Meng Ruliu wasn't as well covered up as she was; she wore a light blue short-sleeved shirt and trousers, and a black cotton cloak with a red lining.
"Sister, how can you walk in such heavy armor?" Meng Ruliu teased. "Who came up with this terrible idea? It couldn't have been His Highness, could it? If you're worried about getting hit by an arrow, you could just use a face shield."
Su Wan pulled Meng Ruliu over and said, "Sister-in-law, please don't make fun of me. The fight is about to start."
The city gates opened, and Yu She led five thousand soldiers out of the city and formed ranks. He rode his horse, brandishing a long spear, and shouted, "Yu She, the garrison commander of Xiping Pass, and Pan Long, come to meet your death!"
Pan Long laughed loudly: "Alright, I, Pan, will grant your wish."
The two riders charged face to face, their swords and spears clashing with a resounding clang as they passed each other. Both armies began to shout and beat drums in unison, the sound as loud as popping beans.
After watching two rounds, Meng Ruliu said to Meng Kuan, "Father, I'm afraid Yu She is not going to make it."
Meng Kuan also noticed something was wrong. Yu She was clearly weaker than his opponent. He could hold his own in the first two rounds, but later he started dodging the opponent's long sword. However, he was unwilling to call it quits after only one exchange.
While they were hesitating, the enemy's shouts suddenly intensified and then turned into cheers, while their own troops fell silent, even the drums stopped beating.
Pan Long laughed loudly, flicked the blood off his blood-stained longsword, and let the soldiers snatch back Yu She's body. He shouted to the city wall, "General Meng, so your men are such useless fools that they couldn't even last a few rounds."
Meng Kuan was furious and pointed at Pan Long, saying, "You scoundrel, just you wait! I'm coming down from the pass right now and I'll personally behead you!"
He was about to leave in a rage when Wei Jingzhuo reached out and stopped him, saying, "General Meng, wait! You are the commander guarding the pass; you cannot leave so easily."
Meng Ruliu also stopped Meng Kuan, saying, "Father, His Highness is right. Why should you risk your life to anger such a lowly person? Your daughter is not capable, but I am willing to go down the pass and fight for you."
Meng Kuan shook his head repeatedly: "Ru Liu, I know you've been practicing swordsmanship since you were little, but you've never been on a battlefield..."
Meng Ruliu smiled and said, "We don't usually have the chance."
Meng Kuan was still somewhat reluctant, but Meng Ruliu said, "If the enemy takes Xiping Pass, our whole family will have no way to survive. My mind is made up, Father, you don't need to say anything more."
She turned around and looked Su Wan up and down, saying, "Sister, the armor you're wearing fits me perfectly. Take it off." Then she ordered the soldier, "Bring me my hammer."
Su Wan quickly took off her armor and helped Meng Ruliu put it on, saying worriedly, "Sister, you must be careful."
She was deeply worried about Meng Ruliu's safety. But this was a real, life-or-death battle, unlike a game where you could restart. She also knew that this was no time for sentimentality, and could only urge Meng Ruliu to be careful.
Meng Ruliu donned her armor, and a soldier brought over two iron hammers. Su Wan recognized them as the ones Meng Ruliu had used to hit Doctor Zhang; they were actually a pair.
Meng Ruliu, with a hammer in each hand, descended from the pass, mounted his warhorse, and rode out of the city to the front of the army.
Pan Long looked at the female general before him. She was slender and graceful, with a red veil around her forehead, a frosty complexion, and phoenix eyes that held a hint of power. She wore silver-white fish-scale armor, held an iron hammer in each hand, and rode a chestnut horse. She did not look like a strong and powerful person at all.
He didn't believe the two hammers were real iron hammers either, and laughed loudly, "Meng Kuan, do you have no one to rely on but to send out a weak woman?"
Enraged, Meng Ruliu raised his iron hammer and pointed it at Pan Long, saying, "I am Meng Ruliu. Laugh in the afterlife."
After saying that, she spurred her horse and charged towards Pan Long. The horse's hooves flew, raising a cloud of dust.
On the city wall, Su Wan jumped up and shouted, "Beat the drums! Beat the drums! Let's cheer for my sworn sister!"
Wei Jingzhuo said, "Let's beat the drum to cheer on Miss Meng."
The soldiers on the city wall had been waiting with drumsticks in hand, and upon hearing the command, they all began to beat the drums. Dozens of large drums pounded loudly, the deep, heavy sound shaking even the pebbles on the battlefield.
Seeing Meng Ruliu rushing towards him, Pan Long was unimpressed, thinking to himself how much strength a woman could possibly have. Confident in his own strength, he simply raised his longsword, assuming a defensive stance, and said, "If you regret it now, General, I might spare you..."
Before he could finish speaking, Meng Ruliu had already galloped up to him on horseback, swinging her iron hammer in a wide arc with her left hand and smashing it into his long sword.
With a deafening crash, the sound was deafening.
Pan Long thought his longsword could easily block Meng Ruliu's hammer, but he didn't expect the hammer to be so powerful. Combined with the force of the warhorse's charge, it seemed to have the power of ten thousand jun, almost knocking his longsword out of his hand and leaving his chest wide open.
He sensed something was wrong and was about to pull back his longsword when Meng Ruliu's right hammer swept across with a whoosh and struck him on the head.
Blood splattered, as if ten thousand peach blossoms had bloomed.
