0022 Rhododendron (Part 1) [Bonus Chapter for 300 Reads]

When Shu Fu and Zhan Yaoguang returned to the Shu residence, it was already late at 9 PM.

A cool breeze rose at night, rustling the flowers and leaves in front of Chunwan Tower. Shu Fu noticed that the windows had not been closed when she left, and fearing that the wind would disturb her sleep, she went and bolted them all shut.

As she closed the small window next to the door, she turned to the side and asked, "He won't just keep itching like that, will he?"

The "he" here naturally refers to Liang Zhiyan.

Zhan Yaoguang followed behind her, her mind wandering for some reason. Hearing her question, her vacant eyes finally focused.

The boy's gaze fell on the girl's rosy lips, then quickly looked away as if he had been burned.

“I know what I’m doing. Once the insect is separated from its mother, it will die within half a quarter of an hour,” he said.

Hearing him mention Gu worms again, Shu Fu couldn't help but ask a few more questions: "I've read some miscellaneous books before, which all record that the tribes of the Southern Frontier are skilled in Gu worms. These Gu worms are nourished with blood and flesh, and when used, they can change minds and turn defeat into victory. Are these all true?"

"Not entirely true either."

The ability to control Gu poison is an innate talent of the people of Southern Xinjiang, and Zhan Yaoguang is one of the best among them.

When she asked him about it, it really hit a nerve with him, so he explained with great enthusiasm: "The different tribes in the southern borderlands rely on different terrains, so the ways and uses of raising Gu worms are also different."

"But in reality, they're all pretty much the same; they're just torturous things, without any of the miraculous uses that are rumored to have. It's just that you Central Plains people rarely see them, which is why you're surprised to find them to be sinister techniques."

"Besides these harmful things, some of us also keep some cute little trinkets. For example, some mothers and grandmothers keep a few 'gu' (a type of magical potion) that gives people sweet dreams to lull the children in the family to sleep."

Shu Fu listened with great interest, then suddenly asked, "Do you have any such Gu poison on you?"

“Yes,” his eyes suddenly lit up, “how about I give you one of these as well?”

Shu Fu was naturally happy to agree, but Zhan Yaoguang had only taken two steps toward her when he suddenly stopped.

Shufu asked, "What's wrong?"

The boy looked up at her, looking rather aggrieved, and asked, "Am I trying to please you again?"

Shu Fu was puzzled, but Zhan Yaoguang couldn't explain the reason.

Ever since he met her, he seemed to be unconsciously trying to please her. He took the initiative to apply medicine to her, he took the initiative to help her get revenge on Liang Zhiyan, and he never seemed to refuse the few things she asked him to do.

He had never been so outmatched by any woman before, so he secretly vowed to get his revenge this time no matter what.

So he said, “I have already helped you once tonight, and according to the rules of our tribe, I cannot help you a second time.” He made up a non-existent rule, “unless you bring me something in exchange for this Gu.”

But Shu Fu's curiosity was piqued, and she took the initiative to ask, "Then what do you need?"

She has so many things in her room, he can just take whatever he likes.

Zhan Yaoguang lowered her eyes and looked at her without saying a word.

The boy's eyes were clear and bright, with a pure and clean light in them, so that people did not feel offended when he looked at them.

Meeting the boy's focused gaze, her heart inexplicably began to pound.

Can you kiss me?

He suddenly spoke, his tone as light and ethereal as an unpredictable breeze in the misty mountains and sky.

Shu Fu stared in shock, took a big step back, her back pressed against the cold door, and her pink cheeks flushed with heat.

Unable to speak, Zhan Yaoguang took two steps forward, lowered her voice, and said with a hint of pleading, "Give me a kiss, and I'll give you a sweet dream. You won't lose out, right?"

As the boy approached step by step, Shu Fu hurriedly raised her eyes and shouted, "What kind of conditions are these? They don't offer you any benefit whatsoever."

“But I like you,” Zhan Yaoguang said, looking directly into her eyes as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

I like it very much.

If someone doesn't know how to cherish something, then it's better to replace them.

Shufu's chaotic heartbeat suddenly stopped for a moment, and then a small flower unexpectedly sprouted.

She was both proud and shy.

This handsome young man told her he liked her, as if he would be hers if she nodded.

At that moment, the girl felt an unprecedented flutter in her heart.

Spring clouds obscure the bright moon, and a chill lingers beneath the window.

A cold breeze drifted in through the window, and the long silence made Zhan Yaoguang feel that she had been rejected by her again.

"Fine, go to sleep," he snorted a mocking syllable from his nose. "I've already planted the Gu in you. You can see whatever you want in your dreams. It won't harm your body. The Gu worm will die naturally when you wake up tomorrow morning."

He still couldn't refuse her.

Zhan Yaoguang straightened up, creating distance between herself and her. Just as she was about to turn and leave, someone unexpectedly hooked her finger.

The girl extended two slender white fingers, carefully circled his index finger, then tilted her head back and leaned closer to him.

Zhan Yaoguang was somewhat stunned, and her heart began to race.

At this moment, they were very close, their breaths mingling and their skin touching.

The boy's heartbeat amplified infinitely in her ears.

“Feifei,” she whispered, “don’t move around too much later.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Shu Fu leaned forward, stood on tiptoe, and pressed her soft, fragrant lips against the side of the boy's cheek.

It was as if a tiny cluster of flowers had gently swept across the shimmering spring scenery, yet it stirred up a tidal wave within the boy's body.

Zhan Yaoguang stood frozen in place, his scalding blood being pumped to his limbs and bones by his rapidly beating heart.

All her thoughts were focused on the same idea: she had kissed him again.

Unlike the kiss on that rainy night last time, this time she was clear-headed, unafraid of her surroundings, and didn't need to ask him for anything, yet she still kissed him.

The boy's heart skipped a beat, and a surge of intense joy welled up within him.
