Chapter 6 The Lost Transparent Wall

Chapter 6 The Lost Transparent Wall

At noon, Jiang Xinglan ran into Shen Yuheng, who was wearing sunglasses and a mask, while having lunch at the hotel restaurant.

Jiang Xinglan looked around. Although it was October and the temperature difference between day and night might be a bit large, he didn't see anyone else wrapped up so tightly in the middle of the day like him.

Jiang Xinglan hadn't originally planned to remind her.

But with more and more eyes focused on Shen Yuheng, she couldn't resist and took out her phone to send him a message:

"I'm sorry, this was a bit abrupt, but isn't it a bit like you're trying to cover something up?"

Shen Yuheng felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He thought it was a message from Brother Wei. After finding a seat and ordering food, he took out his phone to check.

Upon seeing JXL displayed on the screen, Shen Yuheng immediately sat up straight, took several deep breaths, and then tapped on his phone.

Jiang Xinglan, standing in the distance, watched Shen Yuheng's series of actions with a puzzled expression.

Is this a special ritual for actors after receiving the news? Or is it a side effect of filming too many movies?

Jiang Xinglan didn't understand, but she respected it.

After reading Jiang Xinglan's message, Shen Yuheng realized that his outfit did indeed attract some attention.

He quickly scanned his surroundings, and when his gaze fell on Jiang Xinglan, he saw her looking puzzled.

I hope she saw everything I just did!

Shen Yuheng forced himself to remain calm, looked away, and began rapidly tapping on his phone.

Jiang Xinglan's phone vibrated.

Shen Yuheng: "I was originally only wearing sunglasses, but I think I have a bit of a cold, so I put on a mask."

Out of a slight sense of guilt, Jiang Xinglan recommended the medicine she would take when she had a cold.

Shen Yuheng: "Thank you, Teacher Jiang. Please remember to keep warm these next few days."

After replying, Shen Yuheng tapped the screen a few more times before finally pressing send.

Shen Yuheng: "There are some delicious dishes here. Would you like me to recommend them to Teacher Jiang?"

After sending the message, Shen Yuheng felt a little regretful, wondering if he had been too abrupt.

However, it seems he received a reply very quickly.

Jiang Xinglan: "No need, I've finished eating. I wish you a speedy recovery."

Although he was rejected, Shen Yuheng was still very happy.

It seems like catching a cold isn't such a bad thing?

Shen Yuheng put away his phone, memorized the name of the medicine, and went to a nearby pharmacy after finishing his meal to buy cold medicine.

"@珩星-兔叽: Brother, please keep warm! Also, did you see @磕学者's post? Please reply!"

"@Hengxingxingqiu: Take a rest!"

"@Shen Yuheng's official girlfriend: Hengbao! What that so-called 'shipping expert' said must be fake, right!"

"@KissingExpert: Did someone recommend this to you? I remember in an interview, Brother Wei said you rarely take medication!"

"@珩星-兔叽: Replying to @磕学者:! Sister, you've spotted the key point!"

Having witnessed the golden sunrise over the mountains, Jiang Xinglan's biggest wish for coming to Yuncheng was fulfilled.

After spending another day or two exploring other parts of Yuncheng and trying the local cuisine, I bought a plane ticket and went home.

Shen Yuheng learned that Jiang Xinglan had left through her WeChat Moments:

[The holiday is over. For any inquiries, please contact us directly via email.]

.

Positioning itself as the Jinghua Research Institute.

Shen Yuheng had originally wanted to have a meal with her before leaving Yuncheng, but now that plan has fallen through.

Shen Yuheng did not stay long and returned to Beijing that same day.

Afterwards, the two returned to their respective lives and work.

Although Shen Yuheng had Jiang Xinglan's contact information, he didn't dare to disturb her rashly, but would only check her WeChat Moments.

He would print out the obscure and difficult-to-understand papers she forwarded.

Although the technical jargon initially gave him a headache, he still marked the parts he didn't understand after reading them.

