Chapter 198 Brother, I'm Here

"Doctor Mo, don't be afraid. We are royal guards of the Southern Chu Kingdom, not bandits or robbers. We will not harm you."

Su Wan squinted at the token and muttered, "What is this thing? I can't see it clearly. What are you Southern Chu people doing here?"

Captain Ning didn't say much, but instructed his men, "You two, help Old Seven down."

Another guard with a scimitar said, "Captain, should we go back to Suiyang County and rescue our men?"

Captain Ning said, "We've already fought a battle with them. They'll definitely be on high alert. Let's send Su Yuze to His Highness's army first, and then ask His Highness to send a cavalry force to Suiyang County to rescue him."

Everyone nodded in agreement and carried the seventh brother out, heading towards the mountainside.

Captain Ning said to Su Wan, "Dr. Mo, there's one more thing I need to ask you. We have a child here who's sick; could you take a look at him?"

Su Wan was secretly delighted, but on the surface she pretended to resist and said, "I've already delivered the person, I'm going back now."

Captain Ning blocked the car door and said, "Doctor Mo, please forgive my bluntness. We are escorting this child to the north and cannot reveal our whereabouts. Please come with us to His Highness's camp, and only then will you be allowed to leave."

Su Wan said, "I'm a doctor, my job is to treat patients and collect money. I don't care whether you're from the South or the North, I don't say anything carelessly."

Captain Ning smiled and said, "Dr. Mo, please get out of the car."

Su Wan then reached out and said, "Liu'er, help me out of the carriage. My legs are numb from sitting."

Meng Ruliu helped her out of the carriage. Su Wan looked up at the mountainside, where two thatched huts were visible among the bare branches, seemingly temporary dwellings for woodcutters or hunters. Dozens of horses were tethered beside the huts.

She, Meng Ruliu, and Lin Qingfeng walked up the mountain, surrounded by guards with curved swords in front and behind them.

Upon arriving at the thatched huts, Captain Ning pointed to one of the rooms and said, "The child is inside. Doctor Mo, please treat him quickly; we'll be leaving soon."

Su Wan's heart began to pound. She tried to appear nonchalant as she pushed open the wooden door and went inside. Captain Ning, along with several guards wielding curved swords, followed her into the room.

The hut was empty except for a wooden bed with a charcoal brazier beside it, which burned red-hot, yet the hut was bitterly cold. A biting wind howled through the cracks in the walls, making the whole hut shake.

Su Yuze lay on the bed, fast asleep with his eyes closed. He was covered with a tattered quilt, the cotton stuffing showing through.

Su Wan walked to the bedside, reached out and placed her hand on Su Yuze's burning forehead, looking at her younger brother's flushed face with heartache.

She desperately wanted to tell Su Yuze that his sister had arrived and was right beside him.

My younger brother is only nine years old. I don't know how he managed to get through so many days.

It was because she, as the older sister, was so incompetent that her younger brother suffered so much.

Unfortunately, she couldn't say anything. Behind her were the scimitar-wielding guards of Southern Chu. Once they discovered her identity, not only would they be unable to save Su Yuze, but she, Meng Ruliu, and Lin Qingfeng would also be doomed.

“The child has a fever,” she said calmly after taking Su Yuze’s pulse, suppressing her excitement. “He has probably caught a cold. I have medicine in my medicine box to expel the cold from his body.”

Captain Ning said, "Alright, Doctor Mo, please give him the medicine as soon as possible. We'll set off in half an hour, and Doctor Mo can leave once we see His Highness."

Su Wan took off her cotton cloak and covered herself with the quilt. She got up and said, "This room is too cold. It's not good for the baby to recover. We need to add another charcoal brazier. I'll brew the medicine here."

Captain Ning hesitated, "There are only three charcoal braziers here..."

"Aren't you about to leave? Bring all the charcoal braziers over!" Su Wan raised her voice. "You grown men are all full of energy, why are you arguing with a sick child?"

Captain Ning hadn't expected her to suddenly lose her temper. Thinking she was just acting out of concern for her as a doctor, he quickly turned around and ordered, "Go, bring the other two charcoal braziers over."

Su Wan turned around and tucked the blanket around Su Yuze.

Su Yuze seemed to be startled by her movement, shook his head from side to side, and spoke in a low voice.

He didn't open his eyes; it seemed he was just talking in his sleep. Su Wan bent down and put her ear close to his mouth, hearing him murmur, "I have to hold on, I still want to see my sister. I have to hold on..."

Su Wan looked up at the roof.

Tears are already welling up in your eyes; tilting your head back can prevent them from falling.
