Chapter 35

Chapter 35

Seeing that Feng Ran had fallen asleep, Luo Le's expression suddenly changed. When he carried Feng Ran to the hospital, he was questioned by a patrol team on the street. He was so annoyed that he didn't want to say a word. Chris and Joshua did all the explaining.

Feng Ran has been kidnapped! What the hell is Shen Shiqian doing?! Is it fun to steal someone else's sweetheart and then deliberately humiliate them like this? What kind of genius military marshal is he? He's nothing! Luo Le hates him so much that she doesn't even want to wait until graduation and wants to elope with Feng Ran right now.

They went to Sleica Private Hospital. Luo Le didn't care how much his father scolded him or how terrified he was. He was now going to openly oppose Shen Shiqian!

Aside from the two obvious external injuries, Feng Ran had no other wounds. After the doctor bandaged her up, he gave her an IV drip to lower her fever, but because she was weak and had a persistent high fever, she was still unconscious. Although it looked dangerous, thankfully her life was not in danger.

Although Chris had a good relationship with Roller, he was unaware of Roller's relationship with Feng Ran. Joshua had even fewer opportunities to see Roller after going to the military academy, so he had no way of knowing.

Basil stood by Fengran's bedside, intently wiping her lips with a damp cotton swab. Suddenly, as if remembering something, he looked up and said, "Joshua, lock the door to the ward. You block the way there and don't let anyone in."

Joshua, who had been playing with his terminal to try and distract himself from the ambiguous atmosphere, hesitated upon hearing this: "Hey? Isn't this a bit inappropriate? What if the doctor comes to change the dressing?"

Basil glared at him coldly, "What's there to be afraid of with a teleportation device? I'll change it for her myself in a bit."

Chris sighed and set a password for the smart lock on the ward. It was the first time he had seen Basil look so bad. He patted Joshua on the shoulder and muttered, "It's really sad that he likes someone so much and then this happens. Let's just bear with him for now."

Joshua remained expressionless, looking down at his terminal. The mass search for wanted criminals on the streets seemed to have finally come to a conclusion. His older brother excitedly told him that Shen Shiqian had neglected his duty in the pursuit and carelessly let the space pirate gang escape. As expected, the vacant position of Minister of Security would be taken by the council. As for the punishment Shen Shiqian would face, it would depend on His Majesty Geno's mood. Of course, even if His Majesty Geno intended to let him off lightly, Speaker Klarov would definitely want to take a piece of his flesh.

"Really," Joshua thought sullenly. He didn't want to know this kind of thing. Marshal Shen was still his idol, after all. Was it too presumptuous of Orville to send him this? Although he knew that his brother meant that he could get him into the Security Department without having to contact Joey, he didn't really want to go to the Security Department.

[Joshua: So how did the space pirates escape? With the martial law in Chilia so strict, suddenly even hovercars are restricted; we almost couldn't get a ride.]

[Orville: Shen Shiqian ordered all warships and starships of the First to Fourth Legions to be deployed and arranged in aerial formation to surround Chilia. It seems the space pirates slipped out by blending into these starships.]

[Joshua: Huh? Does that mean all the aircraft carrier ports that were under martial law are now open again?]

[Orville: Yeah, who knows what that guy was thinking, blatantly deploying so many warships to surround Kiria. I'm afraid even His Majesty Geno will have a grudge against him. Why didn't he cherish his newly acquired position and had to meddle with the Security Department? Now look what happened...]

The rapid knocking sounded on the door. Joshua immediately shut down his terminal, glanced at the door somewhat guiltily, and was about to open it subconsciously when he remembered that Basil had told him not to.

He turned on the monitor by the door and was about to ask who the other person was and what they wanted when he was startled by the sudden appearance of Marshal Shen's face. Joshua didn't bother to ask any questions and tiptoed to the bedside in the inner room.

"Hey, hey, hey, what's going on? Shen Shiqian is here!"

Basil clicked his tongue impatiently: "Let him come. Just block the door. If you let him in easily, I'll tell Joey about the love letters you wrote."

Joshua now fully realized the seriousness of the situation. He was just an idol, but he couldn't let him lose face in front of Joey! He walked back to the door and pushed Chris in front of him.

Chris suddenly didn't want to play along with these two's antics anymore, but Joshua hid behind him and pinched him: "You're the one who said you'd put up with him this time. If Joey finds out about me writing love letters, I'll tell my sister you have a crush on her!"

Chris's face darkened, and he tried to pry the hand that was pinching him off: "Don't use such unlucky things as threats, what if she actually believes it! I know, I know, it's just..." He looked at Shen Shiqian on the screen, still a little scared: "If he kicks the door down, I won't be able to do anything!"

He walked over and pressed the intercom on the door, clearing his throat: "Hello, how can I help you?"

Shen Shiqian succinctly stated: "I am Fengran's guardian."

Basil's voice came from afar: "What evidence do you have? I didn't even want to let Feng Xiqiao and Qin Xin in, so who do you think you are?"

Joshua looked at Chris in horror, only daring to lip-sync with him in this atmosphere:

'Is he crazy?'

Chris glanced outside again. The hospital director had rushed over to unlock the door, and he felt that Uncle Fernand was not far away.

