Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Over the weekend, Feng Ran moved into Shen Shiqian's house as requested. Qin Xin helped her pack her luggage very enthusiastically early in the morning. Feng Ran didn't have much stuff; the necessary items were compressed into the space buttons, and other daily necessities were just a small carry-on suitcase.

When Qin Xin helped Feng Ran onto the hovercar, she was all smiles, seemingly genuinely happy about her marriage. Feng Ran had tried the new drug the night before, but still had nightmares and was in a daze.

Seeing Qin Xinhuan smiling as she saw her off, she felt a lingering, indescribable pain. Unable to force a smile in response, she boarded the hovercar in a daze.

The hovercar stopped directly in front of the upscale detached apartment. Shen Shiqian greeted her at the elevator entrance. When he saw the briefcase in Feng Ran's hand, his expression changed slightly, but he still gentlemanly reached out and took it from her.

Feng Ran whispered a thank you to him, and Shen Shiqian nodded slightly in response. The two of them then silently went up the elevator.

The last time Fengran visited Shen Shiqian's house, he was still confused and only vaguely felt that it was a large single-level house. In fact, it was indeed like that, like a high-end clubhouse. The entrance was a foyer, a living room, an open-plan dining room and a kitchen, and then there was a long corridor with various rooms on the left and right.

Shen Shiqian's room was the third one on the left. The room he arranged for Feng Ran was opposite him, the second one on the right in the corridor.

The decor clashes with the overall minimalist and business-like style of the apartment building, featuring a mix of pink and white, filled with various exquisite decorations and fluffy, adorable dolls, creating a very sweet and childlike princess room.

Shen Shiqian stood by the door without coming in. He gently placed his suitcase on the plush carpet on the floor and said, "The room was prepared in a bit of a rush. If there is anything missing or that needs to be added, you can tell me or the butler robot."

Feng Ran's expression didn't reveal any joy, but he still responded to Shen Shiqian with a polite smile: "I will, thank you."

Shen Shiqian: "Do you want to tidy up by yourself first, or should I show you around and introduce you to the other rooms?"

Feng Ran was a little tired. She lowered her head slightly and looked at the low, cream-white Baroque cabinet next to the desk, politely declining his offer: "I'm a little tired. Can I rest for a while?"

Shen Shiqian: "Are you feeling unwell?"

Feng Ran didn't speak, but she looked up at him, a flash of wariness and resistance in her eyes. She did seem uncomfortable, but she still insisted, "No." Then, realizing her tone was a bit stiff, she added, "Thank you for your concern."

Shen Shiqian actually hoped that Feng Ran could trust and rely on him more, but it was only out of the perspective of an elder caring for a younger generation. However, it is estimated that Feng Ran did not like their engagement, so his resistance was understandable.

Shen Shiqian: "Okay, then you should get some rest. If anything happens, just tell me. My study is right across from yours."

He politely closed the door for Feng Ran and went straight to the study. After being promoted to marshal, he had a lot of new handover work to handle. Various electronic documents were piled on the table, but on top of them was the medical examination report he had just had the day before yesterday.

Because Xisen said his symptoms that day resembled pseudoestrus, he even went to the Academy of Sciences to check his compatibility with Fengran. The score was 35, which is a high score for Alphas, indicating mutual stability and no rejection, but it does not constitute pseudoestrus.

Shen Shiqian breathed a sigh of relief, but the susceptibility period was still hard to explain, so he went to the hospital for a full-body checkup. The conclusion was that his physical condition was normal, and he didn't even have post-war fatigue. The doctor explained that it might be due to temporary hormonal imbalance caused by stress, and that he needed to observe the situation during the next susceptibility period before a conclusion could be drawn.

He was skeptical, but the plan to bring Feng Ran out of the Feng family was something he had already planned and wouldn't change. He also needed to observe whether there was any mutual attraction between their pheromones.

But it's obvious that Feng Ran didn't; she seemed to dislike him.

Shen Shiqian was having a headache over the relationship between the two of them. He originally just wanted to explore and understand the truth behind Feng Ran's "evil" back then, but those events had not yet happened, and Feng Ran's living environment had changed because of his intervention.

All told, he and Feng Ran had only met three times. It would be too hasty for either of them to start a romantic relationship.

Moreover, none of the three encounters were particularly pleasant. Feng Ran's demeanor was naturally dignified and proper, but it was stiff and aloof. He was not used to being with Feng Ran like this, and his way of maintaining distance was clearly inappropriate, which led to the current situation.

Sixteen-year-old Feng Ran is completely different from twenty-five-year-old Feng Ran. She is gentle, obedient, silent, reserved, and full of defensiveness, completely lacking the latter's flamboyant aggression. When Shen Shiqian confronts her across the starry sea on the electronic screen, Feng Ran will blatantly hack into their positioning system to set off fireworks on the coordinate map, watching them frantically exorcise the virus while smiling brightly.

The military technicians were both angry and annoyed by her malicious pranks. When she got drunk at the party, she would hug the commander's leg and cry. It would have been more reasonable for her to hug Shen Shiqian, but no one dared to do so. Shen Shiqian watched from the side without being moved.

It was just a mischievous prank. Did these technicians, who were simply less skilled, really need to be so fragile?

What exactly happened to cause Feng Ran's personality to change so drastically? Shen Shiqian felt that this was not something he should be curious about. After all, he had been reborn, and he was not going to just watch Feng Ran repeat the same mistakes.

