Chapter 13
"Huh? Huh! Huh! Huh! Huh!"
As Luo Le was led into the Sleica Medical Equipment Store by Feng Ran, his mind wandered to many possible reasons, but the first thing that came to mind was that they were still having an affair. If the store clerk recognized them and reported it to his father, wouldn't that be the end of them?
At the entrance, Basil tugged at Feng Ran's clothes and scurried behind her furtively: "Feng Ran, if there's anything you want to buy, you can just look at it in the virtual store, right? It wouldn't be good if I got recognized here."
Feng Ran blinked. "I'm not used to the 3D projection in the virtual store. It makes me dizzy after using it for a while. But if you're so worried, then okay, the virtual store is the same."
"No...no! It will make you uncomfortable, absolutely not!" Basil grabbed her again, stubbornly saying, "Wait a minute, I'll change my clothes a little."
He reached into his pocket, trying to pull out a mask or sunglasses, but after a while he only managed to pull out the lab shoe covers that he had crumpled into a ball. Just as he was righteously thinking of tearing two holes in them to make do, Feng Ran stopped him.
"There's no need for that. If you really mind, then wear this." Feng Ran pulled out a ring from somewhere and handed it to him.
Luo Le had seen high-tech optical cognitive barriers in TV dramas, but as far as he knew, they didn't seem to be available for sale on the market. Luo Le held the ring in his hand and looked at Feng Ran.
"Feng Ran, aren't you worried?"
"What are you worried about?" Feng Ran looked at him with clear and open eyes.
Basil licked her lips and continued, "I'm worried that if Shen Shiqian finds out about our secret relationship, he'll lock you up at home and force himself on you, or have my dad break my legs or something, then I won't be able to elope with you."
Feng Ran found it amusing, "What kind of nonsense are you thinking about all day long?"
"Alphas all have these kinds of thoughts, isn't it normal? Possessiveness, marking, and stuff like that."
The wind was closing in on him.
"Hey~ Do you have that thought too?"
Basil guiltily turned his face away, his face turning bright red. Not to mention such thoughts, he often had such dreams. In his dreams, Feng Ran was like water; he would cry as soon as he touched her, crying uncontrollably, but she would cling to him very tightly and even bite him.
Why is he thinking about such things with such a stubborn mind? He didn't even dare to look at Feng Ran's expression.
"Okay, I'll skip shopping today."
Upon hearing Feng Ran's words, Basil grabbed her own hand and, without further ado, headed upstairs.
Sleica's flagship store is on the fourth floor of the circular shopping mall, occupying almost half of the space. The fifth floor is occupied by stores selling other smart products. Feng Ran entered the private elevator to the high-end club on the sixth floor without even looking at it.
Basil's face turned even redder in an instant.
Feng Ran gave the front desk her membership number, "The private room is located at the back. No one is allowed to enter until the service bell is rung."
The receptionist, unfazed, smiled and said, "Okay, we've registered you for room number nine. Turn left at the far end."
Basil watched from the sidelines, unable to stop him, but perhaps he was secretly hoping for it and had no intention of intervening? He knew that Feng Ran's true temper might not be the best, but he didn't expect him to be so forceful.
When he was dragged into the private room and pinned against the door, Basil felt like his brain was so hot it could fry a whole Wellington steak! The sound of boiling and sizzling fat couldn't compare to the pounding of his heart, which was like a construction crew living in the room—it was terrifying!
Feng Ran looked at him intently, and said with a charming smile, "Young Master, what do you want to do?"
Basil felt like he was dying of heat, while Feng Ran was like a natural air conditioner emitting a cool and refreshing aura. Frustrated and angry, he lunged at her, but accidentally knocked her down. Before falling onto the carpet, he instinctively hugged Feng Ran tightly to protect her.
With a muffled thud, he fell to the ground beneath Feng Ran.
Ahhh! He's going crazy!
Feng Ran sat on him, slowly leaning down to get closer, his long hair falling down, and his vision suddenly became dim.
"Tell me, please? Basil, what do you think of me? And what should I do?"
The aroma is intoxicating, it's too close.
Basil's eyes reddened with shame and indignation. In desperation, he stuck out his tongue like a kitten and mumbled, "Kiss me."
Does Alpha have possessiveness and a desire to mark others?
