Chapter 3
On Monday, Feng Ran went to school as usual. She had another sleepless night and had a strange dream just before dawn. When she woke up, she couldn't remember anything, but her heart was throbbing with pain. She listlessly went through the day's classes, trying to maintain a professional image for her classmates. It wasn't until Luo Le stormed into the classroom that she remembered that her weekend date had been switched at the last minute.
Fortunately, the energy star transaction between the Feng family and the Sleica family was not something that could be discussed openly, and Shen Shiqian's ideas were always kept low-key. No one in the school knew about the complicated relationship between the three of them. Luo Le couldn't make a scene in front of others, so he could only find an excuse to call Feng Ran out alone.
Feng Ran was always known for her intellectual and elegant demeanor, as well as her striking beauty and the attention she received. Luo Le blushed and told her to leave, while her friends watched with smiles on their faces.
The students were used to this kind of thing. At first it was the Omega, then the Beta, and finally the Alpha fell for her. Feng Ran was just too attractive. It wasn't just her appearance; she herself was even more outstanding and powerful. She was kind and gentle to people, but she also had a faint aura that kept her at a distance from everyone, making people afraid to disrespect her.
They casually entered an empty music classroom. After locking the door, Luo Le kicked it angrily, grabbed the hem of her school uniform, and glared at Feng Ran with bloodshot eyes.
"You're going to marry Shen Shiqian?"
Feng Ran doesn't need to pretend to be gentle and kind in front of Luo Le. After all, it was an accident that Luo Le got involved with her. Precisely because it was an accident, she can't hate Luo Le just because he likes her.
The pain and impact caused by Fengran's nerve compression are usually within a controllable range. When it becomes too severe to control, she will find an excuse to hide away and reappear in front of people after she has recovered.
She met Basil Sleica at last year's sports meet. St. James' School, as a top-tier private high school, has a direct-entry program to military academies. It arranges basic courses for military academies in advance for students to adapt, and those with excellent grades also have guaranteed admission.
The empire is known for its martial spirit, and almost everyone of importance is in the direct-advancement class, except for Feng Ran. Feng Ran is used to being told what to do, so if Feng Linye doesn't want her to go, she just accepts it and doesn't say anything.
The sports meet included a combat simulation competition. Generally, the matches between the direct-advancement class and the regular class were just watered-down matches under the guise of friendship first. Unsurprisingly, everyone lost gracefully, except for Feng Ran, who completely crushed the direct-advancement class's Basil Sleika in a 1V1.
The simulation competition requires piloting mechs in combat, but ordinary middle schools cannot obtain mech combat training permits, so they use combat training simulators, which require wearing built-in connectors to operate.
After suffering nerve damage at the age of eight, Feng Ran felt a lot of pressure using the connector. During the competition, she unexpectedly lost control and could hardly control her thoughts and emotions. It took her twice the mental energy to drive the connector. The immense pain kept recurring in her mind, so she fought very aggressively and just wanted to finish the battle quickly and find a place to rest, which scared the several Alphas in the direct-upgrade class who were watching to tears.
After the competition ended and she stepped out of the simulator, she almost lost her balance. She excused herself by saying she wasn't feeling well and left the classroom to rest in the infirmary. At that time, she was out of control and couldn't detect anyone following her.
Due to the loss of control over her mental energy, Feng Ran became almost completely deaf. The backlash from the nerve compression and damage was extremely severe. Her vision was blurred, she couldn't even stand steadily, and breathing was painful. She was in a terrible state, and it was Basil who supported her.
She didn't really remember what happened that day. After all, she couldn't hear anything, her breathing was difficult due to the pressure, and she didn't have the strength to speak. But she only remembered that someone used pheromones to soothe her. It was a very comforting lavender scent, which was the only thing Feng Ran remembered that day.
So when Basil Sleica subtly approached Feng Ran to mention the events of the day of the sports meet, Feng Ran had no recollection of him at all, which caused all the old and new grudges in Basil's heart to explode at once.
He was arrogant and unwilling to talk to Feng Ran at school, but on weekends he couldn't help but use his family connections to invite Feng Ran out to kill time. After a while, Feng Ran lost patience and naturally started to give him the cold shoulder.
Basil's thoughts are easy to understand. He is a noble Alpha from a prominent family who grew up in a honey pot. Unlike Feng Linye, who is just awkward and foul-mouthed, he likes Feng Ran. He also likes Feng Ran because he has seen Feng Ran's vulnerability and indifference. Therefore, he thinks he is different from others, nothing more.
Feng Ran couldn't bring himself to hate such a fool, because apart from trading twenty of his family's energy stars for her, Luo Le hadn't actually done anything that Feng Ran found repulsive. In fact, every date with him was one of the few times Feng Ran could be himself.
Feng Ran's head started to ache again. She casually sat down on a desk and watched as Luo Le, with red eyes, slowly approached her. The impression was a bit strange, as if she had seen a similar situation before.
"yes."
