She grabbed the letter and ran to the door, looking nervously outside.
Chu Yi, who was sitting on the stone bench outside the door, had vanished.
Now Su Wan was genuinely panicked. Chu Yi had come with her, so why had he left without even saying goodbye?
She held the letter in her hand, unsure whether to go forward or retreat.
There were no windows in the room, so she had no way to escape. Two constables guarded the door. Even if she were lucky enough to escape, she wouldn't have time to reach the courtyard where her guards were.
She steeled herself, put the letter in her pocket, grabbed the lantern, and opened the door.
The two constables didn't seem to find anything strange. One of them asked her, "Have you found it?"
Su Wan shook her head and pointed to the stone bench, implying that Chu Yi had gone there.
Another constable said, "You mean His Highness? He suddenly got up and left in a hurry. He said he had a stomachache..."
This made Su Wan even more confused.
While she was still in a daze, a woman's stern voice rang out from outside the courtyard: "Xiao Yi is here, isn't he?"
"Hehe, that's right." Ge Fanghai's voice said, "Your Highness, please walk slowly, the ground is uneven, be careful not to trip."
The door was pushed open, and a woman rushed in, surrounded by dozens of attendants, with Ge Fanghai following behind.
The woman was about twenty-five or twenty-six years old, with a beautiful face. She did not have the appearance of a Western Rong person, but she was dressed in the clothing of a Western Rong woman. Her gaze carried an air of authority.
She glanced around the courtyard and said to Ge Fanghai behind her, "Didn't you say he was here?"
Ge Fanghai looked at the courtyard in confusion and said, "It was just here a moment ago. How could it have disappeared? Could it be in the archives?"
The two constables said, "Your Excellency, His Highness just said he had a stomachache and left. Only his entourage remains here now."
“It’s alright,” the woman said, her gaze falling on Su Wan. She squinted as if examining her closely, then raised an eyebrow and said, “Are you my brother’s attendant? Come with me, I have something to ask you.”
After saying that, the woman ignored Su Wan and turned to walk out of the courtyard.
Su Wan was already feeling a little guilty, as she had the letter hidden in her arms. When the woman asked her to come along, she couldn't wait to leave. She quickly raised her lantern, walked past Ge Fanghai, and caught up with the woman.
Ge Fanghai wiped the sweat from his forehead and muttered to himself, "What's going on today? Why did everyone arrive early?"