Feng Ran squinted, savoring the tangy and sweet taste between her lips and teeth. Basil let out a pleading whimper under her suppression, and the lavender fragrance became even more intense.
She never really felt like an Alpha, nor did she have the kind of crazy, primal emotions and thoughts driven by reproductive impulses that Basil described.
But she couldn't help wanting to touch Basil. After a simple exchange of blows, seeing that this person's heart and eyes were full of her, his passionate and boiling love overflowed, mending the emptiness and brokenness that Feng Ran had always felt, making her feel incredibly warm and comfortable.
"Ugh, hiss..."
Feng Ran stood up with a wrinkled face, looking at Luo Le with some dissatisfaction: "You bit me."
Basil hurriedly got up from the ground, still catching his breath. His eyes were moist, and he looked even more aggrieved than Feng Ran. "You touched my mark tooth." But being bitten by the mark tooth must have hurt a lot, so he still obediently apologized: "I'm sorry, does it hurt a lot?"
"It seems okay, there's no bleeding."
Feng Ran leaned closer to him to smell the unnatural pheromone scent emanating from him, resting his head on Basil's shoulder, his eyes full of bright smiles.
"What's wrong? Do you want to bite me?"
The marking teeth only protrude when an Alpha wants to mark its mate. The more pheromones are secreted, the harder the sharp, protruding canines become.
Young Master Basil blushed all over. Hearing Feng Ran's lewd remarks, he turned his head away, feeling utterly ashamed and embarrassed.
Feng Ran unbuttoned the top of her shirt, revealing a section of her beautiful, slender neck. She brushed her long hair to one side, smiled, and winked. "Okay."
Basil was on the verge of tears. His head was spinning and his blood was boiling from his lover's deliberate instigation. He was like a contradictory bomb on the verge of exploding. His only remaining rationality told him that he couldn't have his precious first time with Feng Ran in a place like this. He would definitely regret it for the rest of his life when he looked back on it.
Young Master Basil angrily grabbed his expensive white T-shirt, tearing several holes in it, seemingly harboring a great deal of resentment.
Feng Ran suddenly understood; the young master felt he had lost face today and didn't want to bite her like that.
"Alright, alright, young master is really hard to please."
Feng Ran gave up, turned her head to reach for his neck, and snuggled tightly into his arms, enjoying the usual intimacy she loved most.
Basil hugged her back. His heart was pounding like a drum, and the booming vibrations were transmitted to Feng Ran. Feng Ran even felt as if it was her own heart beating.
Possessiveness? It seems to be something like that.
If you were to elope with the fastidious Basil Master, it seems you would indeed have to worry about a lot of fancy things.
After being polite enough, Young Master Basil became considerate again. Since they couldn't go to physical stores or browse virtual malls, he still had other ways to help Feng Ran, after all, he was Sleika.
Basil easily obtained the product catalog of the offline specialty store through internal access. He projected the screen of the terminal onto Feng Ran, feeling incredibly awesome: "Look, it looks the same from here. Just select whatever you want."
Feng Ran looked at him with a beaming smile: "Our young master is really amazing~"
Seeing that Basil was glaring at her resentfully and not saying anything, she then began to carefully examine what she wanted.
Although she decided to stop taking the medication, not taking it herself and not conducting research are two different things. Feng Ran had some ideas about the physical surgery field that Xing Tong mentioned, but the scale of the operation was too large, so she didn't want to do it for the time being. On the contrary, research on drugs was even more scarce and urgently needed.
However, she has always used synthetic drugs to prepare medicines, so researching the extraction and synthesis of new drug components would be a completely new field for her.
Fengran: "What are the differences between the C7 and C9 models of the separator?"
Basil: "The C9 is a new model with stronger overall functionality. It is mainly aimed at hospitals and school laboratories and can also separate tissues from different animal cells. The C7 is more focused on the separation and research of plant tissue cells. It has two more collection boxes than the C9 and a cryo-fluid equipment port. More professional scientific research laboratories will use this one."
"The C7 seems to be a size bigger than the C9. Are there any smaller sizes available?"
"Uh, it does seem a bit big, but we don't have any other sizes. Too big or too small would affect the operation and precision."
Seeing Feng Ran engrossed in selecting equipment again, Luo Le couldn't help but ask curiously, "Do you want to buy research equipment? Our company doesn't have many products in this area. We only have some common types on the market, similar to those in school labs. Research equipment is basically custom-made by large manufacturers."
