Chapter 2
The road was covered with fallen leaves, which flew up in the wind as cars drove over them.
Autumn came early this year.
"Jiang Jiawei".
Mu Zhengxi had no interest in appreciating the autumn scenery. He frowned and muttered those three words for what seemed like the umpteenth time, tapping his fingers on the windowsill.
The doorbell rang urgently, and a loud, penetrating voice came from inside.
"Wait a mininute."
After Mu Zhengxi paced back and forth at the door for a few minutes, Minxia, who had been taking care of Jiang Wenqing for many years, came and opened the door.
"Jung-hee".
"Sister Xia."
The person who greeted them rushed into the house, forgetting to even change their shoes.
"Teacher Jiang is on the balcony. We just changed her clothes."
Just as I reached the doorway, I turned and hurried toward the balcony.
"Wenqing!"
Minxia asked, "I'm going to make some fruit puree for Teacher Jiang, and also get you a glass of juice?"
"Wenqing, you'd never guess what's happened to me these past few days—"
"Jung-hee?"
"ah?"
"Shall I make you a glass of juice?"
"Oh, thank you, Sister Xia."
Minxia looked at the unfortunate child who was behaving strangely again, shook her head, and walked towards the kitchen.
Sitting upright in a rattan chair, wearing a maroon cardigan, Jiang Wenqing stared straight ahead with unwavering eyes, completely unaffected by Mu Zhengxi, who was excitedly recounting the bizarre events he had experienced over the past three days with both hands, as if he were a conductor.
Unable to get any guidance from Professor Jiang, Mu Zhengxi had no choice but to think for himself. He paced back and forth with his hands on his hips, muttering to himself. Suddenly, he had a flash of inspiration, snapped his fingers, and ran to the study.
The neatly organized bookshelves made it easy to find what I needed. I also picked up the glasses that were placed on the desk, and went back to the balcony. I first took out the glasses and put them on Jiang Wenqing, while Mu Zhengxi sat next to her and opened the detailed atlas to search for something.
"Changqing County, Nanshan City..."
Holy crap, this place really exists!
After speaking, Mu Zhengxi reflexively slapped his mouth, quickly admitting his mistake, "I was wrong, I'm sorry." He then picked up the atlas and almost shoved it at Jiang Wenqing's face, "Look, it really is there!!!"
"Wenqing, look!!"
"Oh no, no way, really?!"
Minxia, who was carrying a tray, looked at Mu Zhengxi, who had been jumping around since he entered the room, and asked with concern, "What's wrong?" She lowered the old lady's rattan chair a little and tucked a clean bib into her chest.
"Isn't today Wednesday? Why isn't school today?"
After calmly gulping down a glass of juice, Mu Zhengxi pursed his lips, swallowed, and then answered, "I was fired."
Minxia turned around, "Huh? What happened?"
The person involved said nonchalantly, "There was a fight."
"Again with Chen Haosen from the Chen family?"
Mu Zhengxi nodded.
Minxia had heard Professor Jiang curse Chen Haosen's name no less than eight hundred times since Mu Zhengxi entered high school.
"Why are they fighting again???"
Mu Zhengxi put his hands on his hips and said, "He's bad at cooking but loves to start fights. Chen Haosen is a coward. If his mother doesn't teach him a lesson, I will."
Even though he has grown to over 1.8 meters tall, he is still a child at heart, full of unrefined recklessness.
Minxia pushed the syringe and smiled, "Teacher Jiang, look at Zhengxi, he has the same temper as you, what are we going to do?"
Minxia asked with concern, "Then what about going to school? What did your dad say?"
"That's not the point right now."
"Isn't that the main point?"
Mu Zhengxi held up the atlas, pointed to a point in the south on the map with his finger, and raised an eyebrow, saying, "This is the key point."
Dreaming is not unusual, but a dream that is so detailed that it perfectly matches many details in reality is truly intriguing. No one can remain unmoved after learning about the existence of their future partner, especially at the age of sixteen or seventeen when the hormones of adolescence are so raging that even a dog in heat would run away.
Thanks to Jiang Wenqing's teachings, Mu Zhengxi was also a man of action. He used a specific location to land at Lianhua Airport in Nanshan City on the first morning flight the next day.
Changqing County No. 3 Middle School.
Mu Zhengxi arrived at the location after getting off the plane at around 1 a.m. He found a hotel nearby and checked in. The next day, he arrived at the school gate with dark circles under his eyes.
The breakfast shop across the street from the school is clean and tidy, and also has a very good view.
"boss."
"Hello, is anyone home?"
The sound came from the corner staircase in the store.
"They're here, they're here."
"What would you like to order, handsome?"
Looking at the abundant breakfast options in front of him, Mu Zhengxi swallowed hard. This journey of deciphering the mystery was only one step away from being completed. He had been working hard all night and his stomach was really hungry. He pointed to each item like he was inspecting troops, trying out each one he hadn't seen before or hadn't tasted before.
"Okay, please come in and have a seat."
Looking up, I saw a man in front of me wearing a simple black T-shirt and jeans. His exposed arms revealed smooth muscle lines and his face bore a resemblance to Aaron Kwok.
Even Mu Zhengxi, who considered himself to have seen plenty of handsome men and beautiful women, had to admit that he was amazed.
This small county is truly a place where hidden talents and outstanding people reside; it's no wonder he chose it.
Mu Zhengxi finally felt a little relieved. He had forgotten about his wife's appearance, which had been the most important thing on his mind. In his opinion, his wife's appearance was definitely not bad.
