Chapter 26
The weather has cleared up.
The sun was high in the sky.
The temperature has warmed up a bit.
At 8:00 a.m., all teachers and students of the Third Middle School lined up and assembled according to the positions rehearsed, and the class formations lined up on the roadside at the school gate.
At 8:30, the school broadcast the host's speech.
Mu Zhengxi sat on the electric scooter in front of Jiang Jiawei's breakfast shop, holding a bottle of milk that Jiang Weichao had heated for him, and biting on the straw.
Jiang Jiawei's group was lined up right at the school gate, and they were easy to spot. The girls wore matching dark red hoodies, and the boys wore black ones. Their hoodies had a logo designed by their class. Not every class buys its own uniforms; Jiang Jiawei's class was one of the rare exceptions. She said it was sponsored by Zhang Chao's father and the family of the student who designed the logo.
The girls all had the same hairstyle, braided. In the morning, Jiang Jiawei told him that it was called boxer braids.
Jiang Jiawei told him to wait at the lottery shop at 9:30. Actually, he didn't need Zhang Chao at all. It wasn't like he hadn't climbed over the school wall before. But he couldn't let Jiang Jiawei know about this.
Mu Zhengxi had no choice but to agree.
Jiang Weichao came over after finishing his work, and put his arm around Mu Zhengxi's shoulder, "Have you seen Jiajia?"
"There."
Mu Zhengxi pointed precisely.
You can spot them immediately in a crowd.
"Hey, class monitor, your dad."
Jiang Jiawei, who was talking to Chen Jingyu, peeked out and waved to Jiang Weichao.
Shop owners along the roadside would come out and gather in front of their shops to watch, along with some parents. Even Zhenzhen, who usually sleeps in late, came to join in the fun because Jiang Jiawei had asked her to help braid the hair of the girls in her class that morning.
Zhenzhen saw Mu Zhengxi walking over.
"Handsome guy, you're back."
Mu Zhengxi: "Good morning, Sister Zhenzhen." He addressed her in the same way Jiang Jiawei did.
Good morning, Brother Jiang.
Good morning, Zhenzhen. Have you had breakfast yet?
"have eaten."
Zhenzhen looked at Mu Zhengxi, puzzled, "Hey, aren't you in school?"
"I've caught a cold."
"Oh, your voice is so powerful."
"It's much better now."
Jiang Weichao instructed Mu Zhengxi, "You need to take your medicine later."
"good."
Zhenzhen crossed her arms and said, "Seriously, there are a lot of pretty girls in these three schools, but Jiajia is still the cutest."
Jiang Weichao nodded in agreement.
Mu Zhengxi thought of the goldfish on the dining table.
bubble bubble bubble.
He smiled and raised his lips.
"Mr. Jiang, have some breakfast."
"They're here."
"Hey Jung-hee, do you want to go in and play?"
Upon hearing this, Mu Zhengxi loosened his grip on the straw.
Jiang Weichao gave him a look that said, "I'll take care of you."
Then he saw Jiang Weichao say something to a customer who had just arrived. The customer looked at him and complimented him, "Old Jiang, your family has great genes. They're all handsome men and beautiful women."
Then he said, "Sure, no problem. The school sports meet is just for kids to have fun anyway."
Jiang Jiawei and her group disappeared from sight. Mu Zhengxi finished his milk and returned to the shop.
"Zhengxi, Teacher Zhang will take you inside to play with Jiajia and the others later."
The person eating breakfast looked up and smiled at him.
Mu Zhengxi's mind raced, and he greeted her politely, "Hello, Teacher Zhang~"
"Hello."
"Here, take your medicine first."
Jiang Weichao poured him a glass of warm water.
Okay~
Since I'm neither a homeroom teacher nor an administrative staff member, my time as a subject teacher during the three days of the school sports meet was relatively relaxed.
Mu Zhengxi followed Teacher Zhang, who had finished breakfast, into the school. During the opening ceremony, when the athletes' representatives gave their speeches, Teacher Zhang pointed to the location of Jiang Jiawei's class and said, "That's Class 12, your sister's class."