"I can also recommend our partner factory to you, but those machines are mostly large and require separate intelligent systems. If you want to do any research, just tell me directly, or you can come directly to our lab..."
It suddenly realized: "Ah! Ours might not work, my dad will find out, but I can get Chris to set up a decent one for me at Rozelite's factory..."
Basil was very attentive in this regard, but he was never indifferent when it came to anything related to Feng Ran. However, Basil always seemed to be like this, always actively and enthusiastically supporting Feng Ran's various decisions, but never asking her why.
Basil seemed to know that Feng Ran was afraid of being questioned. Even though he knew so many of Feng Ran's secrets, he never asked about any of them. He just smiled and said all the time, "Do you want to do this? Then I want to do it too."
Feng Ran occasionally wanted to tell Luo Le everything, and wanted to show him his medical report, but he was always worried that he might scare Luo Le, make him lose his smile, and make him spend every day in worry.
Listening to Basil chattering away about how he was going to mess with his cousin, Feng Ran's worries lessened a bit, but he still cautiously probed.
"I want to conduct experiments on the synergistic effects of mental strength and drugs."
Basil's expression turned strange for a moment, but she quickly became excited again: "Ahhh! I also want to do research in this area, but my cousin probably won't lend us the land. He's worried I'll research banned drugs, tsk."
"Banned drugs?"
"They say it's a drug that the Ombudsman is currently investigating. It can help people break through physical barriers during secondary differentiation, but it will cause physical exhaustion after differentiation. The Ombudsman considers it a dangerous banned drug. However, I'm quite curious about its mechanism of action. I feel it might be helpful to our research."
Feng Ran looked at him, resting his chin on his hand. "No way. The monitoring agency's detection system is the type that uses comprehensive average value analysis. If the banned drug only needs to raise the physique to two or more levels in a short period of time, the detection system will automatically take the average value to judge that there has been an improvement and breakthrough in both his physique and mental strength. In reality, his mental strength has not changed."
Basil frowned upon hearing this: "Is it really that sloppy?"
Feng Ran: "It's alright. After all, the match between physical constitution and mental strength is perfect. If either one is too prominent, it will be devastating to the body's health. So they didn't expect there to be a medicine that only enhances one aspect. How about it, are you a little disappointed?"
Improving physical strength requires the coordination and support of mental strength. It is perfectly normal to fall into physical exhaustion due to insufficient mental strength. In fact, the rare physical exhaustion diseases we see today are all due to this congenital reason. Conversely, if mental strength is too strong and there is no corresponding physical support, the result will be nerve compression and necrosis, leading directly to brain death.
Basil nodded. "A little."
Feng Ran: "Don't be discouraged. I have two pieces of news, one not so good and one not so bad. Which one do you want to hear?"
"Of course I don't want to hear bad things."
"Okay, the good news is that there probably are drugs that can help you achieve a breakthrough in physical constitution, but no one has figured them out yet."
"What kind of good news is this?"
"Why not? Don't you want to know? I do have some medicine that specifically enhances mental strength."
Basil's face turned pale as she thought of something. Without a word, she got up from her seat and came over to hug her tightly, as if she wanted to hold Feng Ran back.
"Feng Ran, don't take that medicine."
Feng Ran blinked, and tears welled up in her eyes for some reason. The hole in her heart seemed to be filled again, and the warmth felt so intense that it seemed to burn new holes into the new, soft shell. Her voice was a little unhappy.
"What? How do you know everything?"
There's a reason why Young Master Basil likes to be presentable; now his white T-shirt is not only ripped but also covered in Feng Ran's tears.
"Absolutely, absolutely not, you must not take that medicine!"
What if I secretly eat it?
"Then I'll bite you to death!"
"All right."
Basil was momentarily confused about which "good" she meant, and her face darkened as she snapped at her, "What's so good about it? You're not allowed to eat it, that's all! Do you hear me?!"
Feng Ran composed himself and winked at him, "Young Master, there's more bad news."
Basil asked dryly, "What?"
"The exhibition we're going to this afternoon has that kind of banned drug that the Control Yuan is investigating."
"Although it has no effect on mental strength, I am still quite curious about the potent ingredients in it. But who knows, maybe they are not skilled enough to bring out the effect of the enhancement factor."
Basil was in a mess.
"Ugh! I already told you I don't want to hear it!"