'I don't know if he's gone mad, I only know that the three of us are doomed.'

The smart lock's password was quickly formatted and opened. As soon as the door opened, Shen Shiqian's cold and domineering aura swept over them. Joshua was still standing there, not moving. The feeling of seeing his idol under such circumstances was truly subtle. But Shen Shiqian only glanced at him, then picked him up like a chicken and threw him into the arms of the adjutant behind him, coldly ordering, "Take him away to make a statement."

Chris stood by the door, silently chanting: "Can't see me, can't see me..." Shen Shiqian only glanced at him briefly and actually ignored him.

Shen Shiqian rushed to the bedside, and Luo Le gently held Feng Ran's injured hand, saying sarcastically without looking up, "Such an air of authority."

Shen Shiqian frowned and looked at him: "You're not innocent either. Didn't Fernand teach you manners?"

Basil: "Oh, he's in good health and says there's no rush."

Basil wanted to subtly insult him, but suddenly felt a hook on his palm. He immediately gripped his hand tighter, his cold expression melting away instantly, and he looked at Feng Ran with concern.

Shen Shiqian quickly walked to the other side of the hospital bed and quietly looked at Feng Ran.

Feng Ran slowly opened his eyes, paused for a moment when he saw Shen Shiqian, then coughed muffledly, pitifully leaning towards Basil, and squeezed out a breathy voice: "Basil, I want to drink water."

Basil's smile lingered for a moment before he finally spoke arrogantly, "Chris, get me a glass of water!"

The person who brought in the water was Salo. In his heart, Luo Le cursed Chris, Salo, and Shen Shiqian a thousand times. He watched as Shen Shiqian gently handed the cup to Feng Ran. Feng Ran sat quietly and motionless.

"Burning..."

Seeing his rival get humiliated made him feel exceptionally pleased. Basil almost burst out laughing. He patted Feng Ran's hand more gently and patiently, then turned to Chris and called out, "Chris, get some water, hurry up! Don't keep the patient waiting. Next time there's data to collect, I'll leave you waiting like this for ten or eight days too."

Chris really wanted to bang his head against the wall and die, thinking, "Why isn't Joshua back yet?" But he dutifully and quickly got a glass of water and stepped into the small, chaotic area around the hospital bed.

Basil helped Feng Ran sit up, carefully controlling the angle of the tilted cup to prevent the water from spilling. Only after Feng Ran had sipped half a cup of water did he put the cup on the bedside table and look at Shen Shiqian with an extremely provocative expression.

Basil, fully displaying her charm, looked at Feng Ran with tender affection: "Does your wound hurt? Your fever was 39 degrees just now, and it's only gone down a little. Are you dizzy? The doctor said your blood sugar is very low. Do you want to eat something?"

Feng Ran simply lowered his head and held his hand, refusing to look at Shen Shiqian.

Shen Shiqian knew why, of course. He saw it clearly: when he deliberately stalled Jiang Lan, saying that the deal was entirely up to him, a certain light gradually disappeared from Feng Ran's eyes.

Trust crumbled once more, and this time it seemed even more intractable. His choice, made so easily, left him no room for explanation. He confidently believed he could handle everything: maintain tight control of the shipport, pinpoint the pirates' hideout, restore terminal communication and location tracking, capture the pirates, and rescue Feng Ran—all without fail. But the other side had seized control of his private communications, used his authentication privileges to mobilize the army, and easily manipulated the Empire's intelligent security system. This feeling was all too familiar, terrifyingly familiar.

But because the victim was Feng Ran, everything became contradictory, and Shen Shiqian was speechless and didn't even want to think.

Basil continued to soothe Feng Ran: "If you don't want to eat, why don't you take a nap and rest? I'll cook you your favorite Gastrodia elata and bamboo fungus soup later, okay?"

Chris stood to the side with a blank expression: What the hell was that noise? There's a trap.

Salo felt sorry for his superior officer. Was this what they called a "loser"? But he also felt that there was nothing he could do about it. After all, Miss Fengran was still young and of course she couldn't accept such a thing.

Not long after, Fernand Sleica and Sissen Kalisch arrived. Although the two companies were competitors, their general development directions were different, and their relationship wasn't as strained as rumored. Fernand numbly hoped that Basil hadn't angered Shen Shiqian, while Sissen greeted him with a smile, "Uncle."

But things didn't go as planned. Lorraine was blatantly holding the hand of someone else's fiancée, Chris was cowering in the corner, not daring to speak, and everyone had a bad look on their face. The air was strange and silent, and Fernand's words of reprimand and apology were stuck in his throat.

Shen Shiqian sighed: "I'm sorry, Ranran, I'm so sorry that you had to go through all this. Salo, take the other two people down to make statements. I will definitely give you an explanation for this. Ranran, can you tell me what happened after the communication was cut off?"

When Basil was dragged away by Chris, Fernand, and Salo, he was still arrogant, and his first words were sarcastic: "Is this how you conduct official business? Marshal Shen, you're doing very well."

Fernand immediately kicked the unfilial son, declaring that no matter who pleaded for him when they got back, it wouldn't work; he had to be locked up! He hoped this incident wouldn't implicate the Sleica family, and for that reason, he had to keep a close eye on that kid, Basil.
