Chapter 6

Chapter 6

She slept soundly through the night and had a new perspective on the K3-1 potion. The summer school uniform she had thrown into the washing machine still had a faint bitter taste, so she had to change into another spare set.

She actually didn't really want that school uniform anymore, so she decided to go to the academic affairs office today and buy a new one.

Not long after Feng Ran arrived at school and sat down, her friend Afu led several other girls who often surrounded her over.

"Ranran, how was yesterday?"

Feng Ran smiled at her, feigning ignorance, and asked, "What do you mean, 'how about it'?"

Afu winked and said, "Oh, it's about basil, you're not shy or embarrassed, are you?"

As soon as she mentioned basil, most of the people nearby perked up their ears. Half of them were gossipy, and quite a few had ulterior motives, since both Basil Sleika and Feng Ran were among the most eye-catching and prominent figures in the school.

Feng Ran looked at Afu with amusement: "I'm sorry there's no ambiguous topic you're looking for. Basil did ask me for help with something, but I have to give Young Master Sleika some face, so I can't tell you the specifics."

Afu pouted, "Hey, I didn't know you guys were so close."

Feng Ran smiled and said, "Oh dear, why do you sound so jealous? What are you so jealous about?"

Afu: "I'm not such a jealous woman, I just have a lingering regret that my partner isn't together yet."

Feng Ran sighed: "You should probably watch less LGBTQ+ content."

...

In the morning, there was a chemistry class taught by the homeroom teacher, Raymer. After the in-class quiz, he mentioned the upcoming sports meet and asked the class monitor to encourage everyone to sign up.

After class, everyone was noisily discussing the matter, with the main topic being Feng Ran's crushing victory over Basil in last year's mock competition. The class monitor earnestly asked her if she wanted to sign up for the mock competition again this year, and Feng Ran considerately said that if there weren't enough people, he would sign her up.

After finalizing her project, Feng Ran quickly left the classroom. She was going to the academic affairs office to buy new school uniforms, so she didn't go to the cafeteria with Afu and the others.

The school uniforms took some time to be made. After registering the information, Feng Ran sent a message to Luo Le but no one replied. Xing Tong checked and found that their last class in the direct-entry class was a practical skills class, and they were given extra training by the instructors.

She thought for a moment and then walked towards the teaching building for the advanced class.

The military academy's direct-entry class has a separate teaching building, equipped with various comprehensive classrooms such as an indoor training ground. Feng Ran was not familiar with this building; the last time he came here was during last year's sports meet, because the simulation competition area was set up here.

She stood outside the classroom for a while, curious about the optical refractive glass on the wall. The angle of the prisms in the glass interlayer could be freely changed, altering the visible environment as needed. During class, it seemed to become one-way transparent, and Feng Ran couldn't see inside.

She opened her terminal and pulled up a command window.

Xiaotong, can the internal visual switch of the glass window in room 207 be opened?

Oh, okay, Master! All the equipment inside 207 is controlled by a unified intelligent system. It's currently in a blackout window. I'll quietly open a one-way window for you.

A black window is a piece of black glass that blocks light from both ends and is not open to the outside.

But the black fog on the black glass windows is now slowly receding, and the scene inside the classroom is gradually becoming clear.

The practical training course for Basil and his classmates included shooting, using air pistols and stationary targets. Air bullets are relatively safer training ammunition, with less recoil than solid bullets, but greater air resistance, which requires a high level of skill.

Feng Ran spotted Basil in the crowd at a glance. His light golden hair stood out against the dark background. Unlike the arrogant and boastful image Feng Ran remembered, Young Master Sleika was very composed in class. His gun-holding movements were standard and elegant, although his accuracy was average, though he was mostly on target.

They went to a shooting range on their date. At the time, the range was having an event where the number of targets you hit could be exchanged for prizes. The first prize was a small golden lion statue. Basil took a liking to it at first sight and insisted on getting it for Feng Ranlu.

But Feng Ran really didn't want the golden lion, so he took a gun and teased Luo Le, saying he wanted to have a contest to see who could hit more targets. Luo Le was the type of person who got anxious easily once he got serious. He originally wanted to show off, but the more they competed, the more anxious he became, and unfortunately, he lost to Feng Ran by a difference of two targets.

Feng Ran originally wanted to refuse the prize, but the boss insisted on giving it to her, so she had no choice but to give it to Luo Le. Luo Le hugged the little lion, blushing, and took her to a dessert shop to eat cake with the voucher she won in the second prize.

