Su Wan pulled Bai Zhiyi through the two tents and ran towards the nearby woods.
In the open field, the two of them were too conspicuous to escape, and once they ran out of energy, they would definitely be caught. Xie Maoliang was carrying a defensive gun, and she dared not summon the giant eagle down, so hiding in the woods was the only option.
If they could escape into the woods, the darkness might allow them to shake off his pursuit. Once they found an opportunity, they would call the giant eagle down and take her and Bai Zhiyi away.
She pulled Bai Zhiyi along, running desperately, stepping over the dead bodies on the ground, skirting the burning tents, panting heavily. The dim moonlight illuminated the dark forest ahead, casting dense shadows on the ground.
The woods drew ever closer, yet the sinister grin behind them remained ever-present.
Xie Maoliang did not fire; he seemed to be enjoying their despair, like a cat playing with a mouse.
By the time she reached the edge of the woods, she was breathless, her chest feeling like it was about to burst. Looking back at Bai Zhiyi, she was also bent over, breathing heavily behind her clown mask. Xie Maoliang was about ten meters behind her, his armor clattering with each step, and a chilling laugh emanating from his mouth.
This man has already killed hundreds of people with his defensive gun, so he obviously doesn't care about killing a couple more. We can't expect him to let them go.
"Hold on, let's go in quickly." She grabbed Bai Zhiyi's arm and rushed into the woods.
Just as she lifted her foot, a green flash flew past beneath her hand and struck the tree in front of her, which was as thick as a bowl. The tree sparked and snapped as it crashed down on her.
Before she could scream, she turned and grabbed Bai Zhiyi, pulling them aside. The tree trunk nearly grazed them as they crashed to the ground. Long branches struck her head and face, burning her; she didn't know if they were bleeding.
She didn't care about any of that. Just as she was about to pull Bai Zhiyi to keep running, she found that Bai Zhiyi's body suddenly became heavy and collapsed in her arms, as if she had no bones at all.
Unable to support her, she had to let Bai Zhiyi sit on the ground, shaking her shoulders and calling out, "What's wrong? Get up quickly."
Bai Zhiyi stared at her blankly, seemingly unable to speak, only taking deep breaths.
Su Wan's heart skipped a beat. She held Bai Zhiyi's shoulder and looked her up and down, only then noticing that there was a fist-sized hole in Bai Zhiyi's abdomen, from which blood was gushing out.
It was that green light from before; it first pierced Bai Zhiyi's lower back, flew past her hand, and then struck the tree in front of her.
"No..." her lips trembled, "How could this happen?"
Bai Zhiyi took a breath and said weakly, "I can't go on."
"Heh heh, you think you can escape into the woods?" Xie Maoliang laughed as he walked over. "Did you really think this general would let you get away?"
He held his defensive rifle and smugly approached the two men.
"Ah Jin is still waiting for us to rescue her, so bear with it." After Su Wan finished speaking, she bent down, grabbed Bai Zhiyi's arm, and used all her strength to lift Bai Zhiyi up.
She gritted her teeth and took a few steps, but her legs began to tremble. She tried to grab a tree in front of her for support, but before she could take a step, she fell to her knees, and Bai Zhiyi also fell to the ground.
Su Wan was so angry that she kept pounding the ground with her fists.
It's a shame I'm not strong enough. If Meng Ruliu were here, she would have easily run into the woods with Bai Zhiyi long ago.
Xie Maoliang had already walked to within a few meters of the two. Seeing Su Wan and Bai Zhiyi lying on the ground, he couldn't help but burst into laughter and said, "Su Wan, Bai Zhiyi is your mortal enemy. How could you risk your life to save her?"
Su Wan didn't answer, but took out her whistle and blew it loudly.
Xie Maoliang picked up his defensive pistol and said, "I don't care what your relationship with her is. If you really want to be with her, I'll send you on your way right now."
Just as he was about to aim his defensive gun at Su Wan, a cry of an eagle came from behind him, dust billowed up from the ground, and a gust of wind rose.
Xie Maoliang hadn't expected a strong wind to rise from the flat ground; dust swirled around him, obscuring everything. After walking a few steps, he lost all sense of direction and lost sight of Su Wan altogether.
He guessed that it was the giant eagle that had caused the trouble, and he cursed loudly, raising his gun and firing wildly into the air.
Seeing Xie Maoliang trapped by the gale whipped up by the giant eagle, Su Wan quickly groped her way to Bai Zhiyi, took out a painkiller from the pharmacy and injected it into Bai Zhiyi's arm, saying, "Miss Bai, bear with the pain, I'll take you away now."
Bai Zhiyi said weakly, "I deserve to die, but I really hate it... I can't save His Highness, and I can't avenge him."
Seeing that Bai Zhiyi's eyes were gradually becoming unfocused, a sign that she was about to die, Su Wan panicked and hurriedly went to the pharmacy to get some equipment for resuscitation.
If Bai Zhiyi dies, her life essence will dissipate. Zhang Ying said that she would only treat Wei Jingzhuo if she obtained all of his life essence. Bai Zhiyi's death means that Wei Jingzhuo will also die.
As her consciousness swept across the pharmacy, she saw the bottle of fiery red stimulant, the Type II drug she had obtained in the laboratory, modified by Jiang Yan.
A thought struck her, and she took out the vial.
Bai Zhiyi first lost both hands and was then shot by a defensive gun. No medicine could probably save Bai Zhiyi's life, but this stimulant could.
Bai Zhiyi can survive if she takes this stimulant, but the price is that she might become a White Walker.
But there was no time to hesitate.
She removed the protective sheath from the needle, stood the syringe upright, and gently pushed it to let a few drops of medicine come out. Then, she decisively inserted the syringe into Bai Zhiyi's neck and pushed the medicine in.
“Miss Bai, you must survive. Ah Jin is waiting for us to rescue her.”
Bai Zhiyi was no longer able to speak, her eyes were vacant, and if it weren't for the faint pulsation in her carotid artery, she would be almost indistinguishable from a dead person.
