On the parade ground, two thousand soldiers from Southern Chu had just been injected with a secret medicine.
They were all soldiers who voluntarily received injections of the secret medicine from a family of divine healers.
Some men clutched their heads, their bones creaking. Others gasped for breath, their faces flushed, kneeling on the ground tearing at their clothes. Still others roared, their muscles visibly bulging beneath their sleeves.
"Soldiers, the Great Jin army is at our gates," Chu Kai said, spreading his arms wide. "Only we warriors can protect the Southern Chu Kingdom. Let us tear them apart!"
The soldiers all looked up and let out strange roars. The roars were deafening, and the warhorses beside the square retreated in fright.
Chu Kai mounted his horse, a large shield in his left hand and an eighty-pound halberd in his right, and charged out of the reviewing stand towards the city gate. Soldiers followed suit, mounting their horses and rushing off like a whirlwind.
Qiu Jie watched their retreating figures and let out a soft laugh.
"Miss Qiu, what have you done?" Jiang Wenpei's angry voice came from behind her.
Qiu Jie glanced back and saw Jiang Wenpei panting heavily, as if he had run all the way here.
She said calmly, "So it's Mr. Jiang. Didn't I ask you to set up the defenses outside the city? Did you discover any trace of a spy?"
Jiang Wenpei's face was ashen as he stared at the empty syringes scattered across the square: "I repeatedly told you that this secret medicine could only be used in doses for every ten people, and it was meant for 20,000 soldiers. You...you actually had them injected with the entire vial of the secret medicine?"
Qiu Jie said, "That's right. The Fifth Prince felt that the power was not enough and asked to be injected with the whole dose. Of course, I had to listen to him."
"Can't you see what's happening?" Jiang Wenpei pointed excitedly towards the palace. "This was just an experimental medicine from a family of divine healers. Look at what they've become. He killed his father, and you're still so indifferent."
Qiu Jie said coldly, "Mr. Jiang, that's not right of you."
Jiang Wenpei was taken aback: "What did you say?"
Qiu Jie said, "It was you who promised to help me against the Great Jin army, and you also gave me the medicine. How was I supposed to know that an overdose would drive people mad? Once it happened, what could I do but watch? Do you expect a weak woman like me to stop these people?"
Jiang Wenpei had no way to refute it, and stamped his foot, saying, "I really shouldn't have used these medicines. I didn't expect the consequences to be so serious."
This was also his first time using these medicines, and he had no idea what the consequences of an overdose would be. The family head, Jiang Yan, had only told him that one dose was enough for ten people, but no one knew what the effects of an overdose would be.
Qiu Jie smiled and said, "Sir, the Great Jin army has already reached the gates of the capital. If the Divine Physician Family doesn't take action soon, once Southern Chu is destroyed, the royal bloodline will be cut off. Your family head said that the most important thing for the Divine Physician Family is to preserve its bloodline. Isn't that right?"
“Yes…you’re right,” Jiang Wenpei said, bowing his head. “But things didn’t go as I planned.”
Qiu Jie said, "Sir, you didn't see the Fifth Prince. He lifted a 700-pound stone lion in one go. With such strength on the battlefield, who could stop him? To protect the Southern Chu Kingdom, we must rely on this kind of strength."
"But……"
“The army led by the Fifth Prince is strong enough, but not enough,” Qiu Jie said. “Sir, we need more medicine to protect the capital of Southern Chu and preserve the royal bloodline. Shouldn’t we also bring out the armor you mentioned?”
Jiang Wenpei said, "Those suits of armor weigh two hundred pounds each, and ordinary people simply cannot wear them."
“They were forged to be used with this potion,” Qiu Jie said. “Only when they wear the armor will they be a truly invincible army. Let’s go to the Holy Land and bring the armor over.”
Jiang Wenpei's eyes lit up, and he said, "The patriarch should have already healed the Seventh Prince. If the Seventh Prince comes out, he might be able to repel the enemy army, and we won't need to mobilize these troops."
Qiu Jie said, "Sir, you'd better help me defeat the Jin army first. Don't forget that this is what the patriarch promised me."
Jiang Wenpei shook his head and said, "Alright, let's go to the Holy Land."
...
Under the cover of night, Su Wan gripped the reins of Xuehua and shouted, "Xuehua, run!"
The bright moonlight shone on the road ahead, snowflakes tumbled and flew, and the trees on both sides of the road kept receding.
"Sister, there's a fork in the road ahead, take the right one." Meng Ruliu was behind her, one arm around her waist, the other holding a map drawn by Chu Mingyao, pointing out the direction.
Xuehua ran very fast. Before Meng Ruliu could finish speaking, they had already reached the fork in the road. Su Wan pulled the reins to the right, and Xuehua turned into the small path on the right.
"I hope we can inform His Highness in time," Meng Ruliu said. "Will it be alright to leave the Third Princess and Duke Bai in that village?"
Su Wan said, "There's no other way. If we take them with us, how will we get back in time? We can only leave Sister Chu and the others there for now. We need to get back as soon as possible to inform A Jin."
Upon learning that the Fifth Prince, Chu Kai, had been injected with a potion provided by a family of divine healers and had transformed into a monster with terrifying power, she panicked.
We must tell Wei Jingzhuo immediately.
Their horses had all been lost or killed when they encountered the tiger. The horses in the village were all inferior and couldn't run fast at all. The only one who could get back as quickly as possible was Xuehua. She made a decision to let Chu Mingyao and the Duke and Duchess Bai stay in the village.
The fourth prince of Southern Chu learned of her identity and, on behalf of the Southern Chu Kingdom, expressed his willingness to cease hostilities and surrender.
The only problem now is that Chu Kai won't agree and is already organizing an army to attack Wei Jingzhuo. This army has been injected with some kind of mysterious potion, turning into an extremely terrifying monster army. Wei Jingzhuo, however, is completely unaware of this.
