Chapter 101 Lupin's Vicious Scheme

That evening, Su Wan had Lu Na bring several male servants into her tent to move the bathtub out, and took the opportunity to let Wei Jingzhuo blend into the crowd and leave together.

She already knew that Luna and Wei Jingzhuo were on the same side, so they would naturally find a way to hide their tracks.

The following day, she conducted tests and selections for the remaining soldiers.

Because he failed to bring the goddess back to the camp, Luna missed out on being granted a title. He insisted on joining the exam to gain a chance to get closer to the king. Su Wan then allowed him to join as well.

To Su Wan's surprise, Luna was actually the best performer among everyone. Whenever she gave an instruction, Luna could always accurately pick out what she asked for, without ever making a mistake.

This is probably the fighting power generated by an extreme desire for money and status.

Su Wan selected Luna and three other soldiers to be her assistants during the surgery.

The real challenge begins now.

She first took an electrocardiogram machine from the pharmacy and performed an electrocardiogram on the sleeping King of Xirong.

The electrocardiogram showed atrial fibrillation waves, confirming that the Western Rong King was actually suffering from atrial fibrillation, a type of arrhythmia. Atrial fibrillation can lead to blood clot formation, which is why the Western Rong King often felt chest tightness.

While quick-acting heart-saving pills can dissolve blood clots, they only provide temporary relief. To truly and permanently resolve the Western Rong King's heart disease, surgery is necessary.

She knew the principles and procedures of the surgery, but had never actually performed it on a patient. Now, as she was about to operate directly on the King of Xirong, she was still somewhat apprehensive.

Thinking that successfully curing the Western Rong King would bring a rare peace to the Great Jin Dynasty, she mustered her courage and began preparations for the surgery.

The surgery was scheduled for the evening of October 5th. A tent was specially set up in an open area of the military camp for the surgery.

That night, dark clouds covered the sky, and the moon shone without light. An hour before the surgery, Su Wan disinfected the tent with alcohol and instructed Luna to invite the King of Xirong.

When Luna arrived at the Western King's tent, he found that the guards were not the same people he had seen before. He didn't think much of it, assuming it was a change of shifts, and said to the guards, "The goddess is preparing to perform surgery on Your Majesty and has sent me to invite Your Majesty over."

A guard said curtly, "His Majesty is currently speaking with someone; you are not allowed to enter."

Luna was a little confused.

The goddess is to perform surgery on the king tonight, a fact the king clearly knows, and he even specifically stated that no one is to be disturbed tonight. Why then, at this crucial juncture, does he need to speak with someone?

According to the king's orders, all the Western Rong generals should remain in their own tents. Who is this person speaking to the king?

"Who is Your Majesty talking to?" he asked curiously.

The guard raised his hand as if shooing away a fly and said to him, "Who do you think you are, daring to inquire about the King's affairs? This is not something someone like you should know. Get out of here now."

When Luna saw that the guards wouldn't let him into the tent, he scratched his head, took a few steps back, and while the guards weren't paying attention, he crouched down and slipped into a dark corner where the firelight couldn't reach, and crept along the edge of the royal tent toward the back tent.

He was genuinely curious about who was talking to the king, someone who could make the king forget about the surgery.

Reaching the back of the royal tent, he pressed his ear against the fabric and heard faint sounds coming from inside. The sounds seemed somewhat familiar. He frowned, then moved to a different spot and listened more clearly; the sounds were much clearer then.

“My actions are not out of selfishness,” came the voice of King Danmoji of the Western Rong from inside the tent. “Do you think you can replace me?”

Danmoji's voice sounded like he was in great pain, with rapid breathing, as if he was enduring a lot of pain.

"Shut up!" another man's voice rang out, filled with rage. "You have no idea what you're doing. We warriors of the Western Rong rob the Great Jin of everything we need. Money, food, women... and now you dare to make peace with the Great Jin?"

The familiar voice startled Luna. The person talking to the king inside the tent was none other than his elder brother, Lupin.

“Lupin, why do you have to make it sound so noble,” Dunmoji gasped. “You’re just after revenge against the goddess, and I’m the one who’s standing in your way…”

“Heh, you were right,” Lupin sneered. “Who does she think she is? Just a mere woman from the Great Jin. We Western Rong people are being manipulated by a woman from the Great Jin. I was beaten with fifty lashes. All this humiliation… is your doing.”

Danmoji's breathing became more labored: "If you... kill me, the entire army will come after you."

Lupin's laughter grew even more terrifying, sounding filled with ferocity: "You think I'm that stupid? Look closely, this knife was forged by the people of the Great Jin. You can die in peace. I'll make sure your blood doesn't flow, and I'll have someone wheel you into the operating tent while that goddess goes in..."

The night was chilly, but Luna was sweating profusely from listening.

Inside the tent, Danmoji seemed to want to speak, but the sound of a blade piercing a human body rang out, and Danmoji let out a low cry before falling silent.

Luna's soul almost flew away. She tried to stand up and run away, but her legs were so weak that they seemed to have no bones, and she couldn't stand up at all.

Dunmoji is dead. Lupin, the eldest brother, killed the king.

“Didn’t you want to make peace with the Great Jin? Didn’t you insist on protecting that goddess?” Lupin’s low laughter echoed in the tent. “Now you can’t stop me anymore. It’s a pity… I can’t just go and kill that brat.”

Luna braced himself on the ground and managed to stand up, the cat creeping towards the front of the royal tent from the shadows.

When he reached the front tent, Lupin had already ordered two soldiers to carry King Danmoji of the Western Regions out of the tent on a stretcher. Luna was so frightened that he trembled all over and quickly shrank into the darkness.
