The soldiers of the Great Jin army on the city wall were greatly encouraged and began to throw stones down.
The Southern Chu soldiers below were in a terrible state, not only being pelted with stones from above, but also being slaughtered by the Ghost Army soldiers indiscriminately within the crowd. They couldn't advance, nor could they retreat; it was like being in hell.
Qiu Jie looked at Su Wan on the city gate tower and said angrily, "Su, Wan, it really was you who did this."
Xie Maoliang instructed: "Archers, specifically target the Jin soldiers who are carrying bamboo tubes."
The deputy general relayed the order, and the archers of the Southern Chu army drew their bows and released arrows like locusts. The Jin soldiers on the city wall only had bamboo tubes and no shields to protect themselves, and men were constantly hit by arrows and fell down.
Qiu Jie was furious, and the Fifth Prince Chu Kai, standing below the city wall, was equally enraged. The two thousand ghost soldiers were already fighting amongst themselves, with hundreds fallen. One ghost soldier, wildly swinging his weapon, knocked down more than a dozen Southern Chu soldiers before charging at him.
"court death."
He roared, swung his halberd, and slammed it down on the shoulder of the demon soldier with a whooshing sound. The crescent blade of the halberd cleaved through the black armor and embedded itself deeply into the demon soldier's body.
With a single swift movement, he lifted the demon soldier with his halberd, then knocked off his helmet, which was stained with red chili water. Black blood, bubbling and resembling ink, gushed from the soldier's eyes, nostrils, and ears; his death was utterly gruesome.
He was furious. He had thought these soldiers were invincible, but he never expected them to die so tragically.
He left behind the dead demon army and, gripping his halberd, climbed the iron ladder.
Along the way, stones and logs came crashing down, but he wielded his halberd to deflect them one by one, and soon climbed to the top of the city wall.
As soon as he appeared, several Jin soldiers surrounded him and sprayed him with pepper spray from bamboo tubes. Chu Kai raised his arm to shield himself, but most of the pepper spray landed on his arm armor, while a few drops flew into his helmet and splashed on his face.
He felt a sharp, stabbing pain in his face, as if it were being ripped out with a knife. His blood boiled, his veins swelled, and a strange sensation rose from the depths of his heart. This bizarre chili water seemed to have set his entire body's blood ablaze.
He roared and swung his halberd in a circle. The Jin soldiers in front of him, not expecting him to be able to fight, were all sent flying.
Chu Kai scaled the city wall, wielding his halberd with unstoppable force, killing and wounding nearly a hundred Jin soldiers. Soldiers wielding bamboo tubes charged forward, but he prioritized dealing with them upon seeing them. His halberd was long, while the bamboo tubes had a short range, so many soldiers were killed or maimed before they could even get close.
After fighting his way through, he felt his strength starting to wane, his immense power seemed to be rapidly disappearing, and something warm was oozing from his nostrils.
He simply ripped off his helmet, ran his hand to his nostrils, and discovered that, like the ghost soldiers from before, black blood was flowing from his nose. The air was filled with a pungent, acrid smell, mingling with the thick stench of blood in his mouth and nose.
It felt as if thousands of steel needles were drilling into his flesh, leaving his rock-solid muscles riddled with holes.
"I cannot die; I must defeat the Jin army."
He held the halberd in one hand and took out a vial of medicine from his pocket with the other, then stuck it into his neck.
Some Jin soldiers holding bamboo tubes noticed his actions and rushed forward at the risk of their lives to spray pepper spray, but he swung his halberd and knocked them away.
After the injection, he threw away the syringe and wiped away the black blood that was dripping from his nostrils.
The omnipotent power returned to his body. The veins on his neck and forehead began to bulge, his hair stood on end, and the muscles throughout his body strained against his armor, making creaking and groaning sounds, as if they were about to tear the black armor apart.
"Hahaha, this power... I am a god."
He laughed wildly and swung his halberd, cleaving dozens of Jin soldiers charging towards him in half at the waist.
