Chapter 200 A Reunion on a Winter Night

“Sister hit him,” Su Wan laughed. “I whipped Su Heng with a thorny branch until he was rolling on the ground. Then I made Yang Shi slap herself until her face was all swollen…”

Su Yuze felt relieved and laughed, "Sister, I haven't met brother-in-law yet. What does he look like?"

“Him,” Su Wan wrinkled her nose, “he’s just so-so. He acts all high and mighty, always with a long face, like someone owes him money.”

Meng Ruliu burst out laughing: "Whether Your Highness was before or after being deposed, you were a handsome man renowned throughout the land. What you're saying makes you sound exactly like a scumbag."

"You wouldn't believe it, this guy seems aloof on the surface, but he's not like that at all."

As Su Wan spoke, she recalled the passionate night she spent with Wei Jingzhuo, and her face flushed red.

Seeing her blush, Meng Ruliu's interest was piqued, so she simply sat down next to her and said, "Sister-in-law, you said it wasn't like that, so what was it? Tell me in detail?"

Su Yuze also sat up and said, "Sister, I want to hear too."

"Go away, go away," Su Wan said shyly, pushing Meng Ruliu away. "You sit over there. I just mentioned it casually. You kept asking about it. My brother is right here."

Su Yuze couldn't understand their conversation, and even tried to persuade Meng Ruliu: "Sister Meng, why don't you let me listen? I'll tell you after I finish listening."

Su Wan was both amused and exasperated. She poked Su Yuze's forehead with her finger and said, "Lie down. Children should sleep obediently. You have a fever, that's good. Are you hungry?"

Su Yuze pulled the blanket up to cover half of his face, leaving only his two big, dark eyes showing, and nodded: "Hungry."

Su Wan took out a dozen flatbreads from the cabinet in the carriage, squeezed them, and said, "Your fever has just subsided, so you can't eat such hard food. When the convoy stops, I'll go and get you some hot meat soup."

She had barely finished speaking when the carriage stopped.

"Soldiers, dismount!" Captain Ning's voice came from inside the carriage. "His Highness has arrived!"

Su Wan's heart stirred, and she stuffed the flatbread into Meng Ruliu's hands, pulling open a crack in the heavy cotton curtain to peek outside.

The caravan had long since left the mountains and entered the open plains. The sky was filled with stars, and a cold wind howled as it seeped in through the gaps in her open carriage. All the cavalrymen had dismounted and stood at attention by the roadside, and hundreds of torches rattled and swayed in the wind.

Ahead of the carriage, a fully armored general emerged from the darkness on horseback and galloped toward them.

His helmet and armor were fiery red, gleaming brightly in the night, and a gleaming silver lance hung from his saddle. The sharp tip reflected the firelight like a constantly shimmering mirror. Behind him, dozens of cavalrymen carrying rectangular red battle flags followed closely.

"The Curved Blade Guards pay their respects to Your Highness!" Captain Ning shouted first. Another general followed suit, shouting, "The Southern Chu Cavalry pay their respects to Your Highness!"

Su Wan stood up without hesitation and went to open the car door.

Meng Ruliu grabbed her arm and said, "Sister-in-law, perhaps we have another way to escape. Don't be reckless."

Su Wan firmly pushed Meng Ruliu away and said, "Everyone is in this predicament because of my poor planning. Since he's here, let me go and talk to him."

She opened the carriage door, jumped off, and closed it. Only then did she walk towards the red-armored general galloping towards her in the cold wind.

"Brother Chu," she called out.

The general reined in his horse and slowly pushed up the mask covering his face.

Su Wan stood in the wind, gazing at Chu Yi's face, which remained unchanged.

He taught her how to walk on the rooftop, and he personally retrieved the land deed for Baohetang and handed it to her. The two ate and drank heartily in the restaurant and gossiped about the county magistrate on the rooftop.

When she and Chu Mingyao were at their wits' end, it was he who protected them. When they were surrounded by the enemy on a small hill, it was he who fought desperately to keep her safe.

Now, when they meet again, their voices and appearances remain the same, but they have become enemies.
