Chapter 126 It's Not Too Late

Chapter 126 It's Not Too Late

Sheng Tingzhou heard it clearly, and a distinct smile appeared on his lips.

He reached out and ruffled her hair without any hesitation.

Song Zhiwei frowned, instinctively flinching, but then didn't actually dodge.

She looked up and glared at him, her eyes filled with displeasure.

I'm not your dog, why do you keep patting my head?

If you touch me again, I'll bite your hand!

She had just arrived home, and the door wasn't even fully closed yet.

Jiang Mengxi sneaked out from the corner of the living room.

She grabbed Song Zhiwei's arm.

Song Zhiwei lost her balance, and the moment her bottom touched the soft cushion, Jiang Mengxi pressed her shoulders down firmly, staring intently at her.

"Tell me now! How far have things progressed between you two? Have you kissed? Don't lie!"

She saw that scene very clearly just now.

That clingy, affectionate way of interacting isn't how ordinary friends get along.

This is clearly a classic scene from a romance drama where the male lead protects the female lead!

Song Zhiwei felt a chill run down her spine from her gaze, lowered her head, and her cheeks flushed again.

She bit her lower lip, her fingers unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes.

Just thinking about how domineering yet tender he was when he kissed her at her doorstep makes her heart race.

But a sense of grievance welled up in my heart.

She hadn't even agreed to be with him yet, so why did he kiss her like that, as if it were his right?

Seeing that she was keeping her head down and not saying a word, Jiang Mengxi's mouth opened wide enough to fit an egg, and her eyes widened.

She slammed her hand on the coffee table, making a loud "bang".

"You...you actually did so much behind my back! Good heavens, I live here every day and I didn't hear a thing? Have you two already secretly registered your marriage?!"

Song Zhiwei's heart tightened, and she quickly waved her hand, speaking rapidly.

"No, really! Don't make wild guesses!"

Jiang Mengxi, however, did not believe it, her eyes sharp as knives.

She grabbed the remote control and, as if it were an interrogation tool, gently pressed it against Song Zhiwei's neck.

"Tell me the truth! When did you two secretly kiss? Where? Do you have any video evidence? Tell me!"

She grew angrier the more she thought about it, angry that her roommate and best friend had managed to keep such a big thing a secret from her!

She lives here every day, and she even knows when the yogurt in the kitchen refrigerator is running low.

How could you be completely unaware of the undercurrents between these two people?

Were they flirting with each other while she was taking a shower?

Or were they whispering to each other on the balcony in the middle of the night?

Song Zhiwei was both amused and exasperated. She avoided her gaze and spoke softer and softer until it was almost a mosquito's hum.

"Well... once he came to my house, stood at the door, and asked me... if I wanted to say yes."

"But his kiss was purely accidental! Don't overthink it, I haven't made up my mind yet, and I... I haven't agreed to be with him."

She spoke, her eyes darting away.

Jiang Mengxi gritted her teeth, slapped her thigh, and angrily said, "You, Sheng Tingzhou, that bastard, you haven't even become my official girlfriend yet, and you're already bullying me! You're taking advantage of my vulnerability! Just because you're handsome and from a good family, you think you can get me so easily? No way!"

She became more and more excited as she spoke, her voice rising eight octaves.

"You have to make him take full responsibility for her! Zhiwei, you need to stand firm and not be fooled by his face! That's just a trick, you know? It's all a man's usual tactic!"

Song Zhiwei couldn't help but laugh, and finally raised her hand to remove the remote control that was pressed against her neck.

"Oh dear, I have to catch an early flight tomorrow, how can I have time to act out 'Interrogation Room Storm' with you here? Take the remote back, the TV screen is all black."

Jiang Mengxi reacted immediately, her eyes lighting up with alertness, and she grabbed Song Zhiwei's wrist.

"Wait, you're not going on a business trip with Sheng Tingzhou, are you? You two aren't going to the same place, are you?"

Song Zhiwei didn't hide it and nodded.

"Yes, it's arranged by the company. We're going to Jiangcheng for a meeting and will be back in three days."

Jiang Mengxi suddenly grabbed her hand.

"Zhiwei, don't let me down! Don't let that man get away with it so easily! He seems gentle and considerate, but he's actually very cunning. I'm afraid you won't be able to handle him! Remember, you haven't agreed to be with him yet, so there's no relationship between you two. Don't let a little attraction make you foolish!"

As she spoke, her eyes suddenly reddened.

Her family was pressuring her to go on blind dates, so she shouldn't have gotten drunk, and she definitely shouldn't have acted impulsively at that dinner party and had a relationship with that man.

She didn't want Song Zhiwei to repeat her mistakes.

Song Zhiwei immediately understood her concerns and quickly waved her hand.

"What are you thinking? I swear, absolutely not. Sheng Tingzhou and I aren't even friends anymore, at most we're colleagues and... a bit of a complicated past relationship. How could I possibly cross the line? Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

Her tone was earnest, her eyes clear, without the slightest hint of evasion.

Jiang Mengxi stared at her for several seconds before finally letting out a slow sigh of relief, her shoulders slumping.

The next morning.

As dawn broke, Song Zhiwei dragged her suitcase out the door.

The morning breeze was cool, causing the wisps of hair on her forehead to flutter gently.

She wore a simple beige trench coat, carried a commuter bag on her shoulder, and walked briskly down the stairs.

As soon as I reached the entrance of the building, I saw Sheng Tingzhou's driver already waiting there.

The man, dressed in a crisp black uniform, strode forward with a polite smile on his face.

"Good morning, Ms. Song. I'm here to pick you and Mr. Sheng up to go to the airport."

As he spoke, he reached out and took the suitcase from her hands.

Song Zhiwei smiled, her voice sweet and clear.

"Thank you, you've worked hard."

The driver nodded and put the box into the trunk.

He then opened the back door for her.

The morning sunlight shone on the car roof, casting a soft halo.

After getting on the bus, the man slowly leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes to rest.

The chill of the early morning seeped in through the cracks in the car window.

He didn't move, just leaned back quietly, breathing evenly.

The collar of his black trench coat stood up slightly, making his jawline appear even more defined.

As the New Year approaches, the mornings in Yancheng are shrouded in a gray haze.

The bare branches of the plane trees lining the street swayed gently in the wind.

The streetlights were still on, and the dim yellow light slanted in through the car window, dappling his face, half bright and clear, half hidden in shadow.

Song Zhiwei carefully got into the passenger seat.

She stared ahead for a moment, hesitated, then mustered her courage and said softly, "Good morning, Mr. Sheng."

"Um."

Sheng Tingzhou opened his eyes, his eyelashes trembling slightly.

Have you had breakfast?

She shook her head, her fingers unconsciously tracing the edge of the seatbelt, and whispered, "I was in a rush, I didn't have time."

She had to leave early this morning, so she got up at 5:30 to pack her luggage, without even having time to make herself a cup of milk.

He didn't ask any further questions, but simply nodded slightly and closed his eyes again.

Silence fell again inside the car.

Half an hour later, the car came to a smooth stop at the airport entrance.

The sky remained overcast, and a cold wind swept in.

The airport terminal was brightly lit.

It's currently the peak travel season before the holiday, and there are long queues at the security checkpoints.

Many people were dragging their luggage, looking hurried.

The driver walked ahead, carrying two suitcases, his steps steady.

Sheng Tingzhou walked in the middle, dressed in a sharp suit, with a cold expression.
