“He’s a monster, he won’t die,” Meng Ruliu continued running without looking back. “If I don’t run, I’m doomed.”
No sooner had Meng Ruliu finished speaking than a loud bang erupted behind them, bricks and tiles shattered and wood exploded. Chu Kai stood up from the ruins, wielding his halberd and chasing after the two.
Only the two of them were still able to move on the city wall. Chu Kai kept his eyes on them and strode over.
Meng Ruliu had just been hit, and her chest was already tight and uncomfortable. She was panting heavily after running only a few steps. Su Wan saw Chu Kai getting closer and closer from her shoulder and exclaimed, "Sister-in-law, he's catching up!"
Meng Ruliu held her in one arm, picked up a knife from the pile of corpses with the other, and threw it back at her.
Chu Kai didn't even dodge; the knife struck his black armor and bounced off to the ground.
Su Wan broke free and lunged at the bamboo tube held in the hand of a corpse, shouting, "Sister-in-law, run! Draw his attention away!"
Meng Ruliu turned around and shouted to Chu Kai, "Monster, come and chase me!"
Chu Kai let out a strange cry, the sound so loud it made their ears ring. Meng Ruliu covered her ears with both hands, took a few steps like a drunkard, and tripped and fell to the ground. Su Wan exclaimed, "Sister, be careful!"
Just as Chu Kai was about to approach the two, an arrow flew from behind and struck him squarely on the back of the head.
Chu Kai scratched the back of his head, turned around and roared at the high place behind him, then strode off to chase after it.
Su Wan saw the figure standing atop the ruins of the city gate tower and exclaimed with delight, "Ah Jin!"
She gripped the bamboo tube tightly and shook it to make sure there was still enough chili water inside. She then said to Meng Ruliu, "Sister-in-law, please sit down. I'll go help Ajin."
