Chapter 20
Mu Shaoqing returned to the hotel in Hanyang that he called home.
Mu Zhengxi stood at the restaurant entrance for a while, stunned, his eyes under the brim of his hat confirming that he hadn't seen a ghost.
Mu Shaoqing glanced at the person standing in the doorway and said irritably, "What, doesn't your dad recognize you?"
Okay, he is human, but this objective fact doesn't seem to bring any joy. Mu Zhengxi walked into the restaurant, casually tossed his backpack onto a chair, and sat down three chairs away from Mu Shaoqing. A servant served him dinner.
After a hearty meal, Mu Shaoqing had his tableware removed, but he remained seated and was served a cup of tea.
“The airline told me that you’ve been traveling to Nanshan City frequently lately.”
Mu Zhengxi, who was stuffing food into his mouth, lowered his eyes upon hearing this, his heart skipped a beat, and then he smirked, "What, does the airline also manage passengers' itineraries? Isn't that an invasion of privacy?" He looked up, his eyes filled with contempt and disdain.
Mu Shaoqing crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair, observing his son with curiosity and amusement for a while before sincerely asking, "So, could you please tell me why you keep going to Nanshan?"
Mu Zhengxi replied without hesitation, "I'm just trying to relax."
Mu Shaoqing drawled out an "oh," and said, "Going all the way to such a far place?" He sat up straight and placed his hand on the dining table. "Mu Zhengxi, you don't want me to find out what you're doing in Nanshan City, do you?"
The people at the table continued eating without changing their expressions, displaying an indifferent attitude.
The butler came in and said, "Mr. Mu, Mr. Liu has arrived."
Mu Shaoqing stood up and put his hand on Mu Zhengxi's shoulder as he passed by him. "I spent so much money on your ball games and school sponsorships, not for you to play around with. You don't want to be worse than your brother, do you?"
The dagger is revealed when the map is unrolled; one stab and the man is dead.
As the footsteps faded into the distance, Mu Zhengxi put down the spoon in his hand. A faint tingling pain spread through his little finger, like insects biting and gnawing at his nerves, the numbness extending all the way to his stomach. He felt nauseous and his mouth was filled with food. He got up, went into the bathroom, and spat out the food that was stuffed in his mouth.
He still has a long way to go to catch up with Mu Shaoqing's ability to kill without shedding blood.
Xu Zizhao was still a bit dazed when Mu Zhengxi dragged him out of his house late at night. He drove around most of Hanyang, bought a second-hand cell phone, and even went to his sister to ask her to get him a SIM card.
Xu Zizhao peeked at Mu Zhengxi fiddling with his new phone, yawned, and asked sleepily, puzzled, "Why go through all this trouble? What, are you a spy? What kind of conspiracy are you plotting?"
“My dad’s back recently. I don’t know if he might suddenly go crazy. I have to be prepared.” Mu Zhengxi put his phone back in his pocket. For Mu Shaoqing, it’s always good to be a little more cautious.
"He checked your call history???"
"Possibly."
"Seriously, what's the point of checking your call logs??? What were you doing behind my back???"
"Nothing much, I'll tell you another day."
"Another day later??? Are we even brothers?"
"Same thing. Let's go back to sleep. We have school tomorrow."
"Now you know you have to go to school?! When you rushed me out of the house, didn't you think about school tomorrow? Hey, wait for me!!"
Jiang Jiayi won first prize in the provincial middle school mathematics competition on behalf of the school. This was the best result and the youngest member among the school's participants.
Originally, they just wanted Jiang Jiayi to give it a try, but it unexpectedly gave them a pleasant surprise.
When the principal, homeroom teacher, and subject teachers came to his home, Jiang Weichao was so nervous that he thought something had happened to Jiang Jiayi at school.
The principal quickly waved his hand and smiled, "Jia Yi's father, don't be nervous, I've brought you good news." He then looked at the homeroom teacher, who usually had more contact with parents.
The homeroom teacher chimed in, "Yes, Jia Yi's father, don't be nervous. We're here to congratulate you and to discuss our ideas and plans for Jia Yi's future development."
Jiang Weichao knew that winning the award was a good thing, but he didn't understand what the path of academic competitions was. The subject teacher in charge of the school's competitions explained to him that if he won the national gold medal in the future, he could not only be directly admitted to a university, but also enter the national training team to participate in international competitions.
"To be honest with you teachers, I don't have a high level of education. My child's grades are all thanks to your support and help all along, as well as his own self-awareness and maturity. If Jia Yi is willing to like it, I, as his father, will definitely support him without hesitation."
As Jiang Jiayi's homeroom teacher, Xu Jieting paid special attention to him from the beginning of his schooling, not only because of his outstanding academic performance, but also because of his age and the family situation she learned about during her first home visit.
“Jia Yi’s father, don’t say that. As a father, you have already done a much better job than many others.”
The subject teacher nodded, "Jiang Jiayi is an optimistic and resilient child who is also very respectful and polite to teachers. I think this is not an education that can be achieved by teachers and schools alone."
