Chapter 146 Sister, you're truly elusive!

"I appreciate it, but you can't come into this room anymore."

Su Wan said to Chu Yi in a serious tone, while pointing to the door.

The place Chu Yi brought her to was indeed very safe. Neither Ge Fanghai nor that general would send troops to investigate.

The room was in a separate courtyard behind the county government office, and it was arranged by Ge Fanghai for Chu Yi.

She was safe, but she couldn't allow Chu Yi to stay in the room as well.

She thought Chu Yi might complain. After all, it was Chu Yi who was protecting her, yet she wanted him to leave the room.

However, Chu Yi didn't mind and laughed, "This is the safest room for you in the entire Suiyang County. Even Ge Fanghai can't enter without my permission. You sleep here, and I'll find a place outside myself."

Su Wan did not speak, but bowed slightly to Chu Yi.

After Chu Yi left, she sat down on the bed and stretched her sore legs and arms.

With Chu Yi's help, she finally experienced what it felt like to fly over rooftops and walk along the roof ridges to the county government office. Her arms and legs were exhausted.

Ge Fanghai and the general wanted to arrest her; her guards and Zhao Fu were safe, so she didn't need to worry about them. Now that she was in the county government office, no matter how much Ge Fanghai searched, he would never have imagined that the person he wanted to arrest was hiding in his own backyard.

But after settling down, she felt she couldn't just sit there like an idiot.

Ge Fanghai and that mysterious general are plotting against the General's Mansion. If she does nothing, Wei Jingzhuo may find himself in a very passive position.

Just as I was pondering what to do, the lights outside the window came on, and then Ge Fanghai's voice came from the courtyard.

"Your Highness, as long as you don't try to escape, I will not make things difficult for you. This courtyard was originally where your younger brother lived. He hasn't returned since he left, so why don't you stay here for the time being?"

Chu Mingyao said, "Since you intend to imprison us, why did you separate us?"

"Hehe, I was just worried that the two of you might be plotting something if you stayed together. It's better if you stay separately." Ge Fanghai arrived at the door and instructed his subordinates, "Open the door and let the Crown Princess come in to rest. Her three meals a day will continue as usual."

Chu Mingyao walked to the door, turned back to Ge Fanghai and said, "What you're doing is provoking a war. Tens of thousands of people will die because of your decision, do you know that?"

Ge Fanghai said, "Princess Consort, you know I was sent by His Majesty. Although you have married into the Western Rong, you are still a princess of Southern Chu. Once the plan succeeds, I will naturally escort you and His Highness the Crown Prince back to the Western Rong."

Chu Mingyao didn't say anything more and went into the room.

Ge Fanghai laughed and said, "I'm sorry, Third Princess. I really have no choice. Someone, lock all the doors and windows."

Two constables came over, locked the doors and windows with iron locks, and stood guard at the gate of the courtyard.

Ge Fanghai led the others out of the courtyard and said to the two constables, "You two keep watch here. If the Seventh Prince returns, inform me immediately." The constables nodded in agreement.

Chu Mingyao peeked through the crack in the door and saw that Ge Fanghai had already led his men away, but the door was locked and there were guards at the courtyard gate. Knowing that there was no way to escape, she sighed and turned back.

The room was not luxuriously furnished. In the center stood a screen with a landscape painting, behind which was a bed, and under the window was a desk.

"Xiao Yi, where are you?" Chu Mingyao slowly walked around the screen. "Are you with them too? Why are you avoiding me?"

The bed frame made a loud thud, as if something had hit it.

Chu Mingyao thought there was a mouse under the bed, and she was so frightened that she trembled all over and almost fell to the ground.

She has been terrified of mice since she was a child, and she still is.

Having finally regained her footing, she turned and ran towards the door. Reaching it, she pulled hard on the lock, but it rattled and wouldn't open. Panicked, she glanced around, then grabbed the broom leaning against the wall and held it in front of her face, shouting, "Don't come any closer!"

"Sister Chu, don't be afraid, it's me." Su Wan crawled out from under the bed, clutching her head.

She was startled when she heard Ge Fanghai enter the courtyard. With nowhere to hide, she quickly hid under the bed. She hadn't expected Chu Mingyao to be locked in this room. She wanted to go out and say hello, but accidentally bumped her head on the bed.

Upon hearing her voice, Chu Mingyao moved the broom aside and covered her mouth in surprise.

Su Wan stood up, about to speak, when Chu Mingyao pointed outside and waved to indicate that someone was outside. Su Wan understood and quickly slipped behind the screen.

Hearing Chu Mingyao shouting from inside the house, one of the guards outside came to the door with a torch and asked, "What's wrong? What's wrong?"

Chu Mingyao turned around and said, "I think I saw a mouse just now, that's why I screamed."

The constable peered through the crack in the door, but Chu Mingyao blocked the crack completely with a broom, so he couldn't see anything. He said impatiently, "Don't shout if there's nothing wrong."

Chu Mingyao said, "You go ahead, I need to rest."

After the constables left, Chu Mingyao quickly walked to the table, removed the lampshade, and blew out the candle with a puff. She groped her way around the screen in the dark, reaching out and whispering, "The small jar?"

Su Wan also reached out her hand, and the two sat down on the edge of the bed, their hands clasped together. Su Wan whispered, "Sister, please don't call me Little Jar anymore. I've already said that's a nickname Chu Yi gave me."

Chu Mingyao said, "How did you end up hiding in my brother's room? Could it be..."

“Sister, at a time like this, please stop joking,” Su Wan said. “The county government is currently searching for me. It was Chu Yi who brought me here to hide.”

Chu Mingyao asked curiously, "The county government is searching for you? Who exactly are you?"
