Chapter 108 It's Time to Plant Potatoes

Two thousand Western Rong cavalry, led by the newly appointed commander Luna, escorted Su Wan's convoy south to his fiefdom.

Su Wan sat comfortably in the spacious and bright carriage, wrapped in a fluffy red fox fur coat. Her long black hair framed her fair face as she smiled at Wei Jingzhuo sitting opposite her.

“Ah Jin, do you know, I also rode in a horse-drawn carriage when I went there.”

Wei Jingzhuo raised an eyebrow but then lowered it again, continuing to examine the measuring tape in his hand: "What's this soft measuring tape for?"

“They measured my bust, waist, and hips,” Su Wan answered quickly, then returned to her own topic, “That carriage wasn’t nearly as nice as this one; it was cold and hard. I was taken there as a prisoner. Now, I’m being brought back as a distinguished guest.”

"I recognize this character. It's called '英' (yīng)... cun,' and on the other side, '厘' (lí)... mi. Why do we need two sides?"

"Hey, listen to me, stop looking at that thing." Su Wan leaned forward and snatched the measuring tape from Wei Jingzhuo's hand. "Tell me, wouldn't you say I've returned home in glory?"

Wei Jingzhuo smiled helplessly: "What did you mean by the measurements you mentioned earlier?"

“The measurements are here, here, and here.” Su Wan pointed to the corresponding body parts. “Haven’t you, young master, ever seen a tailor make clothes?”

“Of course not,” Wei Jingzhuo stood up and sat down next to her. “I don’t want to learn everything.”

Seeing him get so close while he was talking, Su Wan quickly moved to the side and laughed, "What are you doing, getting so close?"

"It's a bit cold." Wei Jingzhuo lowered his head seriously and leaned against her to smell her hair. "It feels warm when I'm close to you."

“We were talking about my business, but you’ve steered the conversation away from it,” Su Wan said, raising her hand to push his face. “Sit up straight and talk properly.”

Wei Jingzhuo didn't sit up. Instead, he placed his hand on the back of her hand and rubbed his chin against her palm: "Awan, these past two days on the road, you've been using this tape measure to measure yourself whenever you have free time, but you won't let me see it. Are you measuring your bust, waist, and hip measurements?"

Su Wan said somewhat embarrassedly, "No, it's not that. I just wanted to see if the numbers had changed. Please don't ask anymore."

She felt she'd been eating too much meat lately and was showing signs of weight gain. She dared not look at the scale anymore, so she grabbed a tape measure from her apartment to measure her waist. If her waistline hadn't increased, she could at least feel some peace of mind.

When measuring, she took a deep breath and tightened the tape measure hard, leaving red marks on her waist. It was only with great difficulty that she managed to get it to 1.9 feet.

This data point, which used to be easily achievable, is now so difficult; it's because we've been eating too much meat.

Eating meat three times a day would make anyone bloat like an inflating balloon. She secretly resolved that once she returned to the Great Jin Dynasty, she would eat potatoes and cabbage every day and make sure her figure returned to its original state.

Wei Jingzhuo sat up straight and smiled, "Okay, I won't ask. Actually, you would look better if you were a little chubby."

Su Wan rolled her eyes at him, ignoring his words as if he had just farted.

There's an old saying: "A handsome man and a beautiful woman." Women must maintain their figure; it's something they absolutely shouldn't take lightly.

The sound of approaching hooves rang out from outside the carriage window: "Goddess, your fief has arrived."

Su Wan suddenly perked up, got up, and pushed open the car window to look outside.

The midday sun shines on the vast grassland. Rows of white tents are scattered across the pale yellow earth. Next to each tent is a small hill of hay, covered with a thatched roof.

“Brother Lu,” she asked, pointing to a haystack in the distance, “that hay is for winter, right?”

Luna rode alongside the carriage window. He was now a commander of ten thousand, the only difference from a formal commander of ten thousand being that he couldn't lead troops into battle. He was dressed in the attire of a Western Rong general, with a battle sword at his waist, looking quite imposing.

He pointed to the haystack and said, “Goddess, it’s already October. As the weather gets colder, the hay will wither. The herders are taking advantage of this time to collect the hay and dry it for their cattle, sheep and horses to use for overwintering.”

Looking at the land in front of her, Su Wan was overjoyed. She turned to Wei Jingzhuo and said, "Such a large open space can be used to grow a lot of potatoes."

Wei Jingzhuo also got up and went to the window to look outside. He smiled and said, "The Western Rong people mostly graze cattle and sheep, and the land is fertile. We can try planting some. If the harvest is good, it will solve the food problem for the Northwest Camp."

Su Wan nodded happily.

Compared to the land she has now, what she used to cultivate at Lu Zhao's house was at best an experimental plot. Planting potatoes and cotton on such a vast expanse of land would probably be more than enough to support an army.

As the convoy moved forward, a large group of herders gathered ahead, lining the road to welcome them. Many children sat on adults' shoulders, eager to catch a glimpse of the goddess.

Luna introduced Su Wan, saying, "These are all people from our Chakala tribe. Thirty miles ahead from here is Youzhou, the border of the Great Jin Dynasty. In the past, the King decreed that our tribe was not allowed to have any business dealings with Youzhou..."

Upon hearing this, Su Wan realized that Lu Na's previous sale of cattle and sheep to her could be considered smuggling.

As if knowing what Su Wan was thinking, Luna smiled awkwardly and said, "His Majesty has already ordered the garrison here to withdraw. This land has been granted to the Goddess, and she can now do business with the Great Jin. However, you need to inform the General in advance, young master."

The Western Rong king's promise not to attack the Great Jin does not mean that the Great Jin army can come to the Western Rong's side. Luna hopes that Wei Jingzhuo can communicate with the Grand General and keep the army in check to avoid conflict.

Wei Jingzhuo said, "Yesterday I sent a letter to the General, informing him that this area is now Awan's fiefdom and the Jin army will not come to disturb the residents here."

The wagon stopped in front of a cluster of tents. This was the core settlement of the Chakala tribe, with a river flowing nearby.