Jiang Weichao felt a lump in his throat. "Thank you, thank you so much, teachers, for your care."
evening.
When Jiang Jia came home from school and saw that there was no one in the store, she called upstairs as she walked, "Dad."
"Eh."
Jiang Weichao responded.
Jiang Jiayi ran upstairs quickly, excitedly pulling a red envelope from her pocket. "Dad, look! This is the scholarship I got for participating in the competition. Here you go! I can help you pay half of next quarter's rent!"
"What are you talking about? Why are you worrying about this?" Jiang Weichao was amused by him and handed him the incense sticks. "Light some incense for your mother and tell her that you won an award. Make your mother happy too."
"good!"
Jiang Weichao lit an incense stick for him.
Holding an incense stick in one hand, Jiang Jia closed his eyes and silently prayed, "Mom, I won an award in the school competition and even got a prize. Isn't that amazing? You can rest assured over there. I've listened to Dad and my sister and grown up well. I'll grow into a very capable man."
Jiang Weichao realized that he had grown up a bit more; he could no longer loudly read out what he wanted to say to his mother, nor did he need to stand on tiptoe to insert the incense sticks into the incense burner.
Jiang Jiayi handed him the red envelope, saying, "Dad, here's the money."
“Dad will keep this money for you and save it for when you go to college.” Jiang Weichao took out his wallet from his pocket and gave him a twenty-yuan note. “This is a reward from Dad.”
"I'd like to eat grilled fish again tonight!"
"I'll take you and your sister out for dinner tonight."
"Really?!"
"real."
"Very good!"
Jiang Weichao pulled him to sit down in the living room. "Your teacher came to see me this afternoon. She wants you to join the competition class later. Are you willing?"
Jiang Jia nodded, "I think it's great that I can compete and make money at the same time."
Jiang Weichao's expression instantly turned serious. "Don't think about making money. The kids should think about the kids, understand?"
Jiang Jia nodded, "Okay."
Jiang Weichao patted his head and smiled, then pretended to be angry and said, "Besides, don't you believe in Dad's abilities? You think I can't support you and your sister? You're underestimating Dad."
Jiang Jiayi laughed heartily when her ticklish spot was tickled.
The phone rang.
"Hello? I'm here. I just got back from school."
Jiang Weichao handed him the phone.
“It was my aunt on the phone. I told her you won a prize in the competition. She was very happy and said she would give you a red envelope.”
"aunt!"
Not long after, Jiang Jiawei arrived home.
Jiang Jiayi held up the phone and shook it at her, "Sister, it's Aunt on the phone."
Jiang Jiawei quickly walked over and took the phone.
"aunt!"
After finishing her evening self-study session, Jiang Jiawei returned home, took a shower, and was about to blow-dry her hair when Jiang Jiayi came into her room, acting mysteriously.
Jiang Jiawei also lowered her voice to cooperate, "What?"
Jiang Jiayi pulled out a hundred yuan from her pajama bottoms. "Sis, here you go."
"Where did the money come from???"
"I took it from the prize money."
Does Dad know?
"He didn't know, I didn't tell him."
"Then why are you giving it to me???"
Jiang Jiayi shoved it into her hand, saying, "Oh, take it, buy whatever girls like." After saying that, Jiang Jiayi walked out, seemingly quite embarrassed.
"Hey Jiang Jiayi!"
The door closed.
Jiang Jiawei unfolded the red banknotes in her hand and looked at them for a while. They were as festive as her younger brother's, cute and quite funny.
She sat down at her desk, picked up a ballpoint pen from the pen holder, wrote down the date, and placed the banknote in the frame of her mother's photo on the desk.
On the upper right corner of the desk was a copy of "Me and the Temple of Earth" that Mu Zhengxi had brought for her.
Turning to the title page, the three characters "Jiang Wenqing" were written in vigorous and powerful regular script.
"Jiang, Wen, Qing".
"Junghee, Jeonghee, Mu Jeonghee."
The sound echoing in my ears was like a valley echo, both near and far.
The chaotic dream is like a book being flipped through too quickly, making it impossible to see anything clearly.
"Junghee, wake up, get up."
Mu Zhengxi suddenly opened his eyes. He stood up too abruptly, and the sudden lack of blood supply caused his vision to go black.
"Young master, you're going to be late for school."
The tone was half helpless and half like coaxing a child.
Mu Zhengxi rubbed his eyes, glanced at the alarm clock on the bedside table, threw back the covers, got out of bed, and went into the bathroom. While brushing his teeth, he remembered something and came out. "Brother Lin, did your CEO Mu come back last night?"
The person making his bed went along with his words, saying, "Yes, our CEO Mu is having breakfast in the kitchen right now."
Mu Zhengxi rolled his eyes at this.
When are you leaving?
Brother Lin laughed and shrugged, indicating that it was beyond his scope of responsibility.
"You'll have to ask your dad about that."
"..."
After washing up, Mu Zhengxi went downstairs and rode his bicycle out without even having breakfast.
