Chapter 135 Smooth Sailing

Ge Fanghai entered the county government office and hosted a banquet for Chu Yi. Chu Yi did not refuse and went to eat at the banquet.

Su Wan did not go; she followed the yamen as an attendant and stayed in the guest room in the backyard of the yamen, which was reserved for attendants.

A guard came to tell her that Chu Yi and Ge Fanghai were drinking and having a good time, and it seemed they were heading out into the evening. Su Wan couldn't help but wonder, how could Ge Fanghai, just a minor magistrate of Suiyang County, be involved with a prince of Southern Chu?

She asked the guards to investigate further, while she took out her tablet from the apartment to watch TV shows.

The tablet is fully charged, so I can continue watching the fantasy drama I was following.

She watched the latest episode, which featured the male supporting character accompanying the amnesiac female lead on a trip, and the female lead was very happy.

Su Wan thought to herself, "This scumbag is truly despicable. Just to get the female lead, he actually went so far as to make her lose her memory. If she really loses her memory, is she still the same female lead?"

When a man is attracted to a woman, is it because he likes her appearance or her soul?

From what she observed, men primarily judge women by their appearance. However, for a relationship to last, looks alone are insufficient. After all, beauty fades, and everyone grows old.

She decided not to think about these things anymore. Watching TV series was just for relaxation; she'd leave such profound questions to philosophers.

The male supporting character and the female lead were traveling together when the male supporting character suddenly fainted. The female lead then realized that the male supporting character's demonic inner core was the location of his life force. The male lead then appeared.

The male lead tells the female lead that the thing that can restore her memories is this demonic core, which is also the male supporting character's life force. The reason he doesn't restore the female lead's memories is that he will die once he uses the inner core.

Upon seeing this, Su Wan wiped away a tear for the male supporting character.

All that he did was to spend a short time with the female lead. And the most tragic thing is that this memory will also disappear after the female lead regains her memories.

She glanced back and saw there were still several episodes to go. It seemed the story wasn't over yet.

Just as I was about to continue reading, someone knocked on the door.

Su Wan put the tablet back in the apartment and then noticed that the room had become dim. She got up, turned on the light, and opened the door. There stood the thin, thief-like guard.

“Madam, I’ve gathered some information,” the guard said to her. “This magistrate of Suiyang County seems to be someone planted by Southern Chu in the northwest.”

"What?" Su Wan's eyes widened. "What do you mean by 'planting'?"

“Madam, it turns out that the magistrate of Suiyang is not this Ge Fanghai. He only took office two years ago,” the guard said. “Moreover, he seems to have dealings with a general from the General’s Mansion.”

Su Wan became even more suspicious.

A mere county magistrate could somehow be connected to the prince of Southern Chu and also have ties to a general in the General's Mansion. This person is no ordinary individual.

"Do you know who that general is?" she asked.

The guard shook his head: "I've only heard about this, but I don't know which person in the general's mansion it involves."

Su Wan said, "You don't need to do anything else. Just focus on investigating this matter, be careful, and make sure no one finds out."

The thin guard said, "Don't worry, Madam, this humble servant is an expert in this."

After the guards left, Su Wan looked at the sky. The sunset was ablaze with color, and the sun was about to set. The entire courtyard was shrouded in dim shadow.

She returned to the room and sat down to chew on the guard's report.

This Ge Fanghai is someone planted by the Southern Chu in the Northwest. He seems very much like a spy. So what is he doing here?

In her memory, Southern Chu and Great Jin seemed to have no animosity towards each other. Why would Southern Chu plant spies here?

We should probably ask Wei Jingzhuo about this.

She got up and went out of the house to the courtyard gate. There were two constables guarding the entrance, and the security seemed very tight. There was also a group of constables patrolling along the way with torches. One of the constables saw her standing at the gate and came over and said, "His Highness is drinking with our master. Please rest in the courtyard and do not wander around."

Su Wan had no choice but to go back inside and wait.

Su Heng had previously entered the yamen, and he might have been drinking with us. If we went out rashly, we might run into Su Heng, which would be bad.

She drank two cups of tea and went to the restroom once. Chu Yi finally returned.

He walked into the courtyard, swaying as he turned back and waved, saying, "No need to see me off, no need to see me off. I have servants to attend to me here."

The courtyard was brightly lit, and Ge Fanghai's voice came from outside: "Your Highness, please rest early. We can discuss the next steps in detail when the general arrives tomorrow."

Chu Yi waved and walked inside. The firelight outside gradually faded into the distance.

Seeing that he seemed quite drunk, Su Wan quickly closed the door.

Chu Yi leaned against the door and said with a grin, "You closed the door as soon as I came back. Are you afraid of me?"

“Why should I be afraid of you? I hate the smell of alcohol,” Su Wan said. “You’ve had too much to drink, go find somewhere to sleep.”

Chu Yi said, "I'm not sleeping, I've come to find you."

Su Wan blushed: "You still call yourself a decent person? Coming here so late at night?"

“Of course,” Chu Yi said, “You think I was drunk? I was just putting on an act. If you don’t act like you’re drunk, they’ll keep urging you to drink, sigh. You wouldn’t understand this, but have you forgotten what you’re supposed to do when you go to the county government office?”

Su Wan's heart skipped a beat, and she opened the door, asking, "Are you going to take me to the archives?"

Chu Yi stood up straight and pointed to his eyes: "Miss Su, look at me, do I look drunk?"

Su Wan looked into his eyes and, seeing that he was indeed not drunk, said, "Shall we go now?"