For the sake of the empire's future, he felt it was necessary and his responsibility to change all of this, like a righteous police officer saving an ignorant and wayward girl.

They are engaged, and he can perfectly fulfill the responsibility and obligation he has taken on, using love to try to influence and heal Feng Ran.

Feng Ran had no idea what important decision Shen Shiqian had made in secret across the corridor. She was indeed feeling unwell, and the usual sense of oppression had not eased after she left the Feng family villa. Perhaps she should blame the nightmare she had last night.

She couldn't remember the details clearly, but she vaguely remembered that she had been poisoned. The extreme pain of the toxin destroying her body tissues woke her up. It was only three in the morning, but she couldn't fall back asleep. The hazy pain remained in her mind, and she remained in a daze until now.

The suitcase remained untouched on the carpet by the door. Feng Ran lay on the bed, curled up in a rather unsightly posture. The thin, soft down comforter had a faint perfume scent, unlike the bitter smell emanating from Shen Shiqian; it was a sweet, fruity fragrance.

Feng Ran felt dizzy and nauseous. She felt she couldn't lie there like that because her body temperature seemed to be rising. Fortunately, she didn't feel any pheromones surging, so it was probably just a fever.

She forced herself to sit up, opened the space button and laboriously found a collection tube inside. After finally collecting the blood sample, she remembered that the nanny robot she had modified was still at the Feng family's house, so she could only irritably throw the sample into the space button.

The discomfort from various symptoms was more intense than with a regular fever. Fengran guessed that it was probably a delayed side effect of the new drug he took last night, or an immune dysfunction caused by the activation of special blocking factors.

It's a bit of a problem. She doesn't have any medication for this, but if left untreated, it's hard to know how long the side effects will last, and the inflammatory response from nerve damage could also cause her to lose control of her mental state.

That's terrible.

Feng Ran felt her vision blurring, and she stumbled out of bed towards the door, accidentally kicking over the suitcase in the process. Although she was reluctant to ask Shen Shiqian for help, she had no other choice now.

Fortunately, the corridor wasn't very far. Just as Feng Ran raised her hand to knock on the door, it opened from the inside. She stumbled forward, falling into the person's arms.

She looked up, wanting to tell Shen Shiqian that she wasn't feeling well and ask him to take her to the hospital, but her throat was burning and she couldn't make a sound. Her lungs were also hurting so much that she had difficulty breathing and couldn't say anything.

Shen Shiqian seemed to be talking to her, but she couldn't hear him. She slowly realized that her mental energy had gone out of control, and then her consciousness completely fell into chaos.

Shen Shiqian opened the door after hearing something fall to the ground, wanting to check on Feng Ran's condition and also ask her what she wanted for dinner.

But as soon as he opened the door, the pale-faced girl collapsed into his arms, curled up in pain, her eyes unfocused, her face covered in tears and cold sweat, her fingers unable to even grip him.

Shen Shiqian's heart clenched instantly. He reached out and touched Feng Ran's forehead, which was burning hot. But no matter how he called Feng Ran's name, she did not respond. He could only hold her in his arms and rush to the hospital.

The hovercar, equipped with special lane-blocking lights, sped along unimpeded and quickly arrived at the hospital. Shen Shiqian used his privileges to book a priority emergency room appointment with specialists, and most of the doctors from various departments arrived, which alarmed Xisen, who had just finished abdominal surgery and came to the treatment room to find out what was going on.

Feng Ran lay in the medical pod, with a tube inserted to assist his breathing. His face was pale, and he looked extremely pitiful.

Shen Shiqian was in the other cubicle, looking through the glass window at the medical cabin filled with various drug tubes. For a moment, he thought he was in the central laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

He had seen the replica of that body and knew that Feng Ran's body was actually not in good condition. Part of it was post-traumatic stress disorder, and part of it was an incurable disease. She had been sick for a long time while she was fleeing around in the Star Sea, but Shen Shiqian did not expect it to happen so soon.

The doctors were discussing treatment plans and medications in the adjacent examination room. After listening for a few minutes, Xisen left and watched as his friend looked at the medical pod with a heavy expression.

"The diagnosis is acute immune disorder syndrome caused by drugs. Her physical condition is not suitable for taking too many medications. For the time being, she can only take some mild nutritional supplements. Once the symptoms subside and stabilize, she will be fine."

"Immune dysregulation syndrome is not a common disease. We still need to wait for the blood test results. Do you know what medications she usually takes?"

Shen Shiqian stood motionless in front of the glass window like a statue waiting for its husband. Xisen couldn't stand his gloomy state any longer, so he pressed the glass switch on the wall, and his vision immediately turned into a snowy white.

"Hey! Shen Shiqian, speak up, this is a very serious matter."

Shen Shiqian finally came to his senses and paid him any attention.

"I don't know how her health is?"

Sissen: "Aside from some drug buildup, there doesn't seem to be any major problem."

"Drug deposition?"

"Yes, literally. She takes too many medications regularly, so her body is like a walking pharmacy. She might occasionally experience side effects like weakness and palpitations. But at the same time, she also has a high tolerance for drugs. I don't know if it's innate or acquired, but either way, it's quite difficult to treat with medication."

Can it be cured?

"Immune system disorders are only temporary and can be treated, but drug buildup needs to be managed with medication and then gradually nurtured. Although her physical examination showed no problems, I suggest you still ask about the drug buildup."

Thank you, I will.
