Chapter 258 Reunion is also a Parting

Upon seeing Bai Zhiyi again, Su Wan was not afraid, but rather felt a surge of anger.

She couldn't understand why Bai Zhiyi hated her and Wei Jingzhuo so much, to the point of breaching the river dam and flooding them.

In her view, if two sides have a grudge, then they should fight each other to the death, and whoever is more capable will have the last laugh. There should be no dragging innocent bystanders into it. Did Bai Zhiyi never consider how many people in Southern Chu would drown by releasing floods?

What does the hatred between the two sides have to do with ordinary people? Why should they be made victims of the conflict between the two sides?

Normally, she would have jumped up on the spot and pointed at Bai Zhiyi's nose, giving her a good scolding.

Bai Zhiyi, you idiot, how dare you gloat? Don't you know how many innocent people you've killed? The reason God hasn't punished you yet is because God is dozing off. When God wakes up, He'll strike you down with lightning speed, leaving not a trace...

She cursed inwardly, but her face remained impassive as she propped herself up and said, "Bai Zhiyi, what do you want?"

His arm ached so much he couldn't even lift it. Wei Jingzhuo beside him was exhausted, and had even thrown away his armor. There were countless soldiers on the large ship; what if they charged down?

We must not let Wei Jingzhuo be put in danger because of a moment of impulsiveness.

As for the metal tube that Bai Zhiyi was holding, in her opinion it was no different from a teacher waving a pointer in class; it was only used to intimidate people and had no other purpose.

A smug smile appeared behind the clown mask. Bai Zhiyi twirled the metal cylinder in her hand like a flute, then pointed it at her.

"Su Wan, you must have been incredibly excited when you defeated the Fifth Prince's army, right?"

Su Wan could hear the sarcasm in her words. Her mind told her to be patient, but her mouth uttered a truthful no.

"I was indeed very excited. I was able to defeat those monsters, so why shouldn't I be happy? On the other hand, when you saw the entire monster army wiped out, weren't you furious, filled with frustration, and slunk away with your tail between your legs?"

That's just the kind of person she is; she'll immediately retaliate if she's wronged. She's like that not only with Bai Zhiyi, but also with Wei Jingzhuo.

Bai Zhiyi's laughter caught in her throat after being refuted by her, and her body stiffened.

After a couple of seconds, she regained her composure and said dismissively, "So what if I am? You thought I was at my wit's end and had no way out, and that you had won a great victory. But you never expected to end up like this, did you?"

Su Wan said, "We have already won. Your actions of digging up the Guijiang Estuary are nothing but a desperate act that has killed countless innocent people."

Bai Zhiyi said casually, "It's no use saying anything. Do you think I'm like a dog? Haha, it's you two who are as pitiful as drowning dogs. Now you'd better kneel down and beg me. If you make me happy, I might consider letting you live."

Su Wan said, "That's easy for you to say. Why should we kneel before you?"

Bai Zhiyi raised the metal cylinder and pointed it at Su Wan, saying, "On what grounds? On the grounds that I'm standing here and can take both of your lives at any moment."

Su Wan said, "Then come ashore. What are you doing gesturing on the boat? Are you scared?"

Although she spoke with great conviction, she was actually quite insecure inside.

Wei Jingzhuo clearly lacked the strength to fight; just standing was a feat in itself. She herself didn't have anything particularly impressive to offer. If a group of soldiers jumped down from the enemy lines, they would truly have no choice but to surrender.

But you can't lose your spirit. No matter how weak you feel inside, you have to put on a tough front. Maybe you can intimidate Bai Zhiyi.

Her words seemed to have truly stunned Bai Zhiyi. Bai Zhiyi didn't order any soldiers to disembark; she simply held up the metal cylinder and stared at her, lost in thought.

After a moment, Bai Zhiyi sneered and said to Wei Jingzhuo, "Wei Jingzhuo, you ruined my appearance. I should have killed you first... but I've changed my mind. Get out of my way and let me kill Su Wan. I will then let bygones be bygones."

Wei Jingzhuo did not do as she said, and said, "Miss Bai, you wear a mask because your face is disfigured, right? I am sorry for what happened to you, but I did not do it."

Bai Zhiyi said, "You're lying, I don't believe you."

Su Wan finally understood why Bai Zhiyi was raising troops everywhere to fight them; it turned out that she hated Wei Jingzhuo for ruining her appearance.

For a woman, appearance is almost everything, no wonder she hates Wei Jingzhuo so much. But just now Bai Zhiyi said she would let Wei Jingzhuo go, which seems somewhat contradictory.

She asked, "What happened to your face?"

Bai Zhiyi placed her hand on the clown mask and said, "Do you want to see it?"

Su Wan said, "If you don't want to, I won't force you. But you said A-Jin ruined your appearance, how exactly did he do it?"

“Why say all this?” Bai Zhiyi’s voice became shrill. “My face is completely ruined, all because of Wei Jingzhuo. I knelt before him and begged him to spare my aunt and uncle, and he agreed readily, but then he planted explosives in the car…”

Su Wan said, "Wait, don't get excited, I have something to say."

Bai Zhiyi took a deep breath and said, "Okay, I've calmed down. Go ahead and speak. I'll give you a chance to speak."

Su Wan asked, "When you say there are explosives planted in a car, you mean the Shence vehicle, right?"

Bai Zhiyi said, "Yes. Wei Jingzhuo lied to me. He knew in advance that my aunt and uncle had set up an ambush in Ganxi Valley, and deliberately planted explosives in the car, but my aunt and uncle had no idea..."

Su Wan said, "You're wrong. A-Jin had no idea there were explosives planted in the car. He was in the same car as my maternal grandfather. On the way, he learned that I was trapped in Suiyang, so he got out of the car to rescue me. My maternal grandfather also managed to escape by sheer luck. Otherwise, they would both have been killed by the explosives."
