Chapter 26 Braised Pork with Potatoes

Su Wan stir-fried it a few times until it turned golden brown. She took out a plate and scooped out a large plateful, enough for the two of them to eat.

Finally, my gaze fell upon a pile of wild vegetables in the corner, which Granny Cui usually gathered outside.

She casually tossed a bowl of wild vegetable and egg drop soup.

The rice on the stove was cooked, and she served each of them a bowl.

She carried the food out of the kitchen and was somewhat surprised to find that Wei Jingzhuo had already left the house.

"Why are you out again?"

Wei Jingzhuo looked at her and saw that her hair had been combed again and casually tied up with a red ribbon, fluttering in the wind as she walked.

She was dressed in a coarse linen men's garment, yet her delicate and beautiful appearance was still undeniable.

Those bright and clever eyes were even more captivating.

He glanced at the food she was carrying, silently got up, picked up the sword beside him as a cane, and went into the house, leaning on the ground.

Su Wan set out the food, her eyes crinkling with a smile, "Come and eat!"

She used the white porcelain bowl and chopsticks she had just taken from the apartment to serve rice, completely ignoring Wei Jingzhuo's gaze.

Wei Jingzhuo seemed to have gotten used to her unexpected moves.

The two ate their meal in silence. He hesitated for a moment when he saw the golden-yellow thing on the plate, but seeing that Su Wan was eating happily, he also picked up a piece with his chopsticks.

Wei Jingzhuo always ate without speaking and slept without making a sound.

Even if they see something unfamiliar, they won't ask about it right away, but will silently remember it.

While eating, Su Wan kept an eye on his actions and noticed that he ate an extra bowl of food, which meant that the food must have suited his taste.

After they finished eating, Wei Jingzhuo finally asked her, "What was that just now?"

It has a soft and tender texture, and tastes extremely delicious when eaten with meat. However, he had never seen or eaten this before.

Su Wan knew what he meant.

So she also prepared a set of excuses.

She got up and started clearing the dishes while explaining to him, "I got this from the villagers today. They didn't know what it was either. They said that people would die if they ate it. You know I'm a doctor, and I can tell at a glance whether something is poisonous or not."

Wei Jingzhuo held a glass of water in his hand, his gaze towards Su Wan filled with admiration. "How come you can eat these things?"

“Of course, I learned it from a medical book,” she said matter-of-factly. “If this thing is not handled properly, it can indeed poison people, but if it is cleaned properly, it can be eaten. Moreover, this thing reproduces quickly and has a short growth cycle; a small piece can grow into a whole bunch.”

Wei Jingzhuo understood what she said, but whether he believed her or not, he didn't say anything.

Just as Su Wan was about to leave with her bowl and chopsticks, he suddenly asked, "Which book did you see this in? Could I take a look?"

Su Wan paused as she stepped out the door, then pretended to be dead. "I saw those a long time ago, and I've long forgotten the titles. But if you want to know, I can write down the contents for you."

She didn't think Wei Jingzhuo would be interested in this. She would bury the remaining dozen or so potatoes in the yard later.

In three months, we can harvest potatoes all over the yard, and then we won't have to worry about not having enough to eat.

She had a good plan, but then Wei Jingzhuo's cold voice came from behind her: "Okay."

She was taken aback; she hadn't expected him to actually be interested in things.

Thinking of the computer in her apartment, she figured she could easily copy it down without any problem, so she readily agreed, "I'll write it down for you when I'm done with this."

Before Wei Jingzhuo could speak, she took the bowl and chopsticks and left the room.

Wei Jingzhuo straightened his clothes, leaned against the window, and stared intently at Su Wan's back, lost in thought.

A cool breeze swept through, scattering the blossoms from the hibiscus tree in the courtyard. Pale purple petals landed in her dark hair, making her appear ethereal and playful, like a mischievous forest sprite.

He only looked away after the figure disappeared.

Thinking about the food he had just eaten, he was certain that the Great Jin Dynasty did not have it. Not only did it taste good, but it was also filling. If the soldiers and civilians in the Northwest could eat such good food, they would certainly not go to the battlefield hungry.

The population of the Great Jin Dynasty will also increase significantly.

Thinking of the accidental connection between him and Su Wan, a smile inexplicably appeared on his lips.

After cleaning up the dishes, Su Wan went to the yard, cut the sprouted potatoes into several pieces, and planted them in the yard.

She had never grown this kind of thing before, but that didn't stop her from looking it up on the computer in her apartment.

In the kitchen, she quietly took out her tablet, watched a documentary about agriculture that she had downloaded before, found the potato planting method, and planted the potatoes one by one according to the instructions.

After planting all of these, she collapsed from exhaustion.

This kind of work is really not something a human can do. Neither the original owner nor she had ever done such rough work before. In just one afternoon, blisters appeared on her palms.

After resting for a while, just as she was about to get up and go back to her room to take a hot shower, a young girl suddenly barged in front of her.

Su Wan was startled by the girl in front of her, and she looked at her warily.

The girl was dressed in a coarse cloth outfit, her hair was tied up in a man's bun, she had a pair of sword-like eyebrows, and her dark, round face exuded a heroic air.

Seemingly afraid of startling Su Wan, she scratched her head and said apologetically, "Madam, I didn't mean it. It's just that the food at your house smells so good that I was really craving it, so I came to take a look."

She pointed to the thatched hut next door, "My older brother, my mother, and I live there. Don't be afraid, I'm not here to steal anything."
