As she spoke with great enthusiasm, Granny Cui said, "Your Majesty, our Great Jin has never had such a good time. The Western Rong in the north have stopped causing trouble, and Southern Chu has also made peace with us. It's all thanks to you."
Su Wan said, "Don't exaggerate like that, I didn't play a big role."
“Oh dear, why isn’t it big?” said Granny Cui. “Look at how respectful the Western Rong are to us now. Isn’t it because Your Majesty cured the King of the Western Rong? Besides, there was a flood in Southern Chu. People in the streets are saying that Your Majesty rode a divine eagle and flew in the sky. With a wave of your hand, you froze the entire Gui River.”
Su Wan burst out laughing: "Granny, you believe in these things too? The Gui River is flowing just fine."
It turns out that there were rumors circulating that she could summon heavenly soldiers and that her autographs were being sold everywhere. She personally clarified these rumors, and that's when Frozen Guijiang appeared.
A little embarrassed, Granny Cui changed the subject, saying, "Everyone's stories are getting more and more exaggerated... But back then, the moment this old servant saw Her Majesty, I knew that His Majesty's fortunes would turn around when he met Her Majesty. Sure enough, Her Majesty saved His Majesty. Master Huiming was right."
As she was reminiscing, Su Wan asked, "Who is Master Huiming?"
“The abbot of Tongchan Temple, Master Huiming,” said Granny Cui. “Back when His Majesty was exiled from the capital to Youzhou, we passed by Tongchan Temple. This old servant wanted to ask His Majesty what his future held, so I offered three hundred taels of incense money and asked the master to predict his fate. And it turned out that the master was right.”
Su Wan asked, "Is he really that amazing?"
Granny Cui said, "Anyway, everyone in the villages and towns around the temple says he is accurate in his predictions, but he usually doesn't do predictions for people; it only depends on his mood."
Su Wan pressed further, "Can he predict a person's life and death?"
“Yes, he even predicted that His Majesty could avert his death if he met the Empress. He’s truly amazing,” said Granny Cui with a cheerful smile. “His Majesty governs the country well and in an orderly manner. Now our Great Jin can be considered a peaceful and prosperous nation. Everyone has nothing else to say but hope that the Empress will give birth to a dragon son soon.”
Su Wan's expression suddenly changed, startling Granny Cui, who quickly got up from her chair and knelt down, saying, "This old servant misspoke."
“I will visit Master Huiming another day,” Su Wan said, rising to her feet. “Granny, you may leave now. I also need to return to my room to rest. Do not enter without being summoned.”
After Cui Mama withdrew, Su Wan returned to her bedroom and went to the table to pour herself a glass of cold water.
Then she took out a bottle of emergency contraceptive pills, poured out two pills and drank them.
As she put down the cup, a tear fell into it. She wiped her cheek with her sleeve, and another tear rolled down her cheek. She wiped again, and more tears streamed down her face.
She simply stopped wiping and walked to the open window, staring blankly at the flowering trees outside.
Her nose stung so badly, and she wanted to cry out loud, but she didn't dare, afraid that the palace maids outside would hear. If they heard, they would tell Wei Jingzhuo, so she could only cover her mouth with her hands.
“Sister,” a familiar female voice rang out from outside the window, “I’ve come to find you. Surprised?”
Chu Mingyao peeked out from behind the flowering tree and came to the window, asking in surprise, "Why are you crying?"
Su Wan was surprised and quickly turned her back to Chu Mingyao. After a pause, she turned back and hugged Chu Mingyao tightly through the window, resting her head on Chu Mingyao's shoulder and letting out a sob that she tried her best to suppress.
She was already extremely depressed, yet she forced a smile and pretended nothing was wrong. She was deceiving herself and others.
The taut string is about to snap.
Chu Mingyao gently patted Su Wan's trembling shoulders, comforting her, "Sister's here, sister's holding you. Oh my god, what's wrong with you?"
