Chapter 17
Mu Zhengxi brought back several rows of Wahaha drinks, along with a handful of chewing gum. "Jiang Jiawei, let's have another competition." He was determined to decide who was better.
It seems they're still not convinced by the result of their last bubble-blowing attempt.
"That has to be fair."
Mu Zhengxi generously stated that he wouldn't take advantage of her, saying, "I'll give you three yuan."
"Two and a half yuan per person."
Chen Jingyu looked at Jiang Jiawei, who was unpacking and breaking apart the chewing gum, with a puzzled expression. "What are you doing?"
"He wants to have a bubble-blowing contest with me."
"Aren't you guys being a bit childish?" Chen Jingyu said, then asked, "Is there any more? I want to play too."
Here you go, you can only eat two and a half pieces.
Mu Zhengxi: "Are you done yet?"
"OK".
Zhang Chao: "Hey, what are you doing?"
Mu Zhengxi was focused on chewing gum.
Jiang Jiawei peeked over and spoke to Zhang Chao.
"Let's have a bubble-blowing contest."
Zhang Chao couldn't believe that Mu Zhengxi could do such a thing. "How childish! Damn, no way, I want to do it too."
Jiang Jiawei then handed the rest of Chen Jingyu's food to Zhang Chao, saying, "Two and a half pieces. She tore this half apart; she didn't bite it with her mouth."
A four-person melee.
The basketball game suddenly disappeared from my sight.
They blew until their cheeks ached, and eventually, disgusted by each other, they resorted to physical fouls, which angered the people behind them. Only then did the competition stop, ending with no winner or loser.
When drinking AD calcium, under Mu Zhengxi's "violent" dismantling, the outer film was torn apart, and the round bottles scattered and rolled out. He turned his head and saw that Jiang Jiawei was holding a whole row of them, like harmonicas, as were Zhang Chao and Chen Jingyu.
He looks rather unimpressive when he holds a single bottle.
"How did you do that?"
"Um?"
Jiang Jiawei turned to look at him, puzzled.
"This is it."
Mu Zhengxi gestured to the AD calcium in her hand.
Jiang Jiawei understood and smiled, her eyes crinkling, "You're so stupid, you can't even do this."
"What do you mean I'm stupid! I just accidentally used too much force!"
Mu Zhengxi rummaged through the bags, wanting to prove himself again, only to find that after distributing them one row per person, they were all gone. Damn, he should have just bought a whole box.
Jiang Jiawei pulled out the straw she was using and said, "Here, this is for you."
Mu Zhengxi snorted, trying to save face, "I like to drink it in smaller portions."
The competition has reached a fever pitch.
Class 5, which was slow to get into the game, finally found their rhythm at the start of the second half.
Mu Zhengxi realized that Jiang Jiawei didn't understand basketball games. Most of the time, she listened to gossip, and her eyes would follow whoever was mentioned. Then, she would glance at whoever scored.
Mu Zhengxi asked Zhang Chao, "Your class has formed teams too?"
"Of course, every class has to participate."
Mu Zhengxi recalled the poor boy Miao Miao he saw on the playground that day, no more than fifteen of them, each with thin, slender legs like a flamingo.
"Do you... have anyone who can choose?"
"Haha, I just randomly picked a few players I usually play with. It's all about participation," Zhang Chao said. "But our Class 15 has several athletes who are really strong. We'll be relying on them to carry the liberal arts class."
"By the way, why aren't you studying anymore?"
Mu Zhengxi glanced at the person and said, "You actually believed him when he was lying?"
"...Where do you go to school?"
"In other cities."
“And you still travel back and forth every weekend.” Zhang Chao shook his head, gave a thumbs up, and said, “I admire you, Brother Xi.” He leaned closer to Mu Zhengxi, winked and grinned mischievously, “Brother, a lot of people are watching you.”
Mu Zhengxi, biting his straw, said, "Boring."
"Haha, I know you're a big shot to our class representative—"
"Hey! Hey! Hey!"
"Okay, okay." Zhang Chao made a zipper-shutting motion.
