Jiang Yan swayed, then collapsed like a plaster statue, pinning Chu Yi beneath him. Thick black smoke billowed from his riddled chest and abdomen, emitting a pungent odor.
"younger sister."
Chu Mingyao jumped from the platform onto the mat, just like Su Wan, and ran to Su Wan to help her up.
Su Wan stared blankly at Jiang Yan and said, "He...is he dead?"
“She’s dead, don’t worry, sister,” Chu Mingyao said, supporting her back. “Stop shaking, sit down and relax.”
Su Wan let out a long breath and collapsed to the ground, completely exhausted.
Chu Yi struggled to push Jiang Yan's body away, sat up panting, and carefully examined Jiang Yan to make sure he was dead before smiling at Su Wan and saying, "Thanks to the goddess's timely rescue, my life has finally been saved."
Su Wan took a few breaths, her eyes finally regained their liveliness, and her brain started working again.
Terrified by Jiang Yan, she had to stand up several times before she could. Carrying her defensive pistol, she walked towards the door, then turned to Chu Mingyao and said, "Sister Chu, you take care of things here. I need to go to the examination room right away; A-Jin is waiting for me."
The Others are dead, the crisis in the Holy Land is over, and she must hurry to save Wei Jingzhuo.
She walked out of the forge, changed into a pair of shoes, and ran through the storage room out of the passageway.
Arriving at the herb garden where they first met Lin Qingfeng, they found the garden in complete disarray. Only one house, which hadn't collapsed, was still lit.
She had planned to ignore them and walk past immediately. She'd only run a few steps when the door to the lit room next door opened, and Lin Qingfeng called out from the doorway, "Madam, wait!"
Su Wan turned around in surprise and said, "Why did you come out? Didn't I tell you to wait in the operating room? Where's A-Jin?"
Lin Qingfeng said, "Madam, a gentleman surnamed Jiang asked us to wait outside. He said he needs time to clean the examination room so he can treat patients..."
Su Wan's eyes widened in surprise. "Who? Who did you say?" she asked.
“Goddess, it was I who spoke.” A middle-aged man emerged from the darkness.
Su Wan turned her head and looked, but she didn't recognize the person.
The middle-aged man had regular features. His hair was styled in a high bun and secured with a green hairpin. He wore a white robe with blue cloud embroidery on the sleeves. One hand was behind his back, and the other was slightly bent at the elbow, giving him an air of composure and elegance.
In this holy site, almost entirely in ruins, this man stood out starkly. Everyone else was covered in dust and grime, but he alone was different.
She asked in confusion, "Who are you...?"
The middle-aged man smiled and said, "Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Jiang Yan, the head of a family of renowned physicians."
