Su Wan couldn't remember which book she had read that sentence in.
If I gain it, I am fortunate; if I lose it, it is my fate.
Losing the Resurrection Pendant meant she could no longer prove her identity as a goddess, which was a relief for her.
She once told Wei Jingzhuo, "Actually, whether your surname is Wei or Lu, I don't care. I just want to live a simple and ordinary life with you..."
When Wei Jingzhuo learned that she had lost her jade pendant, he said to her in the same way, "Whether Awan is a goddess or not, I will never let you leave me."
In truth, she didn't care about this thing at all. Both the Western Rong people and the soldiers of the Great Jin called her the Goddess, not because she had this jade pendant, but because she had indeed healed many wounded people, and she deserved this title.
"Little sister, there's a river ahead!"
Chu Mingyao's exclamation pulled her out of her reverie, and when she came to her senses, she realized that there was a large river in front of her.
The cold wave had long since passed, and the ice on the river had thawed. The floating ice floes collided with each other in the rushing river, making a dull sound.
The snowflake beneath her was a fine horse; it wasn't foolish enough to jump directly into the river, but instead braked suddenly at the riverbank and ducked. Su Wan was thrown out by the inertia, landing in a front flip.
Fortunately, she held onto the reins with both hands, so she only landed on her bottom.
She breathed a sigh of relief and lay sprawled out on the ground covered with tender green grass. Snowflakes nuzzled her face with their noses, as if to say, "Why are you so distracted? Are you going to drown yourself?"
The sound of horses' hooves echoed behind her as Chu Mingyao and Meng Ruliu rode up to her.
Meng Ruliu jumped off his horse, picked her up and brushed off the dust, saying, "Sister, what are you standing there for? You just charged straight into the river. None of us can swim. If you fell in, you'd be dead for sure."
Chu Mingyao said, "Don't get distracted when learning to ride a horse."
Su Wan said, "I'm sorry, I... I was thinking about the lost jade pendant."
Chu Mingyao handed the reins of Xuehua to Meng Ruliu and said, "Miss Meng, please take care of the horse. I'll keep my sister company for a while."
Meng Ruliu took the reins from the three horses and said, "Then I'll go arrange lunch first, you can chat slowly." After saying that, she led the horses towards the tents in the distance.
Chu Mingyao held Su Wan's hand and said, "Let's walk along the river."
Su Wan nodded and said, "Sister Chu, is the Goddess really that important to your Southern Chu?"
Chu Mingyao said, "Of course it is very important, but only for the seventh brother who will inherit the throne. This is the sacred instruction of our ancestors, which our Southern Chu royal family must abide by. Every emperor of Southern Chu has married a goddess as his empress."
Even if the goddess is already married?
“I think so,” Chu Mingyao said. “All the goddesses of the past grew up in families of divine healers. There has never been a precedent of a soul swapping after marriage. My sister is the first.”
She smiled at Su Wan and said, "Sister, you've been unwilling to admit that you have a jade pendant because you're afraid that Seventh Brother will take you back to Southern Chu if he finds out?"
Su Wan said, "Yes. I only want to be with A Jin and don't want to be separated from him... Brother Chu insisted on taking me back to Southern Chu, and A Jin almost fought with him. I don't want them to fight to the death."
Chu Mingyao said, "Wasn't Qiu Jie already recognized as a goddess? Is her resurrection pendant fake? Is she not a real goddess?"
Su Wan said, "I don't know either. Maybe mine was the fake one. Anyway, it's already lost."
Chu Mingyao smiled and said, "Judging from your description, what you possess should be the Resurrection Pendant. That's strange, how come Qiu Jie also has one? I remember Father Emperor telling me that there is only one Resurrection Pendant."
Taking the opportunity, Su Wan asked, "Sister Chu, what secret does this Resurrection Pendant hold? Why do your Southern Chu royal family and families of renowned physicians value it so much?"
Chu Mingyao said, "The Resurrection Pendant has the ability to bring the dead back to life and can cure injuries and illnesses that are incurable in the world. If the one Qiu Jie has is a fake, she will not be able to use this ability."
Su Wan didn't believe it and asked, "What if that person has been dead for several days and has already started to decompose?"
“Of course, they can’t be saved,” Chu Mingyao said with a smile. “As long as that person has a breath left, a family of divine doctors can bring him back to life. But I don’t quite understand how they do it.”
Su Wan still didn't believe it: "I just feel it's unlikely. What if that person has a massive hemorrhage..."
“Sister doesn’t know medicine, so I’ll have to ask someone from a family of renowned doctors,” Chu Mingyao said. “There seems to be someone from a family of renowned doctors in Seventh Brother’s army, named Jiang Wenpei.”
Su Wan said, "I don't dare to ask."
The two arrived at a small earthen slope. Before them, the great river stretched out like a winding yellow ribbon under the midday sun, with ice floes bobbing on its surface. On the opposite bank, the land was a vibrant green, and herds of cattle and sheep grazed on the grassland like black and white clouds.
Su Wan sorted out her thoughts and said to Chu Mingyao, "I think I understand now. The Resurrection Pendant can save critically ill patients. As long as the goddess takes this pendant and makes a request to the family of divine healers, the family of divine healers will come to the rescue."
“That’s about right,” Chu Mingyao knelt down and gently stroked the grass with her hand. “However, when I was little, I heard my father say that the Resurrection Pendant’s ability can only be used once per generation of goddess.
Su Wan asked, "Then my mother has never used this ability?"
Chu Mingyao said, "Until I married Your Highness, the family of divine healers had never treated anyone. If your mother was the previous goddess, she would not have used this ability."
Su Wan was puzzled.
Why doesn't your mother, who was a goddess in the previous generation and also possessed the Resurrection Pendant, use that power to heal your illness?
Upon further reflection, she realized that for her mother to heal her, she would have to contact the family of renowned healers, which would mean being captured and taken back. Regardless of her reasons for escaping from Southern Chu, it was clear that her mother did not want to return.
