, her fingertips unconsciously touching her nose, her eyes somewhat unfocused.
Five minutes later, the two entered the elevator together.
The metal door slowly closed, revealing their figures standing side by side.
Song Zhiwei secretly glanced at him through the mirror in the elevator, her gaze lingering on his profile for a moment before quickly looking away.
"Mr. Sheng, does this mean I can't go out on weekends anymore?"
Sheng Tingzhou glanced at her sideways, his gaze indifferent yet scrutinizing, his tone nonchalant.
"What, did I tie your legs to a pillar?"
Song Zhiwei choked, her chest heaving slightly, a breath stuck in her throat, neither rising nor falling.
She wrinkled her nose as if she had choked, and finally mustered up her courage to say cautiously, "But you come to my house for dinner every weekend, I don't have time to make plans with anyone."
"You want to back out?"
His eyes darkened, his voice lowered, and he stared intently at her.
“It’s not that I’m backing out,” she quickly shook her head, her voice trembling slightly, “but I can’t stay home every weekend, can I?”
She also has friends, wants to see people, wants to sit in a coffee shop, and wants to stroll through the streets on a weekend afternoon.
You can't completely cut off your social life and live like someone who's been raised in captivity.
Sheng Tingzhou said calmly.
"Don't even mention it if you're making excuses for the guy who asked you to go skiing."
As soon as he finished speaking, the elevator dinged and arrived at the ground floor.
The metal door slowly opened, and a cold wind rushed in, ruffling her hair.
"Why?"
Song Zhiwei frowned slightly, her eyes filled with confusion.
"nothing."
"It's just that the thought that you'd rather go out with those frivolous and unreliable people than even glance at me makes me a little upset."
As soon as he finished speaking, the elevator rang with a crisp "ding".
The metal door slid open slowly to both sides, making a slight mechanical sound.
Without the slightest hesitation, he stepped out.
Song Zhiwei stood there, her head buzzing.
He froze instantly, unable to move.
A buzzing sound filled my ears, and my heart began to beat faster involuntarily.
What did he just say?
She instinctively opened her mouth, but no sound came out.
Did she mishear?
Or was I hallucinating?
Sheng Tingzhou had already taken a few steps forward when he noticed there was no movement behind him. He stopped and turned around.
He found her still standing there blankly in the elevator, his brows furrowed, and he snorted coldly, his tone tinged with sarcasm.
"Hurry up! Do you really want me to go in and carry you out? The supermarket security cameras are all on."
Song Zhiwei's scalp tightened, and her ears instantly burned.
She quickly took a deep breath, took a step forward, and almost ran out of the elevator to catch up with him.
Could it be that Sheng Tingzhou was serious about what he just said?
The thought had barely crossed her mind when Song Zhiwei pinched her palm as if she'd been burned.
She blinked hard, forcing herself to calm down.
Sheng Tingzhou is a noble young master from the top echelons of Yancheng, born at the finish line that countless people strive for their entire lives but cannot reach.
And what about her?
Let alone being a match for him, even being with He Yufeng would be considered a huge step up.
Not to mention having any romantic feelings for Sheng Tingzhou; that's just wishful thinking.
She quickly shook her head vigorously, as if trying to shake all those inappropriate thoughts out of her mind.
Then I took a deep breath, forced myself to concentrate, and silently followed him into the supermarket.
Sheng Tingzhou casually picked up a shopping cart from the shelf next to him.
With a gentle push from her slender fingers, the shopping cart obediently slid forward.
He had one hand in his pocket and was easily pushing the cart with the other.
Song Zhiwei followed obediently behind, her hands unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes, her mind in turmoil.
That sentence kept replaying in my mind.
She even forgot what she came to the supermarket to buy.
Even the most basic shopping list has become a blur in my memory.
The two walked like this, one in front of the other, for almost twenty minutes.
The shopping cart was still empty; not even a single potato chip had been put in.
Finally, Sheng Tingzhou suddenly stopped, turned slightly to the side, and looked back at her.
"What's wrong? Did the groceries at the supermarket upset you? You've been standing here for ages without taking a single thing."
"ah?"
Song Zhiwei suddenly snapped back to her senses, looked up abruptly, and stared blankly at the sky.
He raised an eyebrow slightly, his tone still indifferent, yet tinged with a hint of mockery.
"You've been driving around for so long and haven't put anything in the car. You're more picky about vegetables than you're about choosing a partner."
Song Zhiwei was taken aback by these words, her cheeks flushed slightly, and her brows furrowed involuntarily.
Just as I was about to explain, my phone rang abruptly.
She quickly took her phone out of her bag, looked down, and saw that it was Xie Lingling calling.
Without thinking twice, she quickly answered the call and put the phone to her ear.
Xie Lingling's slightly anxious voice immediately came from the other end of the phone.
"Zhiwei, didn't you say just a few days ago that the He family's kid was a good person, with a good personality and a stable family background? How come I heard this morning that you directly rejected him? What happened?"
She had just finished speaking when she suddenly remembered the message she hadn't replied to.
Xie Lingling continued, "Mrs. He called me personally. Her tone was very polite, but every word was barbed. She said that she felt our Zhou family was too noble and that their He family was not worthy of her. She said that the marriage should not be mentioned again."
Song Zhiwei's heart sank.
She never imagined that it would all be because she hadn't agreed to go skiing with He Yufeng.
The He family was in such a hurry to cancel the marriage, and they even made it sound so high-sounding.
Actually, she was willing to give it a try.
After all, although He Yufeng has a cold personality, his family background and character are good, so he can be considered a suitable candidate.
Before we even started any formal contact, and we barely even met, the relationship just fell apart for no apparent reason.
"Did you have a fight with Yufeng?"
Xie Lingling continued to ask with concern on the other end of the phone.
Song Zhiwei lowered her head, her fingers unconsciously stroking the edge of her phone, her voice slightly weak and tinged with helplessness.
"No, he asked me to go skiing in the mountains this morning, but I thought it was too far and the temperature was dropping, so I didn't go."
After listening, Xie Lingling remained silent for a few seconds.
"Sigh, never mind, maybe it's just not meant to be. Mom will arrange another one for you next week, someone with good prospects. Don't take it too hard."
She originally thought highly of He Yufeng.
But Madam He's words today, spoken in a dismissive manner and with hidden meanings, made her feel really uncomfortable.
Since Old Mrs. Zhou passed away, those ladies who used to call each other brothers and sisters have...
Who among them didn't treat her politely and greet her with a smile?
