The messenger read it, nodded in satisfaction, took out a cover, folded the letter, put it inside, sealed it with sealing wax, and put it in his pocket. He said to Huiming, "The first task the goddess entrusted to me is complete."
Huiming asked, "Is there a second thing?"
The messenger took out a flask of wine from his robes and placed a bolt of white silk on the table: "This is the second thing the goddess instructed us to do."
Huiming looked up and felt dizzy; he almost fainted.
The messenger said, "You're a smart man, so I don't need to explain. Choose one yourself; I need to go back to the goddess tonight to report."
Huiming then understood the true meaning behind Qiu Jie no longer needing her to write letters.
Her knees buckled, and she knelt on the ground, saying, "My lord, I have always done as the goddess instructed, and I have never disobeyed her in the slightest. Please have mercy and spare my life. When Shao'er returns, I will have him promote you to a higher rank and title."
The envoy sneered, "I forced you to commit suicide, and you say your son will promote me and grant me a higher rank?"
Huiming knew she couldn't persuade the messenger, so she got up and tried to escape. The messenger grabbed her by the back of her collar, pulled her back, choked her neck, pressed her onto the table, and poured wine into her mouth.
Huiming clenched her teeth tightly and refused to open her mouth. The messenger tried to pry her open with his fingers, but she almost bit him, which angered him.
He put down the wine jug, took out a dagger from his waist, and pried Huiming's mouth open by inserting the tip of the blade between his teeth, causing blood to flow freely.
Huiming cried out for help in despair, and the messenger took the opportunity to pick up the wine jug and pour it into her mouth.
Jingyuan returned to her room, not yet asleep. She heard Huiming's cries for help outside, but she didn't get up. Instead, she turned over, closed her eyes, and murmured, "I told you so."
Huiming's screams lasted only a few breaths before falling silent.