Huh? Sister?
"Sister?" Mu Zhengxi blinked, making sure she hadn't misheard.
"Jiawei, you know."
Mu Zhengxi seemed to have guessed what Jiang Weichao had said. He probably mentioned that he was a relative's child or something, because Jiang Weichao had jokingly said he was his nephew when someone from the neighboring shop saw him. At the time, Mu Zhengxi didn't dare to deny it and could only pray that Jiang Weichao wouldn't be angry with him when he found out his true identity.
But why call her the older sister? She'd be more like the younger sister!
Good morning, Teacher Zhang.
"morning."
"Who is this?"
"Haha, this is my kid, I brought him over to play."
Mu Zhengxi realized that Changqing had a unique characteristic: every child there was the child of one of the adults.
"So tall and handsome."
"Right, good genes."
"Haha, it definitely doesn't come from you."
"I was quite good when I was young."
"We were just notified that the meeting would be at 9:30."
"good."
Teacher Zhang patted Mu Zhengxi's back lightly, "They'll be free to do whatever they want after the opening ceremony. Wait here for a bit."
"Okay, thank you, Teacher Zhang!"
Good-looking children can be very convincing when they pretend to be well-behaved.
A huge crowd of people. Jiang Jiawei and his class, the second-year high school students, were sandwiched between the first-year and third-year students. Even with 5.1 vision and a height of 185 cm, they couldn't see each other clearly.
After the students finished their speeches, the principal also gave his. Mu Zhengxi, with his hands in his pockets, thought to himself, "It's the same in every school."
finally.
Fireworks were set off on the platform.
The school sports meet was officially declared open.
The massive school of sardines scattered, and Mu Zhengxi tiptoed to look inside, walking against the flow of the fish into the school. He was like a giant catfish that had wandered into the school, attracting many curious glances along the way because of his different species.
"Hey, hey, hey, Jiang Jiawei, Mu Zhengxi!"
Chen Jingyu excitedly patted her arm.
Jiang Jiawei looked up and saw him immediately. She had just been telling Zhang Chao to bring Mu Zhengxi in, so how did he suddenly appear here? She looked back and saw that Zhang Chao was still there.
"Jung Hee!"
Mu Zhengxi heard Jiang Jiawei's voice.
Among the sardines, a goldfish was jumping around, waving its fins very hard.
Mu Zhengxi walked over quickly and found it.
She complained to her, "Jiang Jiawei, you are really short."
"Where is it short?"
Normal height.
How did you get in?
Mu Zhengxi smiled smugly, "Impressive, isn't it?"
Jiang Jiawei noticed that he was wearing clothes his father had worn when he was young, clothes that his mother had bought for him years ago in Guangdong: a navy blue woolen jacket and light-colored loose jeans. "You're wearing my father's clothes?" she exclaimed.
"Yes, my uncle gave it to me."
Jiang Jiawei smiled and said, "My mother bought this for him."
It seems my mother-in-law has excellent taste. Mu Zhengxi looked down at himself, quite satisfied.
"Let's go to our base camp."
Jiang Jiawei tilted her head, signaling him to follow.
"Hey, how did you get in here?" Zhang Chao walked to Mu Zhengxi's side, straightening his posture unconsciously, and whispered, "Our class representative even said he would ask me to pick you up, but I thought to myself, you're an expert at climbing over walls, why would you need me to pick you up?"
Mu Zhengxi looked nervously at Jiang Jiawei, who was walking ahead, and grabbed her shoulder, "You didn't let it slip, did you!"
"No way," Zhang Chao said, assuring everyone that he could handle things. "But you're really too bold. Although our school sports meet isn't strictly managed, I have to admire your audacity in coming in like this."
Mu Zhengxi, hands in his pockets, said matter-of-factly, "I came in through the front door."
"Really?! Didn't the security guards stop them?"
"Guess."
I owe you so much.
Each class had a designated area as their base camp, and Jiang Jiawei and a few other class committee members borrowed three four-cornered sunshade tents from a shop outside the school.
