Su Wan cannot swim.
It wasn't about the cost of swimming lessons; it was that she disliked the pool water. Some people scrubbed themselves clean in the pool, which was a minor issue; others secretly urinated in the water, and most alarmingly, some concealed their skin conditions.
She was worried about accidentally ingesting parasite eggs or something similar when she went to learn to swim in a reservoir in the wild.
Now she believes that everyone should learn to swim. Rich people can build their own swimming pools, and those who don't should be diligent and go swimming right after the pool water has been changed.
If you happen to be unlucky enough to encounter such a flood, knowing how to swim is always better than not knowing how.
She slipped into the water, her feet unable to touch the ground, and immediately panicked. She opened her mouth to shout, but choked on water, became dazed, and flailed her arms and legs wildly with her eyes closed.
A hand grabbed her collar from behind and pulled her out of the water.
She was soaked to the bone, and instinctively clung tightly to something hard. She spat out two large mouthfuls of water, feeling like her mouth was full of mud and sand. Panting, she opened her eyes and saw that she had been hugging Snowflake's saddle.
The snowflake floated on the water, its head and neck stretched out above the surface. Its back was almost level with the water's surface; it could stick its head out of the water by holding onto the saddle.
"Ah Wan, hold on tight and keep your head above water," Wei Jingzhuo's voice rang out beside her. "We'll swim you to shore."
Su Wan was overjoyed and turned to look at Wei Jingzhuo on her left and then at Chu Mingyao on her right: "You're all here."
She thought they had both been swept away by the water, but to her surprise, they were still together. Although they were both soaking wet, it made her feel much more at ease.
The instant the floodwaters swept her away, Wei Jingzhuo and Chu Mingyao were already in front of her. She had only swallowed a couple of mouthfuls of water when Wei Jingzhuo had already pulled her out of the water.
Chu Mingyao said, "The clothes are amazing; they make us float on water. Why aren't you wearing them?"
Su Wan didn't want to talk about her foolish actions, so she said, "Just two sets."
Wei Jingzhuo said, "Then why didn't you say so sooner? If you die, I won't live either."
Su Wan said, "Don't talk nonsense. I'm perfectly fine here. How do I get ashore?"
Looking around, all that could be seen was water; there wasn't a single place to get to shore, only a few hills protruding above the surface. Besides, even someone who could swim probably couldn't move in the floodwaters and wouldn't be able to reach the shore; they would be swept downstream by the flood.
The only place to get ashore is Jinhua Mountain, which stands high above the water downstream.
Fortunately, the floodwaters carrying countless debris have passed, and the water behind is much cleaner. Since falling into the water, no one has hit any rocks or anything like that.
Chu Mingyao said, "Our only chance is Jinhua Mountain. But the water will be blocked by the mountain and flow to both sides. If we let the water carry us away, we will not be able to climb that mountain."
Wei Jingzhuo said, "I'll think of a way. You guys hold onto the saddle."
Su Wan said, "Ah Jin, we're both counting on you."
Wei Jingzhuo nodded.
As Jinhua Mountain drew closer, Su Wan gazed at its towering peaks and felt a strange sensation.
When a person is in the water for a long time, they don't feel like they are moving. Instead, it feels like an entire mountain is blocking out the sky and pressing down on them.
This Jinhua Mountain is particularly strange; it stands alone outside the capital of Southern Chu, unlike other mountains. Other mountains, regardless of height, are all connected; this is the first time she has ever seen a solitary peak.
This is the sacred ground of the legendary family of healers, a mysterious family of healers located on the mountain.
Although she had never been to that place, based on her experience fighting the demon army and the secret of the Resurrection Pendant, she could vaguely sense that the family of divine healers did not belong to this world. Their technology far exceeded her comprehension.
As she was pondering this, Chu Mingyao pointed upstream and said, "Look, a boat is coming down from upstream."
Su Wan turned to look upstream. Sure enough, several large ships were sailing downstream. However, they were too far away to see clearly who was on board.
She said to Wei Jingzhuo, "Ah Jin, a boat is coming! Let's shout for help!"
Ignoring what Wei Jingzhuo said, she took the laser pointer out of the apartment, raised her arm, turned it on, and shone it at the distant ship.
The laser pointer seemed to have hit a ship, and someone on that ship was pointing in their direction. A large ship veered off course and headed towards them.
Wei Jingzhuo said urgently, "Awan, the only people on the boat who could have opened up the Guijiang Estuary are Bai Zhiyi."
Su Wan was startled and quickly put her pen away. She said to Wei Jingzhuo, "She hates us so much... but we're soaking in the water right now. Getting on a boat is better than this."
Chu Mingyao called out, "Jinhua Mountain is just ahead."
Su Wan hugged the saddle tightly and said to Xuehua, "Xuehua, swim to the foot of the mountain."
Snowflakes seemed to understand her words and slowly swam the three of them towards the foot of Jinhua Mountain.
When the three of them swam to the foot of the mountain, the current became rapid. Xuehua tried several times to reach the shore but could not, and was carried downstream by the current.
Ahead lay a submerged hillside, with a long, winding stone staircase extending above the water, flanked by thick trees. Wei Jingzhuo pulled a coiled rope from his robes, the end of which had an iron claw. He twirled it a few times in the air before hurling it at a thick tree protruding from the water.
As the iron claws wrapped around the tree trunk, Wei Jingzhuo wrapped the rope around his wrist several times with his left hand and gripped Su Wan's wrist tightly with his right.
Su Wan felt her body first pause, then stop in the water, and then suddenly straighten up, lying flat on the surface. It felt as if a waterfall was pouring down on her head, the water violently hitting her head, and her arms felt like they were about to break.