Mu Zhengxi quickly looked at Jiang Jiawei next to him. She was sitting up straight with her neck stretched out like a goose, looking around at something. Then she suddenly lowered her head and laughed while shaking her shoulders.
"Sigh, if you were in our class, winning this competition would be a sure thing. If you ask me, a class like ours, which is weak and outnumbered, should be given the privilege of inviting outside help..."
Mu Zhengxi followed her gaze and saw only men. So what was she laughing at?
Zhang Chao: "Brother, are you even listening to me?"
Mu Zhengxi: "Jiang Jiawei."
Zhang Chao: "Okay, you're not listening."
The person who was called out by name in a calm voice looked over in surprise, "Huh?"
Mu Zhengxi questioned, "What are you looking at?"
The person who blinked blatantly lied, "I saw the scores were X to X."
"Who are you kidding? What are you laughing at when you see the score?"
Jiang Jiawei looked around, leaned closer, tilted her head, and covered her mouth with her hand, saying, "Chen Jingyu said that the boy on the other side is their substitute."
Mu Zhengxi followed her in a lowered voice, "Which one?"
"That's the one, number 5, whose hairstyle looks like a rooster's comb. When he plays basketball, he flaps his arms like a fighting rooster, but he can't outflank the other players, hahaha."
As Jiang Jiawei spoke, she couldn't help but laugh, her breath tickling her ear.
After finishing his story, he burst into laughter and fell onto Chen Jingyu, who was standing next to him.
Mu Zhengxi glanced at it and thought the description was really accurate; that guy's physique was indeed like four sticks supporting a chicken frame.
Chen Jingyu was speechless, finding her expression even funnier. "Jiang Jiawei, are you sick? Is it really that funny?"
"No, what you just said, what you just said, that tone was so funny, hahaha."
"Yes or no???"
Jiang Jiawei laughed until tears streamed down her face, seeking validation from Mu Zhengxi.
The person biting the straw nodded.
"What should I do? My stomach hurts so much," Jiang Jiawei said. "I can't take it anymore."
Chen Jingyu: "Close your eyes."
"I need to take a break."
Jiang Jiawei bent down, and Mu Zhengxi's uncontrollable laughter made her burst out laughing again.
What are you doing?
Chen Jingyu looked at the two people who were acting crazy, then looked past them as they bent over and met the eyes of the bewildered Zhang Chao. She shook her head and mouthed a message.
"They're both sick."
The smile didn't stop until someone on the field got injured.
During the scramble, a player from Class 3 fell to the ground, seemingly twisting his ankle.
Mu Zhengxi quickly stood up, squeezed into the crowd, and skillfully helped the classmate take off his shoes to check him, just like an orthopedic surgeon. "It's nothing, it should just be a minor sprain. Do you have any ice water?"
Yes, yes, yes.
"here."
Do you have towels?
Chen Jingyu was surprised, "Your friend? A doctor??"
"He plays football, so he's probably more familiar with this kind of injury."
"Hey, where's the PE teacher?"
"I don't know, wasn't it just here a moment ago?"
“There it is, I’m here.”
The injured student was helped aside to rest for a while, and his teammates applied ice to him according to the method taught by Mu Zhengxi. The game resumed as normal.
PE teacher: "Student, you handled that very well. Hey, you're not from our school, are you?"
"I came with my friend."
Zhang Chao stepped forward, half-standing on tiptoe to put his arm around Mu Zhengxi's shoulder, saying, "This is my friend, my friend." He perfectly exemplified what it means to feel honored to be associated with someone.
Mu Zhengxi stepped out of the crowd.
Jiang Jiawei stood alone by the basketball court.
Where is your classmate?
"She had a piano lesson tonight and left first. Shall we go too?"
Mu Zhengxi nodded and waved to Zhang Chao.
Do you often sprain your ankle?
"No, not really. I've seen it a lot in football teams, so I know how to handle it."
Jiang Jiawei glanced at the wound on his face.
The lights came on at the convenience store.
Jiang Jiawei went in and bought new AD calcium milk.