The sports committee member assigned the few male soldiers he had on hand: some boys to set up tents, and others to move desks and chairs from the classroom. Since there weren't enough people, Jiang Jiawei and the others had to help get chairs from the classroom.
"Could you help set up the tent?"
Jiang Jiawei felt that Mu Zhengxi, who was so tall, shouldn't be wasted, so she made him an unofficial member of their class.
Mu Zhengxi refused immediately, "No, I want to go to the classroom to move desks and chairs too." He hadn't seen Jiang Jiawei's classroom yet.
"That's okay too."
Mu Zhengxi grabbed Zhang Chao and said, "Come on, let's go to your class and move some desks and chairs." It was too strange for one person to be with a group of girls.
Zhang Chao was happy to be with him; it was a grand affair.
"Chao, who is this?"
"My friend."
Knowing that he usually hangs out with people outside of school, when he said Mu Zhengxi was a friend, everyone automatically categorized him as someone from the "outside world" group. It's just that this "outside world" guy is quite handsome today.
Mu Zhengxi, who wasn't wearing a school uniform, didn't seem particularly strange or out of place on this occasion. Some people were wearing custom-made class uniforms, while others had changed into their own sportswear because the competition was about to start.
Mu Zhengxi greeted him all the way, "You know most of the people in this school?"
Zhang Chao chuckled twice.
Although his academic performance wasn't great, he inherited his excellent interpersonal skills from his parents, who owned a supermarket. He could even chat with dogs on the street.
We arrived at the classroom.
Mu Zhengxi's first concern was, "Jiang Jiawei, where will you sit?"
"Me? I'll sit here."
The sixth desk in the first row, the rightmost and leftmost desks in their class are single desks, and Mu Zhengxi thinks this homeroom teacher has a very good idea.
The wooden tabletop was clean, but upon closer inspection, there were still some girlish touches on it—those letters followed by a big heart were clearly suspicious! Mu Zhengxi looked down, his eyes wide, and saw some incoherent, cheesy phrases.
Don't make a big fuss about things that have no future. And what's with the saying "you'll always meet someone worth it"? Is this a failed crush or something?
Alas, Mu Zhengxi felt as if a pot of water had boiled in his head, and his ears and nose were steaming.
Okay, very good.
"Jiang Jiawei".
Mu Zhengxi grabbed the man's shoulder, pointed to the table, and stammered angrily, "What's wrong with you? What do you mean by this? You wrote this on the table?!"
"Oh, this? I didn't write it. I don't know who wrote it."
Mu Zhengxi saw that she had a smile on her face and looked very composed.
"You're not lying to me?"
"Really?" Jiang Jiawei looked down at herself. "How could I say something like that?"
This doesn't resemble Jiang Jiawei's handwriting at all.
Mu Zhengxi: "It's disgusting."
Don't talk about people like that.
Mu Zhengxi shut his mouth, but the expression on his face clearly said that was indeed the case.
"How many tables does the class representative need to move?"
Six.
Where's the chair?
"We'll take the chairs, take as many as we can." Jiang Jiawei took out sticky notes and transparent tape from the drawer. "Wait a minute, let's mark everyone first, otherwise we'll get mixed up and not be able to find them later."
Just as Mu Zhengxi was about to check it carefully again, Jiang Jiawei called him.
"Help me move the table."
"Okay."
"Can you carry two by yourself?"
"You underestimate me?"
Jiang Jiawei still felt a little uneasy.
"I'm afraid it might fall accidentally and hit your foot."
"impossible."
"Then be careful."
"I know~"
Zhang Chao, standing nearby, said cheekily, "Class monitor, I still have a chair on my desk too~"
Jiang Jiawei simply took the chair off him, saying, "I've got it for you."
Mu Zhengxi kicked him.
Jiang Jiawei: "Be careful, you guys."
Chen Jingyu looked at Jiang Jiawei, who was dawdling in her seat for no apparent reason.
"Jiajia, let's go."
"Coming right away."
The writing in the upper left corner of the desk was erased by correction fluid, becoming a blurry mess that was unrecognizable.
