Chapter 196 My Step-Sister's Iron Hammer

Su Wan was startled by Meng Ruliu. Not wanting the person outside the door to notice anything amiss, she could only say, "Madam, are you having a difficult childbirth?"

Meng Ruliu held her belly with both hands and had two maids help her sit down on a chair by the bed. She said, "That's right. My baby is kicking and thrashing around in my belly, but it just won't come out. I was worried that something would go wrong if this continued, so I came to see you, Doctor."

After she finished speaking, she winked at Su Wan.

Su Wan immediately understood Meng Ruliu's unspoken meaning. Meng Ruliu was worried that she might be in danger and had come to help.

My sworn sister's actions were quite outrageous; fortunately, no one in Suiyang County knew her.

Doctor Kang had never met Meng Ruliu before and assumed she was truly experiencing a difficult childbirth. He said with difficulty, "Madam, we at Baohetang can prescribe medicine and treat illnesses, but we don't have a doctor who can deliver babies. You'll need to find a midwife. Shall I go out and find one for you?"

“So you don’t care about this,” Meng Ruliu said to the two maids with a disappointed look. “You two go with this doctor to fetch the midwife. I’ll wait here.”

Dr. Kang was about to leave when he remembered that there was still one person lying on the bed and three of their accomplices outside the door. He looked at Su Wan.

Su Wan gestured with her eyes, saying, "You guys should leave quickly. My sworn sister can handle things here."

Doctor Kang understood and hurriedly went downstairs with two maids.

The three people waiting outside saw Dr. Kang leave, and one of them quickly chased after him, saying, "Dr. Kang, didn't you say that inviting Dr. Mo would treat my friend's injury? Why did you leave?"

Dr. Kang flicked his sleeve and said, "Isn't there a woman having a difficult labor? I need to go and fetch a midwife."

The man chased after him for a few steps, but seeing that Doctor Kang didn't turn back, he had no choice but to turn back to the door and whisper to the other two, "What should we do? Should we wait a little longer?"

One of them said, "The doctors here are so slow in treating patients, we might as well just leave."

Another said, "Only Suiyang County has doctors heading towards Youzhou. We can't ignore Lao Qi's injuries."

The three whispered to each other at the door. Although Su Wan couldn't hear clearly, she could guess what they were saying.

She sat on the edge of the bed and smiled at the man lying on it, saying, "Your three companions seem to be discussing whether to take you away. I won't let you go. I'll ask you a few questions. You just need to answer yes or no. If yes, blink your left eye; if no, blink your right eye."

The man couldn't speak; he just stared at Su Wan.

Su Wan asked, "Was Su Yuze arrested by you?"

The man didn't blink; instead, he closed his eyes, looking as if he disdained to pay attention to Su Wan.

Meng Ruliu said, "Sister-in-law, should I interrogate him? If he doesn't speak, I'll break his bones."

Su Wan shook her head, walked to the table, took a few more silver needles and said, "Sister, I can handle this. I have a way of dealing with stubborn people like this."

Having studied medicine for so many years, she knew more than just how to acupuncture the Fengchi acupoint on the back of the neck. Since this person wouldn't tell her, she decided to try different acupuncture techniques on him.

Meng Ruliu said, "Okay, I'll watch the show."

Su Wan returned to the bedside, took out a silver needle, and waved it in front of the man: "I'll ask you one more time. Did you kidnap my younger brother, Su Yuze?"

When the man heard her ask that question, he suddenly opened his eyes and looked at her with disbelief.

Su Wan knew what he was surprised about and said, "That's right, I am Su Wan. Now you can answer my question, right?"

The man's body trembled, his muscles shook, and he made a slight sound in his throat, as if he were struggling.

Su Wan said, "Do you still want to call those three people outside for help? You're so stubborn!"

As she spoke, she raised her hand and plunged a needle into the man's collarbone. The man's body stiffened, as if he had suffered a severe blow; his expression was one of extreme pain, and tears streamed down his face.

Su Wan twirled the silver needles between two fingers: "Acupuncture can cure diseases, but it can also kill. As long as you tell me honestly, I won't torture you. This is just the mildest form of pain; there's more to come."

The man seemed to have been electrocuted, large beads of sweat appearing on his forehead. But with silver needles inserted into the back of his neck, he could neither move nor speak.

The three people outside discussed for a while, but when they heard no movement from inside, they became puzzled. One of them knocked on the door and said, "Dr. Mo?"

Su Wan's voice came from inside the room: "Don't worry, I'm examining the pregnant woman."

One of the other two said, "This is too reckless. Our people are still lying inside; it would be better if he could be checked in a different room."

The other one said, "Then let's go in."

The person knocking on the door quickly stopped them, saying, "There's a pregnant woman inside; we shouldn't go in."

The one who was being held back was somewhat angry and said in a low voice, "If we keep dawdling here, what if Suiyang County sends people again? Let's take Lao Qi and leave quickly."

The one who knocked on the door said, "That's true. Anyway, the bleeding from the seventh brother's wound has stopped for now. Once he joins His Highness's army, it's good to have the army doctors treat him."

He knocked on the door again and said, "Dr. Mo, madam. We have an urgent matter here and don't want to be treated here anymore. We'll go in now."

He had barely finished speaking when the pregnant woman's voice rang out from inside the room: "Hey, you bunch of filthy men, don't you have any manners? I'm about to give birth here, and you dare to come in and disturb me? Are you trying to harass an innocent woman in broad daylight?"

The person who knocked withdrew his hand upon hearing the knock and said to his two companions, "This is not a good idea; let's not go in."

The other two said, "Stop being so wishy-washy, we've already reminded you."

The three pushed open the door and filed into the room.

People queuing in the next clinic were talking when they suddenly heard a roar coming from the clinic at the end of the corridor. Attracted by the roar, everyone looked over.