My inner joy increased even more. I went inside, found a spot near the door, and twisted my neck a couple of times, which I thought was stiff from a stiff neck. The clean, bright glass window reflected my face. Although my dark circles were a bit heavy because I hadn't slept well, it was okay. My baseball cap covered it up and my good looks were still there. It was just a pity that I couldn't show off the haircut I had specially gotten before coming.
The meal was served quickly.
"Hey boss, can I ask you something?"
"you say."
What time does school end?
"You mean noon?"
Mu Zhengxi was caught off guard by the shovelful of steamed dumplings that were shoved into his mouth too quickly and was burned. He nodded with tears in his eyes.
"In the afternoon, it's usually around 11:45."
"Okay, thank you."
The owner, who resembled Aaron Kwok, smiled and reminded him, "It's a bit hot, be careful." He then brought him a glass of cold water.
"I'm upstairs. Call me if you need anything."
"Okay, okay."
Good weather, good food, good mood.
Mu Zhengxi thoroughly enjoyed his brunch.
More people came into the store.
"Isn't your father in the store?"
The woman in the blue dress looked around, saw the customer by the window, and called out, "Handsome guy."
Mu Zhengxi, who was engrossed in eating, naturally raised his head from the bowl of soy milk.
"Is the shopkeeper not here?"
He swallowed the fried rice cake in his mouth, pointed upwards, and said, "Upstairs." He glanced at the girl in school uniform sitting on a chair behind the woman. Her face and lips were pale, and she looked unwell.
Hearing the noise, Jiang Weichao came downstairs. "Excuse me, I was fixing a light bulb upstairs. Would you like something to eat?"
"Hello, are you Jiang Jiawei's father?"
"Oh yes, it's me. What's wrong?" Jiang Weichao rushed over upon hearing his daughter's name. "Jiajia? What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? What happened?"
"Hello, Jiawei's father. I'm the homeroom teacher of the class next to Jiawei's. She suddenly felt dizzy during her lab class and was taken to the infirmary. The school doctor said it was heatstroke. We've already given her some Huoxiang Zhengqi Water, so please don't worry. It was the last class of the day, so I brought her back first."
"Thank you for your trouble, teacher. You've worked so hard."
Jiawei? That name sounds so familiar.
Mu Zhengxi thought to himself.
Jiawei?
Jiang Jiawei!
Mu Zhengxi choked on a mouthful of soy milk and quickly grabbed a tissue to cover his mouth, but unfortunately, coughing is not something that can be controlled by will. The sound of him coughing so loudly that it felt like his lungs were about to burst out attracted the attention of the other three people.
The instant their eyes met, it was as if an electric current had flowed through a series circuit, causing a snowy screen to appear in his brain. Mu Zhengxi's eyes widened, and the next second, as if his buttocks had been burned, he sprang up and ran out the door.
This action startled all three of them.
Jiang Weichao was the first to come to his senses. His daughter was the priority. "Can you stand up? Or should Daddy carry you upstairs to rest?"
Jiang Jiawei shook her head. "Let me rest for a bit. I'll go up by myself." She looked up and gave the teacher who brought her back a slight smile. "Thank you for bringing me back, Teacher Chen."
"What are you saying? Are you still feeling unwell?"
"It's much better now."
"Okay, if you're still not feeling well this afternoon, have your dad tell Teacher Su that you need to take a day off to rest."
"Okay, thank you, teacher."
"Then the teacher will be leaving now."
Teacher Chen reached out and touched her drooping ponytail. "Jiawei's dad, I'll be going now."
"Okay, teacher, thank you for your trouble." Jiang Weichao thanked him quickly. After seeing the person to the shop entrance, he remembered something, quickly packed some pastries, and stuffed them onto the teacher's motorcycle.
A twenty-yuan note fell out after the car started.
"Teacher Chen!"
Jiang Weichao returned to the shop, poured his daughter a glass of water, and asked, "Can you get up?"
Jiang Jiawei nodded and stood up.
"Dad will get your schoolbag."
After settling his daughter upstairs, Jiang Weichao went downstairs to tidy up the table and found that the handsome man who had suddenly left earlier had dropped his wallet on the ground.
The handsome young man who had run two miles in one breath was now leaning against the wall, panting heavily. He clung to the scorching heat of the southern city, with the blazing sun shining down directly. Even standing in the shade of the trees, it was still incredibly hot. Mu Zhengxi shook his collar and fanned himself. The short run had already made him sweat profusely.
But none of that matters.
What matters is that fleeting glimpse.
How could Mu Zhengxi, the future wife of the handsome man of Hanyang, be such a plain-looking girl?!
Close your eyes, calm down, and carefully recall the events.
Skin, not fair.
Eyes, generally large.
Hair, though long.
But his figure is skinny.
He opened his eyes, utterly despondent.
Utterly disappointed.
At a young age, a boy's primary motivation for pursuing a partner is her appearance.
Mu Zhengxi, who is a recognized handsome man among ordinary high school students, is no exception.
People who entered the convenience store next door opened the freezer, and the chilled cola served as a calming agent.
Mu Zhengxi comforted himself, "It's just a name, maybe it's just someone with the same name."
"Moreover, this is just a dream, and dreams are always the opposite of Mu Zhengxi."
"Boss, another bottle of Coke, please."
I used the coins I had just found to pay the bill, and as I was about to reach into my pocket to make up the difference, it seemed like something had disappeared from my pocket.
"Where's my wallet?!"