Jiang Jiawei taught him to push out the pointed end of the straw so that he could get a complete row.
"Jung-hee".
"Um?"
"Come to my house for dinner."
Jiang Jiawei said, "It's very late to get home now, why don't you have dinner at my house before you go back? Your grandma will agree, right?"
"She... probably will, but..."
"Let's go then."
Jiang Jiawei walked ahead.
Jung-hee?
Jung-hee?
Zhengxi.
This seems to be the first time Jiang Jiawei has called him by his name, without his surname.
My brain seemed to be controlled by some kind of command, and unconsciously followed behind her.
"dad."
"Jiajia is back."
"Jung-hee is having dinner at our house tonight."
"Okay," Jiang Weichao said. "Can we have noodles for dinner?"
Hello, Uncle.
"Jung-hee's here! Uncle, after you finish cooking, can we have noodles for dinner?"
Mu Zhengxi, standing to the side, scratched his head and said, "Thank you for your help."
"Don't say it's troublesome. If you go home, come visit often. Jia Yi really likes you." Jiang Weichao looked up and then noticed, "What happened to your face?"
"I got injured while playing football."
"Has the medicine been applied?"
"It's already on."
"You'd better be careful."
"Hmm~"
Jiang Weichao went upstairs to cook, while Jiang Jiawei stayed downstairs to mind the shop. The game of checkers that had ended inconclusively last time was restarted because Jiang Jiayi wasn't there.
They went down a few steps.
"Do you want to eat a duck leg?" Jiang Jiawei asked herself, "Let's each have a duck leg."
After taking the duck leg, he asked, "Would you like a drink?"
"Jiang Jiawei, can you please play chess seriously?"
"Do you want Fanta, Sprite, or Coke?"
"Cola."
"Okay." Jiang Jiawei took two bottles of drinks out of the refrigerator. "Open mine for me."
Mu Zhengxi reached out and twisted the bottle cap open for her.
Jiang Jiawei quickly took back her move.
"Hey Jiang Jiawei! You're cheating!"
"No, I just misread it."
"..."
Mu Zhengxi handed her the drink.
"Thanks."
"Tch... So polite, then I'll have dinner at your house."
"Because I'm polite."
"Should I say thank you too?"
Jiang Jiawei nodded with a smile as she drank her soda.
"Thank you for treating me to dinner, Jiang Jiawei."
"Hiccup... You're welcome."
"Wait, wasn't this food cooked by your dad?"
"The noodles are here, Jiajia, please place them on the table."
"good."
The broth is made from shrimp heads, and the side dishes are cabbage and carrots. The ingredients include clams, shrimp, and oysters, making it a seafood noodle dish with a mixed bag of marine life.
"Wow, they have my favorite clams!"
"Yes, eat up."
Jiang Weichao helped Mu Zhengxi make noodles, a bowl full of seafood.
"Would you like some preserved egg rolls? Daddy will cut some for you, okay?"
Jiang Jiawei slurped her noodles and nodded vigorously.
"Jung-hee, what would you like to eat? How about duck heart? Or duck head? What do you want?"
"I want to eat that spicy lotus root."
"good."
Jiang Weichao opened a bottle of ice-cold beer and watched his two children eat with satisfaction. Suddenly, he remembered, "I wonder if my younger brother has eaten dinner yet?" With that, he took out his phone and called a friend.
Jiang Jiawei: "Have they eaten?"
"They're eating now; they're grilling fish."
Jiang Weichao said with a smile, "My younger brother heard that Zhengxi came back and said he regretted going fishing."
Mu Zhengxi: "I'll do it next week—"
Next week won't work.
He's going to participate in a physics competition next week.
"I'll be back the week after next."
"How about I make you some shredded chicken next time you come back?"
"Really?!"
"Why would I lie to you?" Jiang Jiawei raised her bottle. "Come on, let's have a toast, the three of us."
"cheers!"
"cheers!"
Autumn is beautiful.
The cool breeze is nice.
Iced drinks are also good.
Hot seafood noodles are especially good.