Unlike Shen Shiqian's refined and profound features, Basil's features are handsome and upright with a touch of ruggedness. For some unknown reason, he once dyed his eyebrows black, which left a deep impression. Later, when the dye faded, it did not return to light gold, but instead turned into an unexpectedly harmonious earthy yellow.

The sensor behind his ear vibrated. Feng Ran looked down at the terminal, and a new message popped up in the command window:

Master, it seems like they're about to finish class. I need to close the glass back up.

As the black mist that had been obscuring vision covered the glass again, the door to room 207 opened. The first few boys who came out were stunned when they saw Feng Ran, and then took a few steps back into the classroom.

This was the first time she had come to the advanced class to find Luo Le. She hadn't expected her classmates to react this way. Feng Ran reflected on her usual words and actions and her reputation at school, and felt that she really shouldn't have done that. For no reason at all, did she look scary?

Before she could figure it out, Basil was pushed out. His previously sour face instantly brightened up when he saw Feng Ran. His sapphire blue eyes shone, and he couldn't suppress the smile on his face.

Basil stopped her expression and became reserved, but she walked quickly towards Feng Ran and was in front of her in an instant.

Her classmates whistled at her teasingly, but Feng Ran smiled gently at them. Those who were about to tease her immediately shut up, showing that her beauty was indeed very effective.

She looked at Basil again, her smile deliberately ambiguous: "I need to talk to you about something, but let's go to the cafeteria first, I'm a little hungry."

Basil couldn't hide his blush; his gaze was somewhat unfocused, but his voice was faintly cheerful and lighthearted: "Okay."

The cafeteria of the elite private school is very luxurious, with a wide variety of stalls to choose from, and there are also separate private rooms on the second floor.

Feng Ran and his group arrived a little late, and there were basically no seats left on the second floor, so they went directly to the VIP members' restaurant on the third floor.

Basil served her food attentively, picking out all of Feng Ran's favorite dishes. He brought up yesterday's events, his dark eyebrows involuntarily furrowing: "Shen Shiqian didn't do anything to you yesterday, did he? You have no idea how awful he is. I said I wanted to take you to the hospital, but he said it was none of my business and told me to keep my distance from you. Ha, the dignified Grand Marshal is so mean in private. I really want to expose him to the media."

Feng Ran picked at the food from the pile of small dishes in front of her, listening to Basil's endless rant about her hatred for Shen Shiqian. She smiled gently and said, "He didn't have time to do anything. He originally called Sisson Calishie to give me a physical examination, but he went into his fertile period first, so I took the opportunity to sneak home."

Basil's face darkened. "He did it on purpose, didn't he? He was unconscious and didn't go to the hospital but instead went for a private checkup? So what if he's a famous doctor like Sisson Calishie? Do surgeons have X-ray eyes? His motives are too obvious. He must know something about you. His approach to you is definitely for ulterior motives!"

Basil probably felt that it wasn't good to just badmouth others, and that such topics at the dinner table were a bit of a downer, so she served Feng Ran another bowl of soup, her voice softening: "Feng Ran, this is the first time you've come to the accelerated class to see me..."

He had always been too proud to admit it, and felt that since Feng Ran pretended not to know him at school and deliberately ignored him, he didn't need to be too proactive. Otherwise, it would make him, the young master of the Sleica family, look cheap. Although every time he saw her through the crowd, his possessiveness made him want to break off the relationship several times.

Now, the only engagement he could secretly rejoice over had been snatched away by Shen Shiqian. But Feng Ran clearly disliked Shen Shiqian more, and even took the initiative to come to the advanced class to have dinner with him. He felt both incredibly sweet and annoyed, unable to tell whether this was good or bad.

Feng Ran: "Yeah, I came because I wanted to see you, is that not allowed?"

"Of course! I really want to see you too!" His eyes sparkled, his expressions shifting dramatically. "Because you've always seemed so cold, I was worried you might dislike me, but it seems that's not the case now. Yesterday when I got home, my dad warned me not to mess with Shen Shiqian and to keep my distance from you. To be honest, I thought it was awful. Couldn't he be a little more assertive about his son's love life? Then, for some reason, we started arguing about same-sex relationships. That guy is so old-fashioned. For a moment, I even wanted to run away from home..."

"Ah, sorry, I've only let you listen to my complaints. These things must be boring for Feng Ran."

Like that little golden lion statue, it has a silly expression.

It wasn't boring at all, because when Basil talked about these things, she always exuded a warm atmosphere that made Feng Ran unable to look away and felt particularly envious.

She shook her head. "Has your class started signing up for the sports meet yet?"