Then they would look up information to find the answer for themselves, and only if they still couldn't figure it out would they bother Jiang Xinglan.

Jiang Xinglan would reply and recommend a few papers to help him understand.

After two months, his folders were filled with all sorts of popular science articles and papers.

He also found that reading the articles Jiang Xinglan forwarded was much easier now.

He no longer simply gazed at the star and followed the lighthouse, but began to try to understand her starry sky.

As Shen Yuheng posted #StarTrailFragments# more and more frequently, the fans' feelings grew stronger, especially since Shen Yuheng had not given a clear response.

Instead of making any extreme remarks, most fans began to speculate about who this person was.

There's just no clue at the moment.

In addition, Shen Yuheng announced the establishment of his personal studio during this period.

The original company also generously sent its blessings and explained that it had reached a cooperative relationship with Shen Yuheng's studio.

The news surprised some fans.

But everyone was still happy for their brother, after all, everyone knew that.

Establishing a personal studio means greater freedom and a certain increase in commercial value.

Although risk tolerance may not be as high as before, risk and opportunity coexist.

With the addition of Shen Yuheng's former manager, assistant, and other team members to the studio, fans' concerns have lessened somewhat.

They then began to celebrate with great confidence.

In the blink of an eye, the first snow in Beijing has fallen, and two months have passed since my trip to Yuncheng.

During a break from filming, Shen Yuheng skillfully opened Jiang Xinglan's Moments and found that she had updated her status five minutes earlier.

"A lecture on 'The Regulatory Role of SER3 Gene Silencing on Neuronal Synaptic Homeostasis' will be held at 12:00 noon on December 10th in the auditorium of Jinghua University. We encourage everyone to attend."

Jinghua University? Shen Yuheng remembered that he seemed to have an announcement there as well.

He opened his chat window with Wei Yu.

Wei Yu: "There's a promotional event for my new play at Peking University on the 10th. Remember to attend."

Wei Yu: "I've already arranged your leave from the film crew. It's a flight tonight, and you'll arrive in Jinghua around 11 p.m. on the 9th. I'll have the driver pick you up then."

Shen Yuheng returned to his friends list and liked Jiang Xinglan's post.

He opened Jiang Xinglan's chat window again; the last time they chatted was when she recommended a paper to him.

Shen Yuheng scrolled through the pages, and anyone who didn't know better would think they were a member of her research team.

Shen Yuheng typed a line in the dialog box, looked at it, deleted it, typed it again, and then deleted it again.

Watching Shen Yuheng's repeated actions, his assistant Xiao Chen couldn't help but complain, "Brother, are you going to send it or not?!"

Shen Yuheng abruptly raised his head, staring at Xiao Chen, "You saw it?"

"No, I didn't see anything," Xiao Chen said, pursing his lips and shaking his head. "I only saw you, Brother Chen, typing and deleting, deleting and typing, typing and deleting again. It was exhausting to watch."

Just as Shen Yuheng was about to retort, he heard someone knock on the door of the lounge.

"Teacher Shen, the props and set are all set up." A staff member came to inform us that filming could begin.

"Okay." Shen Yuheng responded, stood up, straightened his clothes, and turned around, "You just now..."

"Just now? What just now?" As the saying goes, a wise person knows when to yield. "I don't know anything!"

Having received a satisfactory answer, Shen Yuheng opened the door to the lounge, strode out, and immersed himself in filming.

At midnight, Shen Yuheng successfully arrived at his residence in Jinghua.

Thinking that he might see Jiang Xinglan tomorrow, Shen Yuheng was excited and didn't fall asleep until two or three in the morning.

At 11:30 a.m. the next day, Shen Yuheng and the other actors, led by teachers and student volunteers from Jinghua University, went to the venue for the presentation.

Along the way, Shen Yuheng saw many people hurrying in one direction.

Seeing the confusion on some people's faces, the accompanying teacher spoke up, "There is a very important research lecture at noon today, and these people should be attending it."