Basil's eyes reddened even more. Actually, this young master was not bad at all. In fact, he was much better than Feng Linye. He was handsome, rich, and had no ulterior motives. He put a lot of effort into every meeting outside of school. Feng Ran just pretended not to know what those were the things that had to be done on a date because Feng Ran once said that he only remembered the matter of pheromones and had never released them again. He was surprisingly innocent.
"I won't allow it! You reject him! It was clearly... it was clearly me first!"
Even when the innocent young master Basil made these domineering declarations with overflowing possessiveness, he only dared to hold Feng Ran's hand.
His light golden hair had a sacred halo under the sunlight, and his azure sapphire-like eyes were fixed on Feng Ran alone. His face was very red, completely lacking the elegance and composure that a campus prince should have.
Strangely, Feng Ran didn't actually like this before. She was selfishly bound to Luo Le by power relations. Even though Luo Le was genuinely good to her, she still felt resistant because of the oppression her family imposed on her. The only thing she could do was not hate Luo Le.
But now that relationship has been severed by Shen Shiqian, who interfered. Her kite string has been grabbed by another person, and the other end of the string seems to be constantly pulling her down from the already unfree sky, crashing her into an iceberg.
Basil's hands holding hers were warm; his body temperature was high, hot like the sun. Every time they hugged tightly, his kisses landed on every corner of her body, and Feng Ran felt like she was being burned. But she quickly came to her senses and realized that their relationship wasn't that intimate. There were no hugs or kisses; it was all a false illusion. But why did she have this illusion?
She felt somewhat depressed, her mind filled with a chaotic pain, without any source, inexplicable yet heartbreaking. She vaguely felt that Basil was actually a very good person, but this feeling came more strangely. Basil deserved such praise; he was just spoiled. What truly oppressed her were Feng Xiqiao and Qin Xin, who constantly pressured and pressured her.
The sadness she felt made Feng Ran speechless as she looked at Basil's angry and heartbroken face. Overwhelmed by her own distress, she reached out and pulled Basil into her arms, resting her head on his shoulder. She said, her mood very somber:
"Basil, my head hurts so much, can I smell your pheromones?"
She spoke so naturally, as if she had done it many times before, but this should have been the first time she had made such a request.
Basil's heart was pounding. He couldn't resist the teasing of the person he liked. His body spoke louder than his words. The rich scent of lavender emanated from him and filled the entire classroom. Being snuggled close to Feng Ran, he felt a little dizzy. He awkwardly hugged Feng Ran's thin and weak back, and inexplicably felt a little wronged.
"I was here first."
"It's probably... the highest bidder wins." Feng Ran nestled close to him.
When he heard Feng Ran's reply, he thought it was despicable.
But he didn't know if this statement referred to him, Shen Shiqian, or Feng Xiqiao. Perhaps the three of them were all cut from the same cloth and would only cause Feng Ran pain. However, he hated Feng Xiqiao. Feng Ran should have been radiant and dazzling, but he had ruined him like this. Thinking of Feng Ran's painful and weak expression, he wished he could tear them to pieces.
"I'm sorry..." Basil moved gently, afraid of disturbing or hurting Feng Ran, but she still hugged Feng Ran even tighter.
The scent of lavender is gentle and warm, as is the passionate embrace of a young man. Even though it sometimes differs from Basil's impression, Basil said he felt ashamed that an Alpha's pheromones smelled like that, so he usually concealed it well. However, if Feng Ran liked him, he was willing to dig out his pheromones and give them to her.
Strange, did Basil ever say such a thing? How could such a proud and sunny young master like Basil say such a thing? Feng Ran felt that her head was throbbing and she was having hallucinations, but the hallucinations were incredibly real, as real as the scent of pheromones surging in her nose. She felt that she had smelled it many times, and each time she let it cover her body.
My heart aches and feels sore, like it's crying, but what's there to cry about? It's so strange.
Feng Ran lifted her head from Basil's embrace and looked into his red eyes, which were filled with tears. Those beautiful sapphire eyes were clean, clear, and sparkling, without a trace of gloom. She felt a deep sense of nostalgia, so much so that she herself shed tears.
Basil hurriedly wiped away her tears, blurting out, "If you don't like Shen Shiqian, then don't marry him. I'll elope with you. I've apologized to you, so please don't hate me. Don't cry, okay? Although you look pretty when you cry. Ah, that's not what I meant..."
The pain surged and was suppressed under the soothing effect of pheromones. Feng Ran was unable to think any deeper. She didn't know why, but she cupped Basil's face and kissed his beautiful eyes.
"I'm the one who needs to apologize."
Thank you for everything you've done for me all this time.
Feng Ran lost consciousness and collapsed into a pale golden embrace. Her head was dizzy and throbbing, as if she had been in a long and painful dream. Basil was also in the dream, but he was thin and pale, with large dark circles under his eyes. His blond hair and blue eyes had become haggard and dull. He held Feng Ran tightly, as if he were holding a corpse.