Basil: Not yet, our class advisor doesn't have any classes today. But if you've all started registering, he should let us know to register on our own first. What's up? Did you register for the mock competition again this year?

Feng Ran: "Well, it's hard to find enough people for this project in the regular class, so everyone wanted me to participate and I signed up."

Basil: "Ah, then I want to participate too! But Fengran, don't you dislike using connectors? What if it's uncomfortable like before? If we can be drawn into the same group, I can go easy on you."

Feng Ran found it funny: "Why do you think you can beat me? I won't hold back, but I'd like to be in your group too."

Of course, she could have Xing Tong secretly manipulate the organizing committee's lottery grouping, which wasn't a big problem. She just didn't know if her defeated opponent, Young Master Sleica, had made any progress in the past year.

Basil looked at her, her face turning red again. Feng Ran suddenly became friendly and enthusiastic towards him, and he couldn't help but let his mind wander.

This must be thanks to Shen Shiqian. Indeed, people need comparison to make them stand out. So what if he's the Grand Marshal of the Army? He can't win Feng Ran's heart like Shen Shiqian does. He's just a despicable adult with ulterior motives, waiting for Shen Shiqian to find an opportunity to elope with Feng Ran while Shen Shiqian cries alone in the military headquarters.

"Can you tell me why you don't like connectors? I think I can help you figure something out. Of course, if you insist on being stubborn and it makes you uncomfortable, I'll comfort you after the competition." His voice lowered, a little embarrassed, "like when we first met..."

Feng Ran unconsciously touched the metal sensor behind her left ear. Although the nerve damage and hearing loss happened when she was a child, the intense piercing and burning pain was still vivid in her memory. Her complexion wasn't good, but she didn't try to hide it.

"Hmm... I was injured when I was a child using connectors, so I guess you could say I have a psychological trauma from it. I feel pressured to use this type of product again later."

Basil knew a lot about Fengran. After all, compared to the serious and rigid Kalisch family, which had only produced one genius like Sisen after so many years, the Sleica family was more like the Sirius of the Empire's medical industry at this stage. Their brilliance was unmatched. Whether it was research experiments, hospitals, or pharmaceutical factories, their influence far exceeded that of the other family, which was trusted by the people.

Feng Ran was initially very impatient with him and naturally wouldn't tell him about her physical condition. Luo Le searched his family's medical archives for a long time before finding the Feng family's confidential medical records from back then. That's why he disregarded everything and despicably agreed to use energy star transactions to bind Feng Ran to his side.

Fortunately, Feng Ran didn't resist him too much. Whether it was because he was ordered to or for some other reason, Luo Le was already quite satisfied with this kind of interaction. If she was unhappy, he would just try to make her happy, even though his efforts were not very effective.

At a social gathering, for reasons I can't recall, everyone started praising and flattering Feng Ran and his family. The whole family was incredibly good-looking, like celebrities wherever they went. Of course, this was partly due to Feng Ran's mother being a celebrity herself. Luo Le had only gone to the gathering because of Feng Ran, and the way the family acted so affectionately seemed odd. So when her brother, Feng Linye, came over to greet him, he gave him a perfunctory response.

Feng Ran disappeared without anyone knowing when. Luo Le searched for her for a long time, wandering around the banquet hall. When she passed by the lounge, she was suddenly pulled inside.

It is wind-fired.

Her face was deathly pale, and she was having difficulty breathing, as if she were enduring immense pain. Tears streamed uncontrollably from her eyes, and she looked extremely fragile. She struggled for a while but couldn't hold on any longer and leaned weakly against Basil's chest, asking him in a muffled voice if he could take her out.

Although it was somewhat inappropriate, in that instant, Basil even thought of what to name their child. Although they were both Alphas and couldn't get pregnant, it was the first time he had been allowed into Fengran's world.

Basil was spoiled rotten by his family from a young age. Before his grandmother passed away, she smiled and said that he was born knowing how to please people. Can anyone really be born with that ability? That would be too much of a cheat. Basil thought he was just naturally more sensitive to other people's emotions, and that sensitivity allowed him to make appropriate judgments quickly in conversations, nothing more.

Being kind to others is tiring, so he sealed away his delicate sensitivity early on, allowing his elders' pampering to cultivate him into this arrogant and domineering young master.

He could sense Feng Ran's resistance to this topic, so he didn't delve any deeper into his curiosity. After all, it was already quite remarkable that Feng Ran was willing to tell him, wasn't it? Thinking this, he excitedly pounced on Feng Ran and grabbed his hand:

"You're under psychological pressure, huh? How about I take you somewhere where you can release that pressure?"

Let's skip class this afternoon and go out to play!
