Meng Ruliu chased after it for a while, and the snowflakes finally slowed down and stopped in a clearing in the forest.
The roar of the tiger behind them could no longer be heard. Meng Ruliu stopped, panting, put Su Wan and Chu Mingyao on the ground, and sat down with a thud, saying, "My god, I've never run so fast in my life."
After catching her breath, Su Wan, her heart still pounding, said, "That really scared me to death."
Chu Mingyao wiped the sweat from her forehead, gathered her loose hair, and said, "This is the first time in my life I've been so close to a tiger."
Meng Ruliu gasped, "Sister, I'm not afraid of people. But when the tiger appeared, I... my legs went weak with fear. Luckily, we escaped."
“I’m scared too,” Su Wan said. “Qingfeng is blocking the tiger by himself, but he’s in danger. We have to go back and help him.”
Meng Ruliu said, "My copper whip is still on the saddle."
Su Wan said, "Why aren't the two elderly people in the car making any noise? Sister Yi, help me up, I'll go check on them."
Meng Ruliu helped Su Wan up, and Su Wan entered the carriage, where she found that both the Duke and Duchess Bai had fainted. Fortunately, Xuehua had been running along the road and hadn't caused the carriage to crash into any trees, otherwise she would have suffered a concussion from the fall.
She checked and confirmed that the Duke and Duchess Bai were unharmed before returning to Chu Mingyao's side with peace of mind.
Chu Mingyao rubbed her shoulders and said to Meng Ruliu, "Miss Meng, we can't help even if we go. This is the beast-taming technique of a family of divine doctors. I've only heard my father mention it, but I never expected to actually see it today."
Meng Ruliu said, "Is a family of divine healers really that powerful? They can actually control wild beasts?"
Chu Mingyao said, "Father said that the ability of the Divine Physician Family to control wild beasts is just an insignificant skill; their true abilities are far more terrifying. The ancestors of Southern Chu once wanted to use these powers to expand their territory, but the Divine Physician Family seemed uninterested in them and did not agree."
Su Wan asked, "Besides beast taming, do families of divine healers have other abilities?"
Chu Mingyao said, "I've only heard my father mention it; I don't know what other abilities they have."
Su Wan sighed and lay down sprawled out in the grass: "Jiang Wenpei sent tigers to stop us, which means the family of divine healers has begun to help the Southern Chu Kingdom. How are we supposed to get there?"
Chu Mingyao said, "Sister, the more this is the case, the more we have to go. It must be Bai Zhiyi who asked the Divine Physician Family to intervene in this war. If we don't stop her, more people will die."
Su Wan took two deep breaths, jumped up, and said, "Sister Chu is right. Knowing there are tigers in the mountains, yet still heading towards them, let's go back."
Meng Ruliu said, "What if... what if those two tigers were still here?"
Su Wan said, "We'll figure something out later. I can't leave Qingfeng there alone."
Lin Qingfeng was a loyal guard who had always protected her safety. Thinking of the potential danger he might face, Su Wan couldn't help but feel anxious.
Chu Mingyao said, "Not only do we need to go back, but we also need to hurry. Jiang Wenpei has already discovered our whereabouts. If he reports this to Father Emperor, I'm afraid I won't be able to see him again."
Meng Ruliu said, "Don't rush, let me make a weapon. In case we encounter tigers again, I can help you."
She found a thick tree branch, used a dagger to cut off the excess branches and leaves to make a stick, and then used a rope to firmly tie the dagger to the end of the stick, making a spear. It was better than fighting empty-handed.
Chu Mingyao and Meng Ruliu boarded the carriage, and Su Wan drove it herself, hurrying back the way they came.
After walking for a while, Duke Bai and his wife also regained consciousness. It turned out that the two old people had also fainted from fright when they first heard a tiger roar, but fortunately nothing serious happened.
Knowing that Lin Qingfeng had stopped the tiger, Bai's mother said, "How can he deal with two tigers by himself? We can't help even if we go."
Meng Ruliu said, "Madam, don't worry. If I encounter a tiger again, I'll dare to fight it."
Su Wan drove the carriage carefully to the place where the tiger had appeared. From a distance, she could see a dead tiger lying in the grass. Jiang Wenpei, Lin Qingfeng, and another tiger were nowhere to be found.
Meng Ruliu got out of the car first to scout ahead, and only after confirming that there was no danger did she call everyone over.
After everyone got off the car, Meng Ruliu went to the dead horse to retrieve the bronze whip.
Chu Mingyao mustered her courage and examined the dead tiger. She said to Su Wan, "Sister, this tiger was killed by Guard Lin. It had a sword wound in its abdomen."
Su Wan and Meng Ruliu also came over to watch, and saw that the tiger's belly had been slashed open by a sharp weapon, and its intestines were exposed.
Meng Ruliu said, "Guard Lin is indeed worthy of being His Highness's chief guard; he actually managed to kill one."
"Where is Qingfeng?" Su Wan looked at the bloodstains on the ground, got up uneasily and looked around. "Could he have been carried off by another tiger?"
Chu Mingyao said, "Sister, I know you are worried about Guard Lin's safety, but we must go to the capital immediately."
Su Wan knew there was no time to search for Lin Qingfeng's whereabouts. Escorting the Duke and Duchess Bai to the capital of Southern Chu and revealing Bai Zhiyi's identity was the most important thing now. This matter determined the lives of thousands.
She gritted her teeth and said, "Sister Chu is right, let's go."
The carriage traveled uphill along the mountain road until it reached the summit. Su Wan disembarked and let Xuehua graze and rest.
The sun was setting in the west, casting rays of light across the sky. Su Wan looked down at the Southern Chu capital city bathed in the evening glow, its streets crisscrossing and brightly lit. Although not as large as the capital, it was still a bustling city.
“Sister, you see,” Chu Mingyao said, standing next to her. “So many people live in this city. If we hadn’t stopped Bai Zhiyi, the scenery might have looked completely different.”
