As the two were whispering to each other, a sedan chair carried by two men appeared in the distance. A servant from the general's mansion led the way and shouted to the guards at the gate, "Quickly go and report to the general that Doctor Zhang has arrived."
Su Wan didn't want to attract too much attention, so she pulled Wei Jingzhuo to stand to the side.
The sedan chair stopped at the entrance of the general's mansion. A servant lifted the curtain, and a man in full armor, wearing a helmet and carrying a medicine chest, came out.
Su Wan was taken aback and couldn't help but ask, "Is this a doctor? Why is he wearing armor?"
The man, who was about forty years old, turned to look at her when he heard her speak, then clasped his hands in a fist and bowed, saying, "No idea, so you're a fellow traveler."
Su Wan noticed the lisp in his voice and glanced at his mouth; he was missing a front tooth. Remembering what the servant had said earlier, could this be the same doctor who knocked out her front tooth last time?
Seeing her in a daze, Doctor Zhang cupped his hands and said, "Since this young gentleman is also waiting at the door, why don't you go first?"
Su Wan smiled and shook her head, saying, "Dr. Zhang, you're too kind. Please go first."
Dr. Zhang grunted in agreement, straightened his helmet with both hands, and stepped inside.
People die for money, birds die for food. If we can really cure Miss Meng, we'll have five thousand taels in hand, and we won't have to worry about anything for the rest of our lives.
Su Wan returned to the distance and pulled Wei Jingzhuo aside, saying, "This Dr. Zhang is missing a front tooth. He must be the one who was beaten up by Miss Meng last time he came for a consultation. He's quite bold, actually coming back again."
Wei Jingzhuo said, "We're not in a hurry; we can just wait and see."
After a short while, the gates of the General's Mansion opened, and several servants carried Doctor Zhang out on a stretcher, making a racket. Upon seeing Su Wan, one of the servants exclaimed, "Are you Doctor Su? Come and see Doctor Zhang, he seems to be dying."
Su Wan quickly walked over and asked, "What's wrong?"
Dr. Zhang was still wearing his armor, but he lay motionless on the stretcher, seemingly unconscious.
A servant said, "We don't know either. Doctor Zhang went to my young lady's room, and we were waiting outside when we heard a loud clang, like a bell being struck. Doctor Zhang ran out and collapsed to the ground like this."
Su Wan said, "Let me see, please move aside."
The servants put the stretcher down, and Su Wan squatted down to take a look. She noticed that Doctor Zhang's helmet was dented. She quickly reached out and took off Doctor Zhang's helmet, then pried open Doctor Zhang's eyelids to look at him, checked his breathing, and finally examined the area of impact.
The conclusion is that the fainting was caused by a mild concussion, and it should be nothing serious.
Miss Meng must be some kind of war goddess reincarnated! How much strength does she need to dent a helmet like that? Luckily, the helmet protected her, otherwise Dr. Zhang would be eating a feast today.
She told the servants, "It's alright. Doctor Zhang suffered a head injury, but it's not swollen. He'll be fine after about a week of bed rest."
The servants then calmed down and helped Doctor Zhang into the sedan chair and carried him away.
Su Wan returned to Wei Jingzhuo's side and whispered, "Ah Jin, let's run away quickly. This Miss Meng is too scary."
Thinking that if he were to go in to see Miss Meng, with his small frame, being hit and given a concussion would be the least of his worries.
Wei Jingzhuo said, "Alright, let's go back to the inn first and then discuss the next steps."
Just as the two were about to run away, the servant who had bought the pork knuckle for General Meng came out and called out, "Doctor Su, don't go! Come back! General Meng is inviting you in."
