Chapter 255 A Thousand Armies

The sun was completely obscured by dark clouds, and the morning sky looked almost like dusk.

The raindrops pounded heavily on the top of the tent, sounding like countless horses galloping over Su Wan's head, which made her feel somewhat irritated.

She stood at the tent entrance, watching the puddles outside splashing countless tiny water droplets. She tried to stick her hand out, and her palm was instantly soaked by the rain.

"This awful weather is no good day to go into town," she muttered, rubbing her hands on her clothes. "I thought the rain would stop when it got light."

"What's wrong? Is A-Wan unhappy?" Wei Jingzhuo walked behind her and hugged her petite body. "I wish I could sprout wings and fly into the capital of Southern Chu to end all of this as soon as possible."

Su Wan raised her face and reached out to touch Wei Jingzhuo's cheek, saying, "Don't go too far. Sister Chu came all this way; she doesn't want Southern Chu to be destroyed."

The Jin army has won a great victory, and she hopes for a good ending.

“Of course I won’t do that,” Wei Jingzhuo whispered in her ear. “We’ll just sign a ceasefire treaty with Southern Chu. The territory of Great Jin is already vast enough; we don’t need Southern Chu at all.”

“That’s more like it,” Su Wan said. “If you were to annex Southern Chu, the other countries would start to get scared, and they might even unite against you.”

Wei Jingzhuo said, "I don't want to pay attention to them, I just want to deal with you properly."

Su Wan recalled their passionate encounter last night and laughed, "You big pervert, didn't you torment me enough last night?"

Wei Jingzhuo remained silent, whispering sweet nothings to her as he moved his hands upwards from her lower abdomen.

Su Wan's face flushed, and she pressed his hand down, saying, "Don't touch me like that. What if someone comes in?"

As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Meng Ruliu holding an umbrella and striding across the puddle on the ground, running towards the tent, saying, "General, sworn sister. The scouts have sent news."

Su Wan slapped Wei Jingzhuo's hand away, straightened her clothes, and said to Meng Ruliu, "Sister-in-law, come into the tent quickly."

Meng Ruliu ran to the tent, turned her back to Su Wan, put away her umbrella, stood on the rack outside the tent, and said, "It's raining so hard today."

Wei Jingzhuo said, "General Mingwei, you've worked hard. What news have the scouts brought?"

Meng Ruliu turned around and said, "General, Bai Zhiyi hasn't returned to the capital of Southern Chu; I don't know where she's gone. The Third Princess already knows about our victory, and they've set off too. The Third Princess said..."

Su Wan poured a cup of hot tea and handed it to Meng Ruliu, saying, "Sister-in-law, have some hot water to warm yourself up."

Meng Ruliu took the tea and drank a big gulp, saying, "The Third Princess has a request: it would be best if the army did not enter the city, so as not to disturb the people."

After listening, Wei Jingzhuo pondered for a moment and said, "That's fine, then we won't break camp and advance. Which prince is currently in power in Southern Chu?"

Meng Ruliu said, "If Chu Yi recovers, then it is naturally Chu Yi. I heard that he is still in the sacred land of the Divine Physician Family and has not yet come out. It should be the Fourth Prince in power now."

Su Wan said to Wei Jingzhuo, "Sister Chu's concerns are reasonable. If the army enters the city, it will inevitably give the people of Southern Chu the feeling that we have occupied Southern Chu. Why don't we stop the army here, meet with the Fourth Prince, and sign a peace treaty?"

Wei Jingzhuo said, "That suits me perfectly. Let's do as Awan says."

He said to Meng Ruliu, "You can have someone inform the Third Princess..."

Su Wan grabbed Wei Jingzhuo's arm and said, "What's the point of notifying anyone? Let's go see Sister Chu and the others right now, finish things quickly, and then withdraw our troops back to Shangjing."

Wei Jingzhuo asked, "Shall we go now?"

Su Wan smiled and said, "The sooner we go, the sooner we'll get it over with. What are we doing staying here all this time?"

Wei Jingzhuo said, "No, it's raining so hard, I'm afraid you'll get wet and catch a cold."

"Don't worry, I have an umbrella. Besides, if I get wet in the rain, I can just take a hot shower when I get back."

As the three were chatting and laughing, another lieutenant came to report: "General, Madam, General Mingwei, the Fourth Prince of Southern Chu, and others are on their way to the military camp."

Wei Jingzhuo asked, "Who's in the group?"

"The Fourth Prince, he represents Southern Chu. There is also the Third Princess, Chu Mingyao, and two elders."

Su Wan jumped up and said, "Oh dear, I was so engrossed in the battle that I forgot about the two elders. Sister Chu has been taking care of them all this time, so I can't just sit here like an idiot anymore. I'll go and greet them."

Wei Jingzhuo said, "Since we have signed a peace treaty with Southern Chu, I should also go to welcome them."

Meng Ruliu said, "Then I'll go too."

Wei Jingzhuo said, "An army cannot be without a commander. When I leave, General Mingwei can stay behind to guard the camp."

Meng Ruliu said somewhat unhappily, "The war is over, what is there left to defend? I want to go with my sworn sister."

Su Wan took two umbrellas from the hooks inside the tent, handed one to Wei Jingzhuo, and said to Meng Ruliu, "Sister-in-law, we're just going out to greet Sister Chu and the others, we'll be back soon."

Meng Ruliu was unhappy and reluctantly saw the two of them off.

The rain was pouring down, and the low-lying areas were already flooded. Wei Jingzhuo set up his army camp on a high ground and went down the mountain along a winding path.

Su Wan led Xuehua out and stroked her ear, saying, "The rain is a bit heavy, so please bear with it. We're going to greet Sister Chu and the others."

The two mounted their horses and, with a hundred cavalrymen following and protecting them, descended the mountain along a small path.

It rained heavily all night, and the road was muddy. On the way down the mountain, the horses' hooves slipped in the mud more than once. Everyone drove their horses carefully. When they reached the foot of the mountain, the rain had lessened considerably, and the dark clouds were edged with gold, allowing a few rays of sunlight to shine through.

Su Wan was overjoyed and said to Wei Jingzhuo, "The rain is about to stop, let's go and welcome Sister Chu."