The crew members nodded, understanding the current situation.

"What exactly is it about?" Shen Yuheng asked.

“Oh,” the teacher, who was still feeling a little embarrassed that no one had answered her, gave Shen Yuheng a grateful look when she heard his question, “It’s about Alzheimer’s disease.”

Shen Yuheng was also a little confused by his gaze; he just wanted to learn more about Jiang Xinglan.

Before he could even ask a question, the teacher continued speaking on her own.

"The speaker is Jiang Xinglan," the teacher began to explain to the crowd, "Our Professor Jiang is only 28 years old this year, and she is already an associate professor!"

The crowd gasped in amazement, "So young?"

“Yes,” the teacher said proudly, “our teacher Jiang discovered a special change in the nervous system in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, which made early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s possible.”

"Amazing!"

Now, the person who felt honored was Shen Yuheng. No one knew how much effort he had put in to keep himself from making his presence too obvious.

"In that case, wouldn't this discovery be very meaningful?" Shen Yuheng's tone was filled with undisguised joy.

"More than that, it's a landmark discovery," the teacher explained as they walked. "You know, Alzheimer's disease is very difficult to diagnose in its early stages. If this discovery is actually applied, it will have a huge impact!"

“Otherwise, Professor Jiang wouldn’t have been promoted to associate professor at such a young age,” the teacher remarked. “She’s beautiful and capable. Every time Professor Jiang gives a lecture, it’s in the auditorium, but even so, there aren’t enough seats.”

"Moreover, it's said that many people pursue Teacher Jiang every year," the teacher in charge of the group said cheerfully.

Upon hearing this, Shen Yuheng's smile vanished instantly.

Wei Yu, who was standing beside him, turned his head and glanced at him, his eyes full of schadenfreude.

Shen Yuheng understood the meaning in Wei Yu's eyes: "I told you not to hurry up, now you're nervous, aren't you?"

Shen Yuheng looked away from Wei Yu, secretly clenching his fists.

This can't go on, we have to take action!

So, before the promotion for the new drama even started, Shen Yuheng sent Jiang Xinglan a message:

Shen Yuheng: "I'm also at Jinghua University today. I heard from your school's teachers that you're giving a presentation here today. Would you like to have dinner together afterward?"

Shen Yuheng: "Perfect timing, I have some professional questions I'd like to ask you."

After sending these two messages, Shen Yuheng visibly became uneasy.

But even though the promotion for the new play has started and I'm about to go on stage, I haven't received a reply.

Shen Yuheng handed his phone to Wei Yu, composed himself, and went on stage to cooperate with the promotion.

As one of the most popular male actors right now, Shen Yuheng's popularity is naturally high, so the atmosphere at the promotional event for his new drama was quite good, and his interaction with the audience was natural and interesting.

If the atmosphere on Shen Yuheng's side was relaxed and humorous, then the atmosphere on Jiang Xinglan's side was serious and earnest.

As Jiang Xinglan finished her speech, thunderous applause erupted from the audience.

If Jiang Xinglan can answer their questions, she will share her thoughts without reservation.

If not, I will think for a moment and then offer my opinion for discussion with everyone.

So by the time Jiang Xinglan saw the message from Shen Yuheng, six or seven hours had already passed.

Jiang Xinglan held her phone, her fingers moved slightly, and a message was sent.

At his home in Beijing, Shen Yuheng heard a special ringtone on his phone. He quickly picked it up and opened the notification:

JXL: "Sorry, I just saw it, but it's okay, thank you for the invitation."

Upon seeing this reply, Shen Yuheng's heart sank further, filled with a sense of powerlessness.

He sighed deeply and slumped onto the sofa in a dejected manner.

The teacher's words and her reply kept echoing in his mind.

He thought that through these two months of communication, although not frequent, there had at least been some progress.

But this short line of text is like a wall, clearly separating his and her world.

He could see her shining brightly under the starry sky.

But he couldn't find any door that would lead him to that world.

It turned out that the light had always been out of his reach.
