A thin green light swept across the battlefield atop Xiping Pass, then flickered across Chu Yi's face.
Chu Yi subconsciously raised his hand to shield himself, and only after finding that it was harmless did he look up at the city wall in surprise.
Not only him, but also the generals around him and Qiu Jie were all alarmed by that strange green light.
Chu Yi stepped forward and looked closely at the city wall. He discovered that the green light seemed to be emanating from a hand grasping something. The hand was not covered by armor, and in the light of the torches on the city wall, it appeared to be a woman's hand.
He waved his hand and said, "Cease the attack immediately."
The generals were shocked and exclaimed, "The city is about to fall, why did Your Highness give this order?"
Military orders are absolute. Although everyone was full of doubts, they still let the messengers call out the orders one after another. The Southern Chu archers holding powerful bows released their bowstrings, and the Southern Chu soldiers who were charging with shields stopped and stood below the city, looking up at the green light.
The garrison at Xiping Pass on the city wall also stopped. The battlefield, which had been filled with deafening shouts of battle, suddenly fell silent. Everyone, whether defenders or attackers, was drawn to that green light.
The green light went out, and a woman slowly stood up.
Chu Yi saw the woman's face clearly and said with delight, "It really is Miss Su."
Qiu Jie also saw Su Wan, her hands, hidden under her wide sleeves, clenched into fists, and she said, word by word, "Su, Wan."
Su Wan asked, "Brother Chu, can we stop the attack?"
The soldiers inside and outside the city remained silent, only Su Wan's soft voice echoed throughout the battlefield, sounding exceptionally clear.
Qiu Jie sneered, "That's ridiculous. The city walls have already been breached; do you still think you can stop the failure?"
Chu Yi glanced at the generals around him and said to Su Wan, "The walls of Xiping Pass have been breached. If you surrender outside the city, I can spare your lives."
Su Wan said, "Ah Jin will never surrender. I just want you to withdraw your troops and go back."
Before Chu Yi could reply, his subordinates could no longer contain themselves. One of them jumped out, pointed at Su Wan, and said, "You, a woman, dare to demand that His Highness withdraw his troops? On what grounds?"
Su Wan raised an object in her right hand and said in a louder voice, "Because I am the real one..."
Before Su Wan could finish speaking, a figure rushed over, grabbed her right hand and pressed it down, while simultaneously kissing her lips, silencing her from saying anything more.
It all happened so fast that Su Wan hadn't even had time to react before she was pulled into someone's arms. His lips possessively captured hers. His cool tongue slid into her mouth, his warm breath brushed against her face, and his fiery passion swept over her violently.
She was completely stunned.
She never expected Wei Jingzhuo to kiss her in such a life-or-death situation, especially with so many people watching below.
Her heart raced, her breathing quickened, and she began to resist, but his kisses only grew deeper and more intense.
His hands gripped her waist tightly, as if trying to meld her into his body. She could only helplessly endure the onslaught of his lips, each thrust carrying an irresistible passion and power.
Qiu Jie watched the two people embracing and kissing above from below the city wall. Her body trembled slightly, and her fingernails dug deep into the skin of her palms, with drops of blood dripping from the edges of her hands.
Then she turned around, with her back to the city wall.
When Wei Jingzhuo released Su Wan, Su Wan's face turned bright red, her eyes became glazed, she gasped for breath, and stared blankly at him.
"If a man needs a woman to save him, he might as well be dead."
After Wei Jingzhuo finished speaking, he strode to the front of the battlements, pointed at Chu Yi, and said, "Chu Yi, I admire your strategy. We once had the opportunity to compete. If you consider yourself a hero, do you dare to fight me to the death on the battlefield?"
Chu Yi looked at Wei Jingzhuo and pondered for a moment.
Qiu Jie turned around and said to him, "Are you scared?"
Chu Yi glanced at Qiu Jie, took a few steps forward, and said loudly to Wei Jingzhuo, "If you are defeated by an unknown soldier, I bet you will not accept the defeat. Fine, I accept the challenge."
"You must avenge me yourself," Qiu Jie said, taking the horse reins from the soldier and handing them to Chu Yi. "Let me see you stab him off his horse."
Su Wan, who was on the city wall, was quite frightened and said to Wei Jingzhuo, "Ah Jin, you are injured."
She knew exactly how skilled Chu Yi was in martial arts. Even someone as formidable as Meng Ruliu couldn't last a single round against Chu Yi. Wei Jingzhuo's back wound hadn't even been treated yet; how could he possibly defeat Chu Yi, who was currently at the peak of his power?
She tried to stop him, but Wei Jingzhuo had already descended the city wall. Soldiers brought over warhorses, and Wei Jingzhuo mounted one, taking off his spear.
When the Southern Chu army outside the city saw that the two commanders were about to fight to the death, they all retreated, formed their battle formations, and began to beat their war drums.
Chu Yi, clad in red armor, rode a white horse and carried a long spear to the open space. Wei Jingzhuo, in silver armor, rode a yellow-maned horse and also carried a long spear. The two exchanged a salute with their spears in the open space, then spurred their horses to gallop backward to create distance.
Su Wan knew that Wei Jingzhuo did not want her to show the jade pendant, so she said to the soldiers on the city wall, "Do you still have the strength? Quickly beat the drum to cheer for A Jin."
The soldiers laid down their weapons and began to beat their war drums to cheer on Wei Jingzhuo; the sound of the drums from both sides was like popping beans.
Su Wan dared not look, so she squatted down with her back against the city wall and covered her eyes with her hands.
Meng Ruliu's anxious voice rang out beside her: "Sister, so you're here. Get up quickly, His Highness is about to duel with Chu Yi."
Su Wan looked up at Meng Ruliu and said, "Sister-in-law, you're awake. I can't bear to look."
Meng Ruliu said, "I just woke up, and my head hurts so much. I was originally planning to go and plug the gap, but I didn't expect everyone to suddenly stop fighting. This is a duel, so why don't you watch?"
