When Qiu Jie's group arrived at the Ghost Army's camp, the camp gates did not open immediately. Shouts from soldiers echoed from behind the camp walls, as if wild beasts roamed inside rather than humans.
The Southern Chu soldiers at the front were somewhat afraid and dared not move forward in front of the camp gate.
Qiu Jie sat silently on the imperial carriage, while Jiang Wenpei stood with his hands behind his back, his brows furrowed. Xie Maoliang, as a subordinate, had no choice but to bite the bullet and order his soldiers, "They're probably eating... Go and call for the camp gates to be opened."
The soldier knew he was talking nonsense, but military orders were hard to disobey, so he slowly walked to the door and cupped his hands into a microphone.
"The goddess has arrived, inside..."
Before he could finish speaking, the camp gate burst open with a bang, and shattered planks struck him, causing his body to curl up like a shrimp as he collapsed to the ground, howling in pain. Two demon soldiers clad in black armor tumbled out of the gate, embracing each other, followed by a swarm of demon soldiers who rushed out with strange cries to watch the two fight.
The Southern Chu soldiers who were close to the ghost army retreated one after another, and even the soldiers carrying the dragon carriage retreated.
Two ghost soldiers rolled on the ground, one pinning the other down and raising his fist to smash it into the other's head. The one pinned down tilted his head, and his fist slammed into the stone slab buried in the ground, shattering the stone into several pieces.
The onlookers, including the demons, roared with excitement.
The one who was pinned down refused to back down. He grabbed the arm of the person on top of him with one hand, used the other to support his body, flipped the person off, stood up, picked up a huge boulder weighing over a hundred pounds, and smashed it down on the head of the person on the ground. The person on the ground raised his arm to block, the boulder split in two, and dust rose everywhere.
The onlookers thought the two were just sparring, but they were clearly aiming to kill each other. The demon army watching seemed completely indifferent to their fates, only interested in witnessing a bloody battle.
Jiang Wenpei said, "Miss Qiu, the side effects of the secret medicine are getting more and more serious. If they are injected again, they will completely lose their minds."
Qiu Jie said, "It's obvious, but the effects of the secret medicine are about to wear off. If we don't continue injecting them, they won't be able to take Yanxun Pass. Someone, come here."
Xie Maoliang approached the imperial carriage and asked, "What are your orders, Goddess?"
“Make them stop fighting immediately,” Qiu Jie said coldly. “Those who don’t obey will not receive the secret medicine.”
Xie Maoliang dared not get too close to the two fighting, and shouted from a distance, "Stop fighting! The goddess has decreed that those who continue to fight will not receive the secret medicine."
Upon hearing this, the two men fighting on the ground both looked at Qiu Jie on the dragon carriage, opened their mouths and let out terrifying roars, their eyes seemingly regarding Qiu Jie as an enemy.
"Medicine, medicine!" One of the ghost soldiers rushed towards the dragon carriage first, followed by the one who had been pinned to the ground, who also got up and rushed towards the dragon carriage.
Xie Maoliang shouted, "You must not be disrespectful to the goddess!"
He merely shouted and made a gesture as if drawing a sword, but actually stepped aside.
If the monster soldiers could kill Qiu Jie, it would save him a worry. It would be better than living in constant fear. If they couldn't kill Qiu Jie, she wouldn't blame him. After all, who would dare to stand against soldiers who were like monsters?
A line of Southern Chu soldiers, wielding long spears, stood in front of the imperial carriage and roared, "Step back!"
The demon soldiers at the forefront seemed not to hear, their bloodshot eyes glaring as they pounced on the dragon chariot like wild beasts.
The spears pierced his black armor and snapped in two. Then he spread his arms and grabbed two Southern Chu soldiers by the neck, lifting them into the air and slamming their heads together, blood and sweat flying everywhere.
The ghost soldiers watching from behind, seeing the blood, shouted excitedly and rushed towards the dragon carriage. The ordinary soldiers of the Southern Chu army were terrified.
"Get out of the way."
After Qiu Jie finished speaking, she stood up, took out a metal tube from her bosom, pointed at the ghost soldiers charging at the front, and pressed the button at the end of the metal rod.
A green light flashed, and the ghost soldier seemed to be struck head-on by a giant hammer. His entire body flew up, somersaulted in the air, and fell into the dust. His limbs twitched a couple of times before he became still.
There was a fist-sized hole in the chest of his black armor, from which wisps of blue smoke rose.
The ghost soldier charging behind him stopped abruptly upon seeing this, seemingly unable to believe what was happening. The rest of the ghost soldiers behind him also ceased their shouting.
Jiang Wenpei exclaimed upon seeing the metal tube in Qiu Jie's hand, "This is..."
Qiu Jie pointed the metal tube at another ghost soldier fighter. The green light flashed again, and the ghost soldier swayed, his hands trembling as he reached for his chest.
The black armor was pierced by a mysterious green light, and the human body inside was not spared either. He fell to his knees with a thud, then collapsed face down. Blood slowly seeped from beneath his body.
The rest of the ghost army fell silent, a stark contrast to their earlier frenzy.
Xie Maoliang was completely dumbfounded.
Two of the demon soldiers, clad in black armor and possessing superhuman strength, were instantly killed by this metal cylinder. Is this metal cylinder also a weapon of a family of divine healers? It possesses such terrifying power.
Holding the metal tube, Qiu Jie stepped down from the imperial carriage and walked towards the broken entrance to the camp gate.
The soldiers of the ghost army dared not make a sound and fled in panic as if avoiding a plague.
Jiang Wenpei caught up with Qiu Jie and said, "How did the patriarch's defensive gun end up in your hands?"
Qiu Jie said, "He gave it to me. He probably anticipated this situation. If I didn't have this gun, how could I have suppressed these people?"
Her explanation was reasonable and irrefutable. Jiang Wenpei also thought it made sense.
