0117 The Sorrowful Lord (Part Two)
Previously, the fields were desolate, with a thin, pale green layer covering both the grass and the sky, as if someone had covered them with a layer of solid ice out of thin air.
But once the sun rises, everything changes.
In the very beginning, only a very faint white mist spread across the chaotic boundary between heaven and earth, as if edged with silver. But in an instant, a small vermilion color suddenly appeared at the center of heaven and earth. The vermilion light spread wider and wider, and the pale green grass was covered in red in an instant, becoming bright and lovely as if melting away the solid ice.
She had never seen such a magnificent sight in her life. Her heart pounded, her limbs went numb, and she couldn't help but hold her breath, staring intently at the red sun.
She suddenly remembered that when she was fourteen, she had received a letter from a cousin from the Luo family in Suzhou.
That cousin was the sixth child in the Luo family. Instead of staying at home, she often accompanied her parents to travel to the Five Sacred Mountains.
One year, after finally returning to Suzhou, the family of three was not in a hurry to go home. Instead, they took advantage of the night to go for a night boat trip on Taihu Lake.
In her letter, my cousin wrote that the next morning, when the weather cleared up, she looked out from the boat hole and saw the sun rising over the water, with the lake and sky blending into one color – it was truly a sight to behold.
Shu Fu heard this and secretly kept it in her heart, always wanting to see a magnificent sunrise.
But the walls of the mansion were so high that even when she stood on the ground, straining her neck to look up, she could only catch a glimpse of the crimson light.
And at this very moment, such a red sun burst forth right before her eyes, so breathtaking, so close, almost within reach.
Shu Fu couldn't help but reach out her hand, but Zhan Yaoguang suddenly reached out and gently grasped it.
The boy moved and blocked her way.
Shu Fu immediately retorted, "You're blocking my way."
As she spoke, she moved her head, trying to peer over his shoulder again.
Zhan Yaoguang had no choice but to hold her hand out in front of her eyes again: "You can't stare directly at the sun. Although the morning sun doesn't seem as dazzling as the midday sun, you'll still feel dizzy when you get into the carriage later."
Shu Fu let out a soft "ah".
“When I was at home, I would often get up in the middle of the night and climb the mountain by myself just to see this.”
The boy leaped off the carriage shaft, a gust of wind swept by, and lush green fields stretched out endlessly behind him. He faced her, the morning light so bright that his features were indistinct.
“Watching the sunrise from the mountain is even more different. There are many high mountains in our area. When you stand on the top of the mountain and look down, the sun looks like it is jumping out of the ravine.”
Shu Fu listened to his rambling as she hugged her knees, and a bright, clear sun seemed to float before her eyes.
“Zhan Yaoguang,” she called out to him, then suddenly asked in a soft, slow voice, “Are you telling me all this because you want to take me home?”
She spoke, but immediately fell silent, her fingers unconsciously gripping her sleeve as she waited quietly for his reply.
Upon hearing these words, Zhan Yaoguang felt a slight pang in his chest. He took two steps forward, dispelling the blurred light and allowing her to see his expression more clearly.
She stared at him blankly, her heart inexplicably racing, wondering what he was going to do.
As his thoughts clashed, the boy's clear voice suddenly rang out, each word striking the ground with sharp clarity.
No, I won't take you with me.
Shufu's tense mood suddenly relaxed, and her fingers dangled from her sleeve, leaving only a few wrinkles. She felt a little lost again.
Doesn't he want to take her with him?
why is that?
"Shall I go with you?" Before she could think it through, Zhan Yaoguang suddenly raised her head, looked over again, and continued, "You don't need to come home with me. You can go wherever you want, and I'll follow you wherever you want to go!"
He thought about it for a moment, and another thought from before flashed through his mind—
He was always useful in hunting, cooking, washing, and cleaning.
Shu Fu was startled, unsure of what to feel. She only felt that the very distant red sun on the horizon suddenly leaped very high, burning into her heart and illuminating the hazy darkness before her eyes.
She couldn't help but smile slightly, a smile that seemed to bring forth sunshine, radiant and vivid, incomparably bright.
The boy's heart pounded as he watched helplessly as Shu Fu jumped out of the car.
The girl rushed into his arms and, looking up, kissed him on the chin with all her might.
"Good boy, good boy, what a wonderful young man, I like you so much."
One, two, three, four.
She praised him four times in a row and said she liked him.
A gentle breeze swept past him from all sides, making the stray hairs on his forehead sway left and right, then pattering down his cheeks, tickling him gently. It seemed as if there was nothing more delightful in the world.
His palms were burning hot, and he couldn't help but press down on her waist, about to kiss her sweet red lips.
Unexpectedly, at this moment, a whooshing sound suddenly came from a great distance away from the two of them.
Immediately afterwards, someone shouted, "Who's there!"
The two looked over and saw a man riding a horse galloping towards them.
The man, holding a whip, shouted as he rode, "No one is allowed to stay at night in Leyou Plain. Who are you two? How dare you come here in the middle of the night and disobey the official orders!"
Shu Fu glanced at Zhan Yaoguang and immediately decided, "Let's go!"
Zhan Yaoguang then wrapped his arms around her waist, pushed her onto the horse's back, hooked his arm around the stirrup, and mounted the horse himself, sitting right behind her and holding her tightly in his arms.
The wind rustled across Leyou Plain, and Zhan Yaoguang had no choice but to shout, "How about we just abandon the carriage? I'll just pay them to replace it later!"
Shufu bathed in the wind, the stray hairs on her cheeks tickling her face. She couldn't help but laugh out loud and replied in a cheerful voice, "Okay!"
For the past sixteen years, she had done many obedient and well-behaved things, but only today did she especially want to ride a horse.
Zhan Yaoguang tore open the barrier between the carriage and the horses, then suddenly remembered something, kicked open the carriage door, bent down and picked out the burnt-out lantern, stuffing it into Shu Fu's hand.
"Afu, hold this for me, we're leaving right now!"
In an instant, the two rows of indigo blue flowed freely.
The sun had risen quite high, urging a strong wind to whistle in, sneaking into the neck and then emerging from the sleeves, as if immersed in the clear, pale sunlight.
Spring breezes have swept through, how carefree and joyful!
But how could the officials assigned by the court to oversee Leyouyuan be ordinary people?
Seeing that the two men were about to flee on horseback, the man was furious. He spurred his horse and chased after them.
Zhan Yaoguang grew up in the southern border region, a place with many mountains and deep valleys, where people of different ethnic groups mostly relied on their own two legs to travel between each other. Therefore, he was not good at riding horses at all, and the little skill he had now was something he had gradually learned on his journey north.
Seeing that the man was about to approach, Shuf made a quick decision, snatched the reins from his hand, and shoved the lantern pole into his hand.
"Zhan Yaoguang, hold the lamp ready, and call me to take the reins!"
