"The analysis results are in."
Su Wan skipped and hopped out of the room, holding several sheets of paper covered with words and pictures.
Her joyful voice startled Meng Ruliu, who was waiting outside the room. She sat up straight, rubbed her eyes, and said, "Sister-in-law, you didn't sleep all night?"
Su Wan took her hand and said, "I understand now. The secret medicine of the family of divine doctors is a very advanced stimulant. It not only stimulates the central nervous system... but also provides a leap forward compared to the traditional stimulants we know."
She excitedly spread the paper on the table and pointed to one of the items.
"Look, Sister Yi. It's not a cholinergic receptor agonist, nor is it a purine alkaloid compound, and it's not an adrenaline drug. But it has the same effects as all three, and it can also stimulate muscle growth and increase bone density in a short period of time... If we quantify the effects of stimulants, then traditional stimulants only have an effect of six to ten, but its effect fluctuates between three hundred and six hundred and fifty, that's too exaggerated..."
Meng Ruliu had just woken up, and Su Wan rattled off a bunch of strange terms, leaving her completely bewildered. However, she did understand the numbers Su Wan mentioned.
"Uh, this drug is fifty to sixty-five times stronger than the traditional one? But what are traditional stimulants?"
"This is amazing! I've been studying medicine for so many years and I've never seen such an advanced drug before," Su Wan said excitedly, grabbing a piece of paper in one hand and pulling her out with the other. "Once this paper is published, it will definitely cause a global sensation."
"Sister-in-law, sister-in-law!" Meng Ruliu grabbed Su Wan. "What's wrong with you? You're talking nonsense. What thesis?"
Su Wan finally calmed down from her excitement, turned around and slapped her face: "I forgot, sigh... this kind of medicine definitely doesn't belong to this era."
She was still excited when Meng Ruliu pointed to her dark circles and said, "You haven't slept all night, you're exhausted. What's with all the excitement? Even if you knew, how are we going to deal with the ghost army?"
“It’s very simple,” Su Wan said, holding up a metal cylinder. “Pepper spray will do.”
Meng Ruliu looked at the metal cylinder in Su Wan's hand and asked, "What is this?"
“Oh, no, it’s chili pepper.” Su Wan put away the pepper spray. “But the principle is the same. Capsaicin can bind to this kind of agent at the molecular level. Once it binds to the agent, it activates the membrane ion channel of the receptor, which is a relatively non-specific cation channel…”
Meng Ruliu supported Su Wan's shoulders: "Sister-in-law, please... say something I can understand."
As soon as Su Wan rushed out of the room, she started saying a lot of things that Su Wan couldn't understand. Su Wan felt like her brain had turned to mush.
“I’m so excited,” Su Wan said. “Let me put it simply, chili peppers are a deadly virus to the Ghost Army. As long as they come into contact with chili peppers, they will lose their power, and the medicine will kill them in turn.”
Meng Ruliu was overjoyed and jumped up, saying, "So it's that simple? We can deal with them with chili peppers?"
“Many things are actually quite simple,” Su Wan said, taking her hand. “Many scientific discoveries are often just a matter of seeing the light. Let’s go find A-Jin.”
It was almost noon when Su Wan ran out of her room. The sunlight was so bright that it took her a while to adjust.
Wei Jingzhuo was patrolling the city wall when he heard Su Wan's words. He looked incredulous: "Chili peppers can deal with the ghost army?"
Su Wan was about to explain to Wei Jingzhuo with the paper when Meng Ruliu quickly hid to the side. She didn't want to hear any more strange things.
Upon seeing this, Su Wan put the paper down again and said to Wei Jingzhuo, "Ah Jin, trust me. Prepare chili peppers... chili water."
Pepper spray wasn't something the technology could produce back then. And if there was a headwind, it would just spray all over your face. Pepper water was much simpler and more effective; it worked even when sprayed directly onto the skin.
"Alright, someone come here," Wei Jingzhuo summoned his deputy general, "Find all the soldiers in the army who can handle spicy food. Send men to cut down the bamboo forest immediately and make water sprayers from the bamboo tubes."
The lieutenant looked completely bewildered and asked, "General, what are soldiers who can eat spicy food for? And how do you make water cans?"
Su Wan explained, "Bamboo is segmented, right? We open one end of a bamboo segment, leave a hole at the other end, pour in chili water, and then use a sealed push rod to push it. The chili water will be pressurized and spray out from the hole at the other end. It works on the same principle as a syringe."
The lieutenant was shocked: "General, are you going to make the soldiers drink chili water? Why are you punishing them?"
Wei Jingzhuo said, "No, it's for the Ghost Army to drink. Once the Ghost Army attacks the city, the city walls will be covered in chili water, and only soldiers who can handle spicy food can withstand it."
The lieutenant then realized what was happening and quickly assigned people to prepare.
There are bamboo groves outside Yanxun Pass, and there are plenty of bamboo tubes to choose from, but chili peppers are scarce. Wei Jingzhuo scoured the entire army for chili peppers, and even found the soldiers' privately treasured chili sauce.
Many hands make light work, and within half an hour, two thousand pepper spray canisters were ready. Still not convinced, Su Wan decided to personally test the power of the pepper spray.
The creation of the jet cannon was already quite strange, and when it was said that the General's wife was going to test it herself, the soldiers of the Great Jin all gathered around to watch.
Meng Ruliu held the spray nozzle, and she opened her mouth at the other end to catch it. Meng Ruliu was strong and didn't control it well, so she pushed a big mouthful into her mouth, making her face turn red from the spiciness. She opened her mouth wide and fanned herself.
"It's so spicy, my head is buzzing, I need some saliva."
The soldiers of the Great Jin Dynasty who were watching were laughing because it was the first time they had ever seen the General's wife eat spicy food.
Wei Jingzhuo handed over a glass of water and said, "Is this all you need?"
Su Wan gulped down the water in one go, but still felt it was too spicy. She saw stars before her eyes and stuck out her tongue, saying, "That's enough, that's enough... This level of spiciness, wow."
